Sega of Europe confirm that they have signed a deal that will allow them to become a Total Warrior...

Sega of Europe has today announced that they have signed a deal with Total War developers Creative Assembly to publish the team’s forthcoming console title, Spartan: Total Warrior.

The game, which is set for release on Xbox, PlayStation2 and GameCube in September 2005, switches the action away from the strategy PC franchise to a third-person action/adventure strategy game set in the battles of the Roman Empire.

Commenting on the move, Sega’s European Marketing Director, Matt Woodley said, “Creative Assembly has delivered outstanding games from day one and Spartan: Total Warrior is another quality title befitting the exceptional standards of the team.”

Fuck, man you nearly had me excited for a Rome: Total War port to the consoles. I was hoping the masses would find out about this glorious game.

Oh well, I have faith in Creative Assembly.

Cool. Could be really good.

And why does it seem that Sega of Europe annouces everything now? You'd think Japan would annouce all partnerships.

That'll be the day. I doubt we'll ever see anything similar to PC RTS games for a long time on a console. Just because you're extremely limited in what you can do in console RTS games.

I dont have permission to post a new topic, so I reply here.

Sega buys The Creative Assembly Ltd

[....]

Notice is hereby given that SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS INC. (the "Company") and SEGA CORPORTION, a subsidiary of the Company, at the meetings of their respective Boards of Directors held on March 8, 2005, resolved that SEGA EUROPE LTD., a company of Sega Sammy Group, should acquire all of the issued shares of The Creative Assembly Ltd. to make it its subsidiary, as described below:

Description 1. Reason for the acquisition of the shares: The markets of the consumer business, which Sega Sammy Group regards as one of its core businesses, have expanded rapidly in North America and Europe, while the Japanese market has seen sluggish growth. Hence, for our business development in the future, the North American and European markets have been growing in importance. Under these circumstances, Sega Sammy Group is promoting the concentration of its management resources on growth areas in its consumer business, relocation of its development resources for better productivity and unification of its development and marketing strategies. The Creative Assembly Ltd. has produced good results and has an established brand identity with the "Total War" PC series, whose titles have sold over a million throughout North America and Europe. By acquiring the shares of The Creative Assembly Ltd., Sega Sammy Group will be able to obtain competitive titles and a strong brand in the North American and European markets, in addition to expand product lines and increase sales volumes dramatically. Furthermore, we believe that we will be able to make good use of the development engines produced by The Creative Assembly Ltd. to expand future titles, as well as developing new ventures for next-generation platforms with the team.

The most prominent similarity to the Total War games is the idea of "many versus many" fighting. You control one main character, "The Spartan," in Dynasty Warriors-style massive battles where you run around attacking enemies in a third-person view, but according to Roxburgh, the scope of your team is key. "[Many versus many] means that battles consist of hundreds of troops on either side of the battle," he says. "Players will have to fight alongside their allied troops in these huge battles if they are to be successful. Our battles are also on a much bigger scale -- and don't rely on fogging to give the impression of numbers. Dynasty Warriors never has more than about 30 characters actually on screen at any time. We have hundreds of highly detailed, motion captured warriors on screen at any one time."

What a Shadow of Rome ripoff! :lol Looks very cool though :)

Edit: Oh Sega is involved. This will most likely suck :(

Sounds to me like a Koei -> Dynasty Warriors attempt from Creative Assembly. I'm hoping they succeed as much as Koei.

I'm of Spartan descent so this'll be good.

Greek (Spartan)-American

I hope this turns out better than the most recent media homages to Greece....Troy and....*erghh* Alexander.
