Kendrick Lamar's "Swimming Pools (Drank)" is more real, more personal, and more powerful than anything Macklemore has ever done. And it's subversive as hell, because it's a fucking JAM, not some self-conscious, self-important verse over a protest song.

Same Love is a terrible song. Swimming Pools is a great song. And yes, there's almost definitely a racial (not necessarily racist) component to how people are defining "real issues."

I personally didn't like the performance, but I really dislike a lot of modern music in general, and I think that applies for a lot of people. They have some really excellent songs in GTA, especially in hip-hop, and they should have done them.

well, that's fine; you can do the old dude yelling at clouds thing if you're so inclined - and yes, you've illustrated that you're willing to do it with other genres, so there's that. but much like how voting conservative by no means automatically make you a racist, there's some troubling venn diagram overlap there, if you're so bothered by it.

This is a music genre that frequently refers to black people as "N*****", gay people as "F*****" and women as "B****". Is it any wonder that they are not popular to at least several group of people by doing this? On top of that, some people are just not fond of the kind of rhythm that rap/hip hop songs tend to produce. But no, you just have to assume that people are racist because they don't like the kind of music genre you like.
