Speevy's Dilemma: $75 to spend, no idea what to get.

Here are my options. I'm absolutely done with older bargain games. Nothing but recently released and upcoming games. (mainly because I've played all the older bargain games)

1) Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat

I finally have the money to buy this, but it pretty much wipes out any other purchas I would make. I really want to play it through but the cost combined with the fact that I don't own any other games right now hurts.

2) Jade Empire

Next month. AAA RPG, guaranteed to last a little while. Should I wait?

3) Doom 3 Xbox - Looks fun enough. But it also presents a wait.

4) Psychonauts - A game I've been interested in for years, but again, the wait. I'm a very impatient person.

5) Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. Several people I know are raving about this game.

6) Baten Kaitos/Tales of Symphonia - I still haven't played either of these, but since they're still full price I can't very well get them as a set. So I guess I'd choose one over the other.

7) Brothers in Arms - I usually don't care much for military shooters, but I've heard great things about this game.

I really don't know what to do. I'm really tired of jumping from one trade-in to the next, but nothing has absolutely captivated me lately. The best game I've played this year (aside from Resident Evil 4, which I beat 3 times and unlocked everything before trading it in) is WE8. Loved that, but I'm not a big enough soccer fan to keep playing season after season.

Anyway, can I get some good advice? Remember: My spending limit is $75.

You want it get Jungle Beat, otherwise Psychonauts and a bargain game, which you said you didn't want. And with Jungle Beat there's no waiting, you might as well get your best looked to purchase.

You've been stomping up and down like a petulant child over above-average DK:JB reveiews.....and you haven't even played the game? =P

At any rate, you can't buy more than 1 of these games with only $75 bucks, so I'm not sure why the spending limit is even an issue ;) Just pick whichever you are most interested in, and rent the others. Most likely won't be able to rent DK:JB so maybe that is the best choice (though by all accounts it's the one most easily beaten in a rental).

What I would do...

1) Buy Jade Empire and play the hell out of it.
2) Rent Doom 3 and play through co-op and singleplayer then return it
3) Next rent Oddworld and beat it and return it
4) Rent Psychonauts and beat/return it
5) Sell Jade Empire not that you're done with it and use money plus extra money to purchase Donkey Konga + Drums (used if possible).
6) Use any extra on remaining games or rentals.

Oddworld is great and if you like that style (your avatar says you might) you'll probably love it. Then again maybe not ;) Jade Empire might be the sure thing.

I'd go with Stranger's Wrath, though considering how it sold I wouldn't be surprised if it drops price soon.

Or, you can put half of it toward a PS2, and by the time you pay it off you'll have so many choices that your penis will explode in a glorious display of joyous merriment.

1) Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat - YES

2) Jade Empire - MAYBE

3) Doom 3 Xbox - NOPE, wait for drop in price

4) Psychonauts - I have a bad feeling on this one

5) Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.- Its over hyped.

6) Baten Kaitos/Tales of Symphonia - BK is boring I hear but is linked "here"

7) Brothers in Arms - Dunno

I thought about Phantom Dust. But isn't it a very Live-oriented game? Is it worth it without Live?

I think it's quite decent, I'm thinking of importing it since it doesn't seem like it's going to be released around here. I'm quite curious about the soundtrack also, since I've heard it was good and I love IDM. The live portion should have an above average community too, I hope.

What? It's one of the best FPS ever! At least on the PC
I'm not going to get into another lame argument about whether or not a totally conventional FPS with next-to-no level/objective variety is any good. Let's just say that it's not Speevy's style.

Speevy, Ive no idea what your PC's power is like.. but Psychonauts is only 30 bucks for the PC.. so if you save up another 10 bucks you could get one full priced game + Psychonauts PC.

I'd probably go with DK:JB as the other game since you seem to like quirky stuff.

I've never played a single PC game on this machine, and it's 5 years old. So...I doubt it. :p

It comes with a free deck of cards, need I say more?

acording to EB's website.. AND you get the deck of cards.

gamestop has it for 30 as well, and you get a free tie die t-shirt.. which isnt bad considering a shirt goes for 20 bucks normally.

TRU has a free $10 gift card when you spend more than $50. DKJB is $54.99 this week, so...

$75.00 - $54.99 (+ tax) + $10 GC = a little more money for bargain games.

Also, there are several claims that Blockbuster/Game Rush is selling DKJB with Bongos for $39.99 (the game-alone price). YMMV though.

I should have been more clear. This is Gamestop credit.

I tried to go to FYE, but they wouldn't take 4 of my 6 games because they were used games from Gamestop. (I guess I should have peeled the sticker off) Well anyway, they weren't giving me such a great deal anyway.

That's a hell of a deal. But as I said, this isn't cash. I'd feel guilty about buying any of these games with actual money.

I don't have a PS2.

That's a damn shame.

Anyway, I got Jungle Beat and it is hella fun, so I'm going to vote for that ONLY because I haven't played Jade Empire or Brother in Arms, and I thought Doom 3 was painfully mediocre (outside of visuals) on PC.

Oh, you have Oddworld Stranger's Wrath on that list... that's a good game. The first half is way better than the second half, though. I still give it to Jungle Beat by a hair.

I hate Tales of Symphonia, so not going to reccomend that.

And haven't played Baten Kaitos, but I will get around to it!

Tell them to fuck off and die (or just peel the sticker off and go back again :P). A used game is a used game. It's yours now, so where it came from doesn't matter. Bastards.

I ended up getting DK Jungle Beat $55 and Sphinx $15 for a total of $70, and got $5 back. They didn't have Phantom Dust, else I would have bought that. But I've been meaning to try Sphinx for a long time, so I guess I made the right choice.

maybe you should preorder this

No Splinter Cell lovin?

I wouldn't get anything out of that list personally. Well, maybe Jade Empire - but after the demo I got kinda scared.

Since Splinter Cell 3 is reportedly outstanding, I would have gotten that. There's just one problem. I hate stealth games. Games in this genre make me nervous. Metal Gear Solid. Splinter Cell. Thief. Hated that stuff. Sneaking around is not my thing. I dread parts of other action games which feature this element, which is what killed Beyond Good and Evil for me. :(
