Nintendo is really betting on it, putting it together with their biggest multiplayer games.

That's a bit much I think.
Smash will get an actual tournament while Splatoon will get it's first playable exhibition and that "Real Splatoon"
Still hope Splatoon will be a big success of course.

Happy new year, guys!

The creator twitted about Splatoon when it was 1st announced.
Thanks for responding!

Happy Splatoon year!

Have the devs talked about how they plan to keep this from becoming repetitive? I remember playing something similar to this game on Wii and it get old very fast (you would paint some buildings, friends would repaint them, then you repaint them, etc etc)

Happy New Year! We look forward to working with you this year, too.

That's the formal greetings, but we've also received this greeting photo from our Investigation Staff. Seems like Inklings also celebrate the New Year, too!

Hold up... do Inklings even have the concept of a New Year, though?

Google-sensei helped out on that last sentence.

God I hope this doesn't sound weird, but when I play Destiny MP, specifically the 3v3 skirmish team, revive and defend mode, it makes me want Splatoon so bad right now.

Seeing how much fun having a small organized team that recognizes objectives and works toward the same goals together has been, I can't wait for the 4v4 cover the map, defend your zones, play as a team game that Splatoon will be. Like honestly if it is just as fun in MP as that skirmish mode I am done, I don't need anything else.

Pretty good work, but in this context 本年もよろしくお願いします。 is in the sense of, "We look forward to your continued support this year". Everything else looks right to me, even the last sentence.
I just realized that "2015" is painted on the actual stage grounds and not just written on the screen.
I wonder how long it will take after the game come out for somebody to upload a picture of them painting a penis...

Thanks! I'm glad someone is here to check my work

Man I just love everything about how Nintendo is handling this new property. Everything just seems so in character for them (and Splatoon as a franchise) despite a solid character not even being defined yet.

Well the girl inkling seems to be taking up the mantle of franchise mascot. I hope she is given a name though.

Is this the first time that we have seen an Inkling using red paint? I don't think that was in the earlier trailers.
Now we'll be able to literally paint the town red.

This isn't deBlob. Fast pace and platforming and various weapons and team-based gameplay is why. Have you never played a territory control game? TF2? Anything? This doesn't get repetitive.

It can get repetitive, it just depends on the game design behind it. Is there sufficient strategy behind the type of territory control that exists, as there is in TF2's classes? Are the map designed in a way that encourages a multiplicity of clever strategies? Territory control games get repetitive extremely fast with poor map design. It's not a simple answer.

Also since Splatoon's gameplay is quite dominated by this ink approach, what other types of game modes will exist?

If there's one thing Nintendo tends to understand in their hardcore game products it's great game design, so I'm sure they are designing a game that will not be easy to become repetitive.

I've been paying attention to these posts from the US tumblr and the Japanese twitter, and it reaffirms my love for this new game.

The amount of detail given to the squid aesthetics is something I really love. I mean, they're really going all the way with this squid and octopus motif, and I absolutely love it.

All these twitter posts just seem to be scratching the surface in terms of the available costume options, as well. I mean, we've seen a pretty drastic increase in the amount of clothing options, and ink colors since the initial reveal. The only thing I'd like to see more of are hairstyles. I want to see squid mohawks, squid ponytails, squid pompadours, just more hairstyles. Hopefully that'll be forthcoming. Until then, I'm still loving everything I'm seeing from Splatoon.

Happy Splatoon year!

New tweet:

Inking into 2015. Happy new year Splatoon style. Nicely done.
Also nice to see a translation already.
Seems inkling do have a concept of New Year.

The squid girl creator Masahiro Anbe . Love the fact he made Splatoon fanart.
I wonder how he would draw an Octogirl.

...You changed your avatar. That is seriously fucking with me.

Miyamoto's appearance with Smosh had some Splatoon.
Quotes:

"Have a team that gathered a lot of the younger members of the development team in one team that works on Splatoon"

"They are putting so much into it. Doing way more than I thought they were going to.
I'm almost telling them "you gotta hold back""

"Of course. It's a game that you'll be able to play on the internet for online battles. But of course, like all Nintendo games. It's a game that feels really good to... Just the play control and how it feels to move through the game. Feels really nice."

Another MP arena:

一見、何の変哲もない路地裏だが、バトル好きの若者に人気のスポットらしい。狭い通路を利用した、激しい攻防が繰り広げられるそうだ。
それにしても、どこかで見たような風景だ。

Seems to be a familiar place.

I tried TF2 and got tired of it very fast... sucks to hear that's what they're doing here, I like the art

Here's a photo we received from our investigation staff.

It's apparently an ordinary back-alley, but it seems to be a popular spot for battle-loving young Squids. This narrow passage is apparently used to open up some intense offence/defence.

Nonetheless, you can see this kind of scenery anywhere.

"that's what they're doing here." They're not copying TF2's exact design and gameplay, that should be obvious. TF2 is an example for a territory control game (which also has other map styles). The sheer fact that you're controlling territory by painting the entire map around you is already a gigantic difference to capturing fixed points and trying to keep the other team from recapturing it. I don't see how you could be worried about it becoming boring once you add to that the crazy platforming/ink mechanics and special weapon things.

I had $30 in bestbuy credits to use before the end of January so I preordered this. I hope this game turns out well.

The Splatoon US Tumblr has a translation for the last image:

This just in! One of our senior research assistants just faxed over a fascinating new image. At first glance, this looks like a typical back alley, but word on the street is that it’s a favorite battleground for these crazy squids. Apparently it’s a popular place to hone one’s skills in one-on-one duels. If fact, it looks familiar for some reason…
