It will take some getting used to so with an hour demo it was best just to use what I was familiar with. That was just me though. I think I'll give them more of a shot once the game is out and I'm not on a timer.

I used them. They felt really good for aiming, but I wasn't used to them, so my field of vision got fucked up every time I turned a corner or forgot I was using them and let my pad drift way down.

I mean, aiming explicitly isn't that bad, and using the splat charger with gyro aim seems like a good combo. But the CAMERA, man. The camera goes wonky as hell, and it gets uncomfortable to play tilting in ways you expect the camera to move and whatnot.

I used gyro for two matches and had enough, went to analog controls.
Hmm, interesting. Yeah, it's a shame you don't get too much time to get used to it, curious to try it for myself.

Only the ground counts toward your percentage. Otherwise the top down map perspective wouldn't work.

So I can't find where I can send feedback to Nintendo. Is there a website? I need to be able to change weapons and settings without dropping out of the match making.
You'll be able to in the full game. This demo is designed for speed so they removed the normal lobby and just try to throw you into as many games as they can.

So who's waking up/staying up till 4am (or any other insane time for your region) in order to play again? I know I am :P
Hopefully. I'm going to try and get some sleep and I'm praying I wake up.

Reading through some of the earlier comments...is it safe to say most people didn't use gyro controls? I assumed they'd be the better option, but seems like a lot of you hated them.
They're weird and takes a while to understand and even longer to get the hang of. Hopefully more people give then a chance once the games out as they really are superior to twin stick.

My only complaint about the game is that everyone looked the same. I'm guessing the plethora of clothing options we saw in the plaza in the direct will fix that, but having a few hair style options would be nice too.

This should definitely change once people start running around with gas masks and football helmets.

i wish you could adjust options without having to log in. i played with default because i didn't want to waste time there in the 1 hour window and had to learn the default controls.

I hated them at first, so I went to the nornal controls. The sensitivity with the stick was wonky and I didn't realize it resets to motion if you switch weapons. In the end, the motion controls grew on me and made it much, much easier to aim. My Splatter/Splattered went through the roof when I got it down.

I used the Splattershot almost exclusively. Tried with the sniper rifle and it wasn't my thing. It's good that it can one shot with a full charge, but with everyone just starting out you really need to focus far more on being well rounded than specialized. Unless you're just that damn good with the sniper and capture a high point, I see it being useless for the most part until the community improves as a whole.

For those that have played the demo: is it possible to superjump to another player anywhere on the map, or is that just from the starting position?

Seems odd when not using something similar to a Wiimote. Gyro controls work for me in certain circumstances, but as a third person shooter for aiming...not so much.

Anywhere and everywhere. To counter it, enemies can see your drop beacon before you plop down.

I feel like in the long run I'll probably go gyro, but I may use twin sticks for most of tomorrow just to get into things quicker.

I'm really excited to see this community grow. A lot of people have called the sniper useless, but I think things have probably been balanced with the long term in mind. It always seemed like it would be a more expert weapon, especially with the king-of-the-hill modes.

As someone with ridiculously minimal experience with shooters, I was HOOKED. This is amazing, so much sheer FUN was had, laughed several times and found myself cursing when splatted, all in good fun. Definitely gonna buy. (Now, if they gave those Smash Bros Mii outfits in the eShop too...)

Say, will the retail game have offline multiplayer? Specifically Turf War?

Yeah, until I can really give it some time I won't say it's good or bad. I'm definitely not against gyro aiming. I really liked it on Uncharted and Gravity Rush on the Vita and RE: Revelations on the 3DS, so I'm not going to give up on it too quickly.

So far, I think its just Battle Dojo aka 1 v 1 score attack style mode?

Definitely. Its a great support/slayer weapon and better on some maps than others. Not every weapon needs to be balanced for regular pub matches either.

No, as far as I know there's no local co-op like in MK8, just a battle mode.
But yeah, I'm no a shooter player so that game was a nice suprise for me too.

Edit : beaten.

I thought that was the point of a beta.

So you know what settings the game will allow?

It isnt a beta but a stress test, to work out all the kinks with the servers so the experience will be smooth when trying to get in a game at launch.
However I wouldnt be surprised if nintendo is scouring gaming forums looking at the things people are praising and complaining about, afterall nintendo is planning the long game with this game and will be doing things like updates and balance patches(maybe) to ensure it has a long life.

