So you did finally come about? It is not that bad now XD

i don't know if you remember how many times we discussed this in the past.

Actually any neutral position you want since you can play Y to adjust it on the fly.
Haha. I never thought it would be totally unworkable. I still want a pointer option, but it ain't happening. Better to just stop worrying and love the gyro! Still beats the hell out of just a stick.

I don't think their head is in the sand, I'm pretty sure we'll get this in an update after launch. Nintendo know how many Pro-controllers there are in the wild versus WiiU systems. It's probably fair to say that support for a non-standard controller isn't a launch priority for the game, especially when they already have a plan to roll out regular updates.

If nothing else, I'd expect an option for Pro-controller where you still have the Gamepad beside you to activate various options on the touchscreen. Requires no menu redesign whatsoever, and should be an option at launch.

From Time.com
A Nintendo rep told me more traditional aiming would be an option when the game drops May 29 for Wii U only.

In a 'competitive' game like this? Lots.
The lack of gyroscope and map means you're at a huge disadvantage to the point where I wouldn't want to be in a team with you.

I'm with you on gyro being the best control method, but if you really care who's on your team, you might want to wait until you can control that in August. You're getting seven random people that are getting shuffled around. Hell, based on this thread, someone who figured out how to turn off gyro controls probably has a decent gaming IQ.

THere's like a million modes left to implement.

Infact, this is the game with the most potential i' ve seen in quite some time. This may 29th the game will be bare bones in comparison to what it could actually achieve. Even single player would be amazing in a following game.

It just needs to be successful enough to warrant a sequel. Then it would be like an original Smash to Melee jump.
For real, man.

Yeah. I do hope this game is successful. Nintendo's doing a lot to push it in that direction and I applaud them for it.

With the pad on your lap for whenever you need it for a super-jump (or whatever they call it)? I guess that's fine because you wouldn't be missing out on any of the pad's functions as far as I can tell.
I don't see them allowing it though
I've never done a super jump to be honest. Can it be done at any moment or are there requirements for it?

In principle that would work, although I'm not overjoyed at having to completely adjust your grip to do so

Fuck I'm at the office on saturday and I'm stuck here till who knows when. I was expecting to come home early for the last splatoon test but seems I'm just gonna cry here while reading your impressions :'(

Mind blowinf fact:

Some people conclude that gyro controls don't work well after less than 2 hours of play time. They expect to get used to the control method in 2 hours and be as confortable in the same way like with a control scheme that they have been using for years or maybe decades XD

Oh I agree that it's wrong to criticize controls just because the person is bad with them. Now if they just don't play well with gyro that's a whole another story. I grew up with traditional controls, will always prefer traditional controls, and play way better with traditional controls. Some are similar to me and some aren't.

This is apparently a very foreign idea to many people so I decided to enlighten them with my amazing facts!

I wouldn't hold my breath for Nintendo to add Pro-controller options like that but Mario Kart 8 did end up adding the option to add a minimap onscreen so there's that.
The option to use the Pro controller in conjuction with the gamepad would take almost literally no work. There's no excuse not to add that.
EDIT: Given that the option to turn-off the gyro is already there.

Any moment. Just tap someone on the gamepad.

I missed the first two unfortunately, but I'll be playing this one. Really wish these were more than an hour, but hey we only have a few more weeks till release.

You can make the super jump work for Pro Controller, it isn't something that's impossible. It's added work but the point is most of the work for the Pro Controller's button mapping and being recognized is there.

I don't mind using the GamePad for this game at all, I'm just saying that the option for the Pro Controller should be there just on the virtue the game is already capable of using it -- regardless of needing to figure out super jump and where to work in a map on-screen when using the Pro Controller.
The thing is that gameplay wise Pro brings absolutely nothing to the table. A Wii Remote option would be more understandable.

Going to give it another shot. I was cranky for being up for over 24 hours so hoping the controls gel with me more after a nap.

question, should people who did the beta not be able to pre-order the game with a discount? because I cant find anything from in the eu store.

i assume you'll get refunded since the discount probably won't kick in until after the beta is fully over

Quickly stabbing at the gamepad is not going to be worse than losing control to be in a menu system, and you'd have ample time to re-adjust and ready yourself while mid-Super Jump.

Isn't that just referring to the option that's already in the demo.

Here the whole paragraph
And the demo I played forced me to use the Wii U GamePad’s motion controls to aim, which I couldn’t get the hang of. A Nintendo rep told me more traditional aiming would be an option when the game drops May 29 for Wii U only.

So the guy seems to only have played the demo version like us too.

Pretty sure you can do it at any moment. I haven't noticed any limitations and it can be incredibly useful.
Like when you're far removed from the action and you see one of your team mates is closer to enemy territory. It's a real game changer when you can be there in a matter of seconds.

Yeah, fair enough.

He was forced to use gyro, but non-gyro options are already usabke in the demo. The poster you quoted above is referring to using the pro controller, which is a different demand.

I think the Nintendo Rep will have told the guy about the option to turn off the gyro and not said "wait until may 29th" instead. So it can imply anything.

$69.99 in Canada. That pretty much delayed my purchase for a while. I'll give the demo a shot, but this isn't the kind of game I feel is worth that much from the get go

sorry, my mistake..should have made it more clear..we can't even pre order..just wanted to see the price..maybe I can convince someone in my family to do the poor student something good
i feel pathetic. but I love that game

I'm curious to see the credits for the final game to see if Nintendo credits BandaiNamco for the mini-game while you're being connected to a match. Since they're buddy-buddy these days it might be part of a deal for them developing Smash, Pokken, or one of the Mario Kart Arcade games.

I know the patent expires this year, but it's not until later this year, and in theory that should cover any game that starts development before the patent expires.

Did you open it from the Global Testfire demo?

Smash is played competitively and many would argue using just the Wii Remote is putting yourself at a huge disadvantage but the option to do so is there for the player that wants it. And that game is also online vs other players using other controller types with team modes and everything.

It's inexcusable there's no Pro Controller support when the functionality is already in a fucking 1v1 offline mode. Have people forgotten that exists and is the "additional peripheral" needed to play Battle Dojo? The game supports the Pro Controller for only one mode and it's by far the least important mode in the entire package. It is there, just not letting us use it for anything else because... reasons.

Wii Remote and nunchuck aren't really all that different to the other control methods. You have all the same buttons.

A, attack
B, special
D-pad, taunt
C, jump
Z, shield

Only thing missing is one button for grab which you can press A+B together for that. It's still instant and no less disadvantageous. There's no additional effort involved and why some choose to use it.

Most of what people are saying here about Pro and Gamepad are wildly different and why they could be disadvantageous choosing one or the other due to lack of map, button reassignment or creating a little pop-up to allow you to pick a team mate to jump too. None are really that instant.
