Speedrunning Thread - RESETRESETRESET

I haven't posted in here as much as I would like to buuut I did start speedrunning something. It's not a game most people take seriously with regards to speedrunning since it is a heavily RNG-based game but I've been having fun running it so... here's the link to my latest PB for Pokemon Stadium Gym Leader Castle Round 1, a 1:47:03. I submitted the run to speedrun.com and turns out I'm 9th on the game's leaderboard now. Feels pretty good but yeah it's not a super hard game, just really RNG.

I will continue to run it and stuff, at least aiming to get a 1:45 right now in the long-term. If you want to tune in the future for runs of that and Pokemon Stadium 2 GLC R1 (currently working on this a little bit now as well), my twitch is: https://www.twitch.tv/revven91

Also planning on doing Mario Party speedruns because why not and they're funny; Fuzzyness has been running them and the RNG in those games can be really hilarious even if it's to the detriment of the speedrun. Again, not super serious but doing it for fun.

If there's one game I really want to run that wouldn't be a meme game, I guess it would be Snowboard Kids either 1 or 2 (leaning on 2). But I'm so iffy on it because running the story mode includes the bosses and those bosses would be the least fun thing about the run... and then there's a specific amount of Gold (money) you need to get to purchase the best board as early as possible if you don't do NG+. So much to think about...

Any of you following the Super Metroid Randomizer tournament? I'm not really into speedrunning or anything like that aside from the occasional GDQ event, but I'm fascinated by this tournament. I cant get enough of it.

A few things have been going on with Speedrunning lately, the n64 Zelda games now have an frame perfect input to equip greyed out items as child or adult like, so stuff like hammer in child and boomerang in adult so it's going to mix up some speedrun routes a bit.

Question about game versions: if a game patches a weapon/feature that formerly allowed runs to be shorter due to being OP or whatever how is that reflected on speedrunning sites? Are all runs regardless of version listed for WRs—is there a requirement in such cases to list the version of the game used?

It depends on the game. For example, Sonic Mania has separate leaderboards for the newest version and previous versions. Some games will have the information in their rules. For example, the rules for Another Metroid 2 Remake list that runs must be done on the latest version (v1.1).
These will generally be discussed by runners as the game evolves and new patches are brought out, and how they should be displayed, either as separate boards per version or as just one.
