Splatoon: new stage to be added tomorrow (June 11th)

I lost attention last week when playing the same few maps over and over and over. One more map isn't going to make me go back, not yet anyway. I think they did t more because they don't have a decent release schedule (only yoshi in Europe) this summer so need something, anything they can cling to and it's the dlc of this game, which has annoyed me.

That's a very cynical view. It's an online focused game. If they blew everything straight away, then it'd be popular for two weeks, then dropoff. Here, there will be a smaller dropoff and longevity.

It's pretty clear they're doling out the content to maintain interest, and to keep the community - or as much of it as possible - engaged until the big August update.

I think that's the official plan.

It's very weird for me how people lose interest in infinitely replayable games so fast.

But I see it all the time, even with games with more content.

Mario Kart 8 DLC arrives: "FINALLY, a reason to resume playing again."

Not saying they are wacky for that but it boggles my mind.

This has been on the market 11 days now and you lost interest last week? Wtf? This game just isn't for you, 100 maps on day one wouldn't have made a difference.

Hope you are in the minority.

Moving on, looking forward to the new stage. My dual squelcher will do work on this map.

Hope Kelp Dome does in fact have more than one Splat Zone in it.

I mean, the mode is called "Splat Zones" and each map just has the one, which can get a little dull. Two would mix things up nicely.

The port and skate has two.

Two out of 6 so far.

skatepark and port mackerel have two

Not looking forward to this map, all the high ground is grated which is hell for roller and brush users since you've got nowhere to hide. Chargers will finally have a map they aren't totally outclassed though, I suppose.

Here's a picture of another new map featured in the JP Splatfest trailer. No info on when it's coming though...

So according to the Japanese tweet, it drops tomorrow at 11am for them, which means the usual 7pm PT/10pm ET. I'm ok with that :)

Stay Freeeeeeeesh!

I remember playing this one in single player and thinking "why isn't this an online stage?" along with another one which was like a series of rising walk ways.

I've destroyed lvl 20's when I was low level, levels really don't mean as much as you think they mean.

I was level 5 and scored 1400, topping my team by over 600 points with a charger. Admittedly that was after already being level 20 and having my data wiped by my own stupidity, but I like to think the 7 other players (all level 20) in the game were shocked :p

So, are we starting to get 3 maps per rotation?

It's possible to have it now maybe, not I can understand why they may hold off.

Currently, since whatever was in Regular Battle goes to Ranked Battle, there would be only 2 combinations for example:

Regular: Arowana Mall, Walleye Warehouse and Port Mackerel.

Ranked: Urchin Underpass, Blackbelly Skatepark and Saltspray Rig.

The next turn, they'd just switch them around and it'd be predictable.

Regular: Urchin Underpass, Blackbelly Skatepark and Saltspray Rig.

Ranked: Arowana Mall, Walleye Warehouse and Port Mackerel.

Now, with a 7th map thrown into the mix, the 2nd round could be:

Regular: Kelp Dome, Blackbelly Skatepark and Saltspray Rig.

Ranked: Arowana Mall, Walleye Warehouse and Port Mackerel.

Unused: Urchin Underpass.

And after:

Regular: Urchin Underpass, Walleye Warehouse and Port Mackerel.

Ranked: Kelp Dome, Blackbelly Skatepark and Saltspray Rig.

Unused: Arowana Mall.

But, if I was Nintendo, i'd rather have only 1 of the maps from Ranked carry over again to Regular, so would wait until we have 8 maps, so the 2nd round could be:

Regular: Kelp Dome, Camp Triggerfish and Saltspray Rig.

Ranked: Arowana Mall, Walleye Warehouse and Port Mackerel.

Unused: Urchin Underpass, Blackbelly Skatepark.

3rd Round:

Regular: Urchin Underpass, Blackbelly Skatepark and Port Mackerel.

Ranked: Kelp Dome, Camp Triggerfish and Saltspray Rig.

Unused: Arowana Mall, Walleye Warehouse.

Just my personal opinion really, but right now, they have a possible 4 maps to choose to go to Regular at each rotation and if they added a 3rd map to each rotation now, they'd still only have 4 maps each time to put into 3 slots, making it kind of predictable that 2 of the maps from Ranked will be in Regular 4 hours later.

With 8 maps, they'd have 5 maps to put into 3 slots, meaning only 1 map from Ranked will have to carry over to Regular, making things fresher.

Why is there german in the JP Splatfest trailer?

Other than that, its a cool looking map

The image was actually captured by Weng in the Splatoon OT. Not sure how it popped up in their game (I haven't seen it) but it's definitely a stage we hadn't seen teased or shown in any way before.

Yay for the fact that we aren't being charged for it, therefore warranting a reason not to give it much of a thought besides worrying about the proverbial slippery slope that this may lead to!
Don't forget how we're fully aware of the content upcoming beforehand and isn't being hidden from us or us being straight up lied too.

The locked on-disc maps (there's 4 by my count) included at launch could have helped the game's reception. Instead, the reviews' most common complaint is the lack of content (maps and map rotation, namely). That's my problem. I'm already tired of the game - 3 map rotations and nearly double the maps at launch would have done wonders for me, personally.

What?
Show me the hundred megabyte downloads for these maps.

Since we got the Skyscraper map in the Splatfest trailer I assume it stands to reason that we'll probably get it before the end of the month as well.

The game's reception has been fine, both critically and commercially. If drip-feeding content keeps the online community alive, I'm all for it.
