Spectre's opening theme/intro is so terrible. Falsetto, tentacle porn, Cthulhu?

I think the song is mostly ok, but the falsetto sucks, the fact that it was picked over Radiohead'a track is terrible (imo Lana's submission was pretty dull), and that it won an Oscar is fucking insane. Especially when they had Lady Gaga perform her song just two minutes before, Jesus.

I don't disapprove of what they were going for with the opening but the use of the octopus and the cuts to the organization seemed like a form of lazy symbolism. It interjects this erotic interplay with Bond being naked in golden flames being touched by women- combined with the Sam Smiths visuals I get more the sense that the opening fits a romantic drama or a romance thriller.

Bond is mechanical, psychologically closed off and he uses women like fleshlights. The other films cannot get to where Casino Royale is, because all the meat is on Casino Royale. It's the quitessential Bond film. It might be the best of all of them if we remove the classic factor from the old ones.

In Quantum of Solace you have a mediocre movie that took too much from Bourne, but they tried to do something interesting, and its visually inspired (certain scenes) and it was interesting to go without a love interest. I also liked how it tried to put Climate change into the mix. But the only stand out moment in the entire film is when his friend lies dead in the trashcan and he takes his wallet not giving a shit about him. It's that sort of cynicism that is befitting of the double 00 lifestyle. His lavish flamboyant lifestyle goes hand in hand with a disregard for emotional involvement. Don't get to close to Bond. He is cursed to walk alone.

Skyfall, I loved. Visually it's a masterpiece. It's a slower paced film, but I liked what they did with it.

I still think Spectre is better than Quantum.

I'd rate them:

1. Casino Royale < Incredible
2. Skyfall < Great
3. Spectre < Average
4. Quantum < Disappointing

Somebody explain this to me (spoilers)

Remember the train they were on? Were they fought the "Muscle" and killed him? What has his plan again? Cause in the very next scene they just sit around and wait for the bad guy to pick them up. What was Bond's plan? Hope that Walz will send a driver and then hopefully mange to escape? Why even send the muscle after them if you are just planning to pick them up with a friendly driver later on?

No one can explain it because the movie is fucking awful.

Man this thread reminded of the turd that was Spectre. A perfect example of that even the shittiest movie out there will sell buttloads when the ball is rolling.

I enjoyed the film, but the song in the opening credits really grated on me. Just don't like the guys voice when he is doing the falsetto.

The whole movie sucked.

Lazy movie, terrible payoff for the quantum story, and wasted Waltz who I wanted to be a Bond villain for years.

The intro song is fucking awful and it baffles me how it even won an Oscar.

Really hated the song, I ended up muting my audio until it was over because of how bad it was.

Robert DeLong's Long Way Down is so James Bond theme I thought it was Spectre's theme song for the longest time.
You Know My Name is the GOAT theme + video.
Adele's Skyfall is GOAT bond theme from Craig era. You know my name is a close second. Everything else is highly forgettable.

Has Sam Smith even done anything since Spectre? Feels like I haven't heard from him in 3 years.

Not really.

This thread is incredible, I didn't know that so many people thought Spectre was a turd. That's GAF hyperbole in a fine example, I guess.

For Your Eyes Only is probably my favourite Moore film, very underrated imo.

As far as two good movies, I don't know. I think Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball are all good/great. Lazenby of course only got the one good film. Brosnan, well, one was good, one was sorta-good (Tomorrow Never Dies), one was bad, one was atrocious. Craig got two good ones though, I'll give you that.

My biggest issue with Moore is that I dislike Live and Let Die, and after Golden Gun, it became clear that Moore was way too old and, this is the important bit, way too out of shape and quite frankly fat and portly to be Bond as a suave, lady killer type. He came off as a creepy grandpa.

I just really don't like him, tbh.

Tomorrow Never Dies is a pretty good movie, not as good as the good Craig ones or Connery ones or Goldeneye, but it's a pretty good movie until the last 1/3rd.

It seems like everyone hated it. For me, personally, it was pretty great, but then again there are only two Bond films I really like at all (the other being Casino Royale) so I guess I have opposite tastes to the James Bond fandom.

Have you seen On Her Majesty's Secret Service? That's the closest to CR tonally and a damn good movie.

I mean it's been critically, commercially and pretty well regarded as a pretty mediocre movie, average ratings are sitting around 5.5-6/10

So, yeah it's pretty turdly. It's not just a GAF thing like people try and make EVERYTHING that disagrees with their personal perception of said thing.

"You Know My Name" is garbage, Chris Cornell's voice is awful.

THESE are bond themes:

Live and Let Die is a great song but I always felt it didn't fit with Bond. Same for Nobody Does It Better.

Man With The Golden Gun and Goldfinger are a bit too cheesy for me.

But as you can see above, all the actual title sequences are cheesy as fuck. It's a campy franchise, always has been.

I adore the Radiihead song and I think it would have fit well despite being pretty somber. Fuck Sam Smith.

Check out this unused song for You Only Live Twice by Lorraine Chandler:

Nowhere near as good but a fun tune, all the same.

Here is Straw's unused theme for The World Is Not Enough:

I've never heard of STRAW but the lead singer is ripping off The Bends-era Thom Yorke pretty hard IMO.

Cthulhu ftaghn, hail Hydra.

To be fair, none of the Craig Bond songs have been any good. That falsetto, though. There's a bunch of male singers out there that can manage a truly female-sounding falsetto. They should have went with someone else for the theme. The song title call sticks with me, though. That at least was solidly done.

Visually the opening was all over the place, no pun intended.

I thought the song was appropriately melancholic considering the story but the imagery is well...uh...reminds me of some hentai anime indeed.

Also, Hail Hydra!
