Sphinx

I just ordered this one because I felt like ordering a cheap game. (checked the reviews of course)

Any thoughts on the game?

minus that save glitch which forced me to start over the game is freaking awesome highly under appreciated game

beautiful graphics too

I really hope Eurocom sticks to their word when they said even if Sphinx sold like ass they had the money to do another one and that it was a matter of doing something they wanted to do and they do another one

I want a Sphinx 2 damn it

Sphinx is a pretty good Zelda clone, yes. The final battle and closing are just of course, lacking.

It does pick up momentum over the course of the game.

Sphynx is very good. Don't be fooled by the first level, it gets way better afterwards.

I agree, the first 15 minutes don't do the game any service. After that though it gets excellent and well worth finishing. I actually found that it has a really great pace and hook that makes you want to keep coming back to it until its done.

If I wasnt swamped with games and WoW love, I'd play this again. And by again, the first time through I got fucked over by the save glitch and didnt bother playing again. Glad I got it for ass cheap.

Here's an excerpt from GameFAQs:

Q. During the second trip to the Castle of Uruk, I saved at a Save
Statue next to an open door after viewing a cutscene with Set, Menes,
and Horus. I then turned off the console, and when I came back, the
door was closed and now I can't progress in the game. What happened?
Am I stuck?

A. Yes, you are stuck. You saved next to the infamous "glitch door". It
is a known bug in the game. Saving at that save point and turning off
the console will result in the door being locked and you can not go any
further in the game. You have no choice but to start all over again.
It sucks, I know.

That's about it!

I bought it in december, haven't finished it yet (RE4, Paper Mario, college)... cool game so far... BTW it's true, the first levels are not so good/fun...

Right now I'm in a port city (just got the shield) but the loading times are killing me... >_<

The Mummy levels have some of the coolest environmental puzzles ever.

I loved those, really good. I went into Sphinx expecting an average adventure game but I came out pleasantly surprised. The game has some smart and unique puzzles, isn't very frustrating and the mummy stages were great. I liked the fact that the puzzles *didn't* require you to go here with sphinx using his unique powers, the go here with mummy with his powers and pull the switches at the same time. Both characters were completely seperate. I kinda liked this game more than wind waker because it didn't feel as tedious or rushed. That's just my opinion (For the Record, Ocarina of Time is my second favorite game of all time, right after Prime and just ahead of Resident Evi l4).

I need to go back and try the game again... the first "area" bored me to tears. As I had only paid $10 for the game, I didn't mind shelving it when more readily entertaining games appeared.

I agree with pretty much everyone else here. I got the game several months back at Toys R Us for like 8 bucks and it turned out to be much better than expected. It supports 720p on Xbox, too, which looks fantastic. Best bargain game I ever got I think. :)

must be a different version i got. although it seems ok unles it does a serious 180 in the next chapter or so then it is nothing but ok with some clunky controls.

Sphinx probably costs less than the tax on psychonauts, get both.

P.S. She's latina, amigo.

I'm considering buying this for GC - anyone else have an opinion?

There may come a time in your life where you're standing in a game shop holding two cheap, nondescript GC games. One will be this, the other will be I-Ninja.

Buy I-Ninja.

I'll probably end up getting both next time I see a sale, along with Ty, but I can't find the first for under $20.

You say you can't find the first TY for under $20? You're not looking hard enough...

(Oh, unless you were talking about I-Ninja, in which case never mind) :)

How do the different versions stack up?

Not too many solid adventure games out there, IMHO.

I might just pick it up. According to Gamespot, all 3 versions are fantastic. They give the nod to the GCN version for superior controls, crisp near-constant 60fps graphics (Xbox version slightly crisper), and slightly superior special effects.

I have the demo of the PS2 version, and my brief exposure to it pretty much shut me off to the game. But I might just consider it, if I can find it cheap enough.

Seriously, I can't find it. I'll need to look more, but Gamestop had it for $18 used and it's sold out at Toys R Us. Tomorrow I'll try EBGames and GameCrazy.

I got rid of Sphinx. Not much wrong with it, but much too generic. No character whatsoever.

you sir are officially insane :lol

I don't know how you can say the Mummy was generic and had no character

Gamecube version is the one to go with, the game started life on that system (if i remember right it was originally going to be an exclusive for it) and then got ported over to the other ones mid development, so some of the effects and other things run better and look better on the cube

Eurocom are so underrated, If they had more funding I imagine they could make some AAA calibur games.

Underated? Have you sat down and seen the injustice they did to Buffy Chaos Bleeds? This development house ruined a potentialy great sequel. I really don't feel inspired to open up Sphynx right now.

Good point.

Heh,hey I'm just being totally stubborn is all. Yeah I have an axe to grind against them with the turd they pumped out with Buffy. Alot of you guys really seem to like Sphnx though,so I'll probably get around to playing it sometime. I payed 6 dollars for it new,so its worth the risk.

I've been meaning to give this a go...

So, the 720p note on the box is actually incorrect? Sega did this with Sonic Heroes on XBOX as well. Don't f*cking lie about 720p support, publishers...

I was never quite sure, is Sphinx more linear platformer/action or more nonlinear adventure? Is it like Zelda in that you can go all over a big world, do sidequests and that sort of thing?