Had so much fun during the 1 hour demo. Good thing traditional controls will be available during the full game... Moving the gamepad for the camera gets a little hectic when trying to aim at an opponent.

Glad to know a lot of people were trying out the demo as every lobby was getting full in an instant!

you can change them in the demo as well while you're picking your weapon

So my little brother (7) had a blast playing it and the gyro helped a lot as he struggles to use the right stick and zr at the same time while holding the gamepad with his small hands. The only issue is I am going to be sharing a lot but the short matches make sharing a lot easier.

I wonder how many people, like me, were trying to use the gyro more than you're supposed to. The gyro is for vertical and precise aiming. It took me a while to start using the right stick semi properly.

I think I'm getting sucked back in. Can't wait to play again so I'm staying up all night.

I'm super jealous of you folks that were and will be able to play this demo. Work is keeping me away from the testfires.

I'm glad to see a very large wave of positivity, though! I'm glad you folks are loving this, and I can't wait to join the fray!

Yeah, it took me a while to adjust my usage of gyro and the stick. In the end, I found myself gyroing for the floor and all enemy encounters whilst readjusting after I killed them with the right stick.

guess I'll try to get some sleep before the next one

Cant wait to try this out at 1 pm. Was not going to wake up at 5 am for this. Loving all the positive impressions, especially about the netcode. It holding up during a stresstest is good news.

I really couldn't use gyro controls. Then again I play all my FPS games with sticks soooo yeah obviously the non motion is the way to go for me.

The sensitivity is fine if you lower it otherwise it's extremely loose without motion controls.

I played it for about 45 minutes of the full of hour. It was pretty cool. Here's my pro's and cons:

+I love the look of the game. The color pairings for each team look really nice together. The game runs very smooth and just looks nicer than pretty much any other shooter I've played in the last decade, at least.
+The loading is extremely fast, in typical Nintendo fashion. I wish the competition would ape this from Nintendo.
+The music is still great. I hope there's more tracks in the final game though.
+The game runs very well, without any real issue.
+The mini game while you wait is a nice touch.

-Four classes hurts when the game really only has 4 primary weapons.
-I HATE that I cannot change my class or adjust my control settings after I die (or even after a match). I hope that this is just because I'm playing a demo and not the full game.
-The controls need time to get used to. I keep bouncing back and forth between motion controls and analogue. Both are kind of iffy for me at the moment.

Next hour i'm gonna be a squidgirl! The boy design has really grown on me, but there were a lot of boys and not enough girls. ): I guess players mostly choose their own gender. Oh well, I'm gonna be so cute!

There are no classes by the way and there are a lot more different weapons and perks to add (and slots to add) to your gear.

How hard is this game for a person that doesn't play shooters of any kind? :s

It's really userfriendly and you don't have to feel frustrated because the goal is to splatter as much as you can and not killing people. You can evade easely attacks if you don't forget to go into squid mode (thing i tend to forget lol).

This morning (EU) there were a lot of adults players, you can tell because they started to camp at our base to kill us at respawn.
They lost in the end because they didn't paint enough territory. I'm just giving an example, that even it's a shooter, killing people isn't the primory goal.

That's not just adult behavior.

I started with gyro controls, didn't like them. Switched to "normal" controls, hated the acceleration even more. Went back to gyro, and it was like something switched in my brain where suddenly I "got it". When the full game comes out, I'll be sticking with gyro controls, and I wouldn't be surprised if that proves the superior way to play

It's 4 AM Eastern. Feel weird for non-related reasons. I think if I'm awake in 2 hours I may eat a muffin and stay up to play again.

I love it but I have no need to play anymore since I got what I needed from the demo. At the same time it's so close...

Will probably sleep.

Thanks. I'll try it out in the next slot.

Something that might go well is the nerf armor. Just popped out as Splatoon theme to me
Though with my tiny fingers... no way since it would just make it bulky.

Making a video game wish list on amazon finally. Soooo >.> I found more games I want like Monster Hunter 3

Looking forward to trying this out, sadly the weird times mean I'll only get a chance to play once later on since I have work today but I suppose the game is out soon anyway.
