You could do some really fun stuff with the stages and semi-teleportation with ink, but it would be too much work to implement. Maybe they would just rotate through an arsenal of different ink-based weapons, and painting their enemies would do exactly as you suggest. I bet they could figure something out though

Don't get me started.

Rolls are squid dives.

Neutral and Tilt ground attacks are with the giant brush. Dash attack is with the paint roller. Smashes can be short range squid shotguns or something.

Air attacks can be variations on the above.

Grab is a new type of tether. They shoot out a short stream of ink in front of them, if you're in the range they quickly squid to you for the grab.

Neutral Special: Ink Gun. Fires whatever ink you have.

Side Special: Ink Grenade. Does damage and covers victims in ink.

Down Special: Change Ammo. Rotates between different colored Ink. One that deals damage over time like a Pikmin would. One that makes opponents easier to launch. One that just does knockback. One that slows down the opponent.

Up Special: Ink Pack. You fire ink behind you as you jet in one of 8 directions. Enemies behind you are covered in whatever ink you're using.

Final Smash: Inkling Party. You create a huge puddle of ink below you. Anyone caught in it is bombarded by a large group of inklings that swim in and out of it.

Long range sniping with a field of paint separating you from your foe is one of the possibilities I really hope to see come out of this style of shooter. I can only think of 3 special moves but their up B would turn them into squid form and launch them in whatever direction you input (like when pressing on the gamepad), their neutral B would be firing ink, and their down B would change them to squid form and merge with the ground for about 2-3 seconds during which you can have them move around (kind of like Greninja except quicker, you can change directions, and you don't end the move with an attack)

yeah there's a lot of room for unique move sets. I'd just like them to be quick and mobile. I figure most of their charged smash attacks would use a weapon from the game. down smash could roll the paint roller quickly to the front and back, forward smash could shoot that ink tornado thing forward, up smash could be another weapon. forward special could throw a grenade. I don't know if they can move their two big tentacles in human form but their grab should use those haha.
