I think that there's more to those effects, maybe not VR but I believe it's definitely deliberate and not something Kojima added because it was cool.

I just don't want my dreams to be destroyed come gamescom.

But yes I do believe that with how vast this game actually is we WILL see a solid snake part to the game with Hayter, I very much expect a "kept you waiting" moment coming.

Hurry up Gamescom give me all your info......

Haha yeah same here.

Imagine this: A trailer starts we see some Big Boss stuff and in the end after the credits where everyone thinks the trailer is over we see a guy's back the camera looks up and we see he's wearing a bandana *crowd starts cheering* he turns around a little text pops up saying "Solid Snake - David Hayter" and he says his famous line "Kept you waiting, huh"? people would go INSANE. Trailer ends and David Hayter comes on stage ...LOL

For now it's just a wet dream but i really hope something like this happens. It would be one of the best gaming moments of all time, similar to the the Zelda: Twilight Princess announcement at E3 2004.

Wow, thanks i thought i was the only one. People called me crazy for saying this in the other thread.

Also this quote from the GI interview with Kojima:

"There is a specific way for the games to put things together"

I find this quote very interesting.

Edit: sorry dp

You're still crazy, you're all crazy. It's just a cool effect, there's enough going on plot wise without Kojima pulling the 'it was all a film/VR!' twist.

And Hayter won't be in the game.

Why should he put such an annoying effect in the game? just for shits and giggles?

Nah man, there is more to it.

Because he's making it cinematic as possible, hence the overabundance of lens flares, using Hollywood talent, reigning in Harry Gregson Williams again, it's all to make it feel more cinematic, nothing more.

There's more chance of the Chico is Quiet theory panning out than the idea everything is a simulation/film being viewed by someone.

In case you missed my perfectly reasonable explanation from the other thread.

Well let's say it's not VR but something else.

but those orange lines is not a lens flare effect.

and it looks like it only happens around electronic devices and other tech. Any explanation for that?

lens flare only happens with a light source, tell me where in those pics is a light source?

Kojima says it is.

and after much searching, here's the clip he meant.

That could mean nothing. He just got inspired by that music video but it doens't mean the effect is pointless in the game. Of course when someone ask he wouldn't reveal it yet, same with Hayter.

Just look at his face, just look at it. He's clearly hiding something.

Occam's Razor, baby: For any given set of explanations for an event occurring, it is most likely that the simplest one is the correct one.

The simplest one here is that they are game mechanics dressed up in a filmic style and visual flourishes to add to the verisimilitude of being in a film, something we all know Kojima aspires to.

Sorry but how is this effect a game mechanic?

I feel like opening a new Team E for this shit :lol

Those do seem to be pretty specific. Only being used when some kind of tech that is not real is displayed. Maybe its just to pinpoint a certain theme or callout of gadgets?

So what are we saying, that the helicopter computers and electric torture thing aren't real? That they couldn't be from that era?

The iDroid I can understand, but the helicopter equipment and electric charger seem perfectly fitting for that time period.

Maybe there is something more specific in that helicopter scene?

Either way.. i doubt that it is some sort of important plot item. Maybe its just a stylized overlay. Like the flares on the Knifes.

I have absolutely no idea, i just think there is more to this effect than just a simple lens flare effect, that is all.

I remember watching AKB48 music videos because I found them funny. Imagine my surprise when I found out Kojima is a fan and even used an effect in V from a video of theirs. What the f.

Is Team B implying Sutherland will voice Solid Snake too? :lol

I've not been keeping up with Metal Gear lore because I don't understand what you guys are talking about. I played all main MGS games.

How can Big Boss be Gray Fox? What the fuck guys wats going on.

The theory goes that Big Boss is still in a coma or is recuperating from his coma in MGSV, so Grey Fox, disguised as Big Boss, is pretending to be him.

This theory is mostly based on the fact that Big Boss's eye in one of the Afghan trailers look greenish rather than bluish.

Big Boss is actually Chico

Ok now I'm completely lost. Lol don't worry I'm reading Gray Fox's bio now for some clues.

Got ya interesting.

Bit of a tangent here but I don't get why Gray Fox is supposed to be the 'Perfect Soldier' and gets given the 'Fox' codename, the highest commemoration within Foxhound, yet he gets beaten one-on-one with Snake, and loses in a fist fight with him.

If Jaeger is a 'Fox' rank, why is Snake below him?

Isn't Snake supposed to have gotten better during the mission? Like Big Boss eventually gets good enough to beat The Boss.

Because Snake was a rookie back when he was given his codename and Fox was his superior. Also Snake retired after defeating Fox, and he kept his codename as just a memento, as he was no longer part of FOXHOUND.
