Truth be told (and I don't mean this as a slight against voice chat at all because I really want it in friend lobbies) - the times I got to play Splat Zones it was so chaotic that I'm not even sure how voice chat would really... help.

It feels that the only plan of attack during this mode that entirely works is to improvise to your best extent. Everything gravitates into a huge cluster of insanity and the only real words I can think of yelping out that people would hear are weird portmanteaus of curse words. Especially in Blackbelly. It's ridiculously fast paced and a lot of things just fall apart even when I tend to think I approach something with a good strategy.

So I bought a third-party USB Ethernet Cable for the WiiU, and I used testmy.net to compare my wireless connection to my new wired connection. Well my download speeds came back faster through wireless (3 mb difference), with both having similar upload speeds. This is what I bought:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F41TWAO/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I heard the first party option was hard to find and fairly expensive, so I went with this. Anybody have experience with this peripheral? Wired would still be more stable I'm guessing, so I stick with it anyways? Or should I ask for a refund?

Splat Zones will be more interesting once you can play with a group of known people (actually, was it confirmed that playing with friends will be a thing in ranked?). Voice chat isn't necessary, but developing certain strategies and setting roles to each teammate can help a lot. I think these squads being formed on squidboards (for example) might be tough opponents to face when August comes because of that.

FWIW, regarding gaming, the big difference with wired compared to WiFi is that wired is full duplex (it can send and receive at the same time).

lol

I don't think Friends will receive the ability to join Ranked. The August update however, will allow people to form lobbies with custom rules, so playing Splat Zones with friends will be possible.

I'm excited for Tower Control honestly.

That is even better.

Oh God!

After 2 straight days of Ranked and failing hardcore today, I forgot how fun it is to just sit back and play Turf War.

Much easier to level up these new clothes I got from the store for today.

All I really do is buy hats, shirts and shoes and level them...that is my life now. I don't even wear most of them after.

Oh my god there's a squidboards holy shit. This is amazing.

Honestly this game probably requires more situational awareness and coordination than many shooters, because your attention isn't always laser focused on enemies...you're also painting the stage, stealthing around, keeping an eye on the pad to see where you might be most useful at this particular moment...

Good to know I'm not the only one that does this. LOL

LOL!

I didn't get the screenshot but there was a guy in Squid Plaza who's Miiverse comment quote was a picture of Carlos from Magic School Bus making a bad pun about squids.

"How many tickles does it take to make an inkling laugh...TENtacles!"

It ended up as some of the random graffiti alongside of Inktamus Prime which was Optimus' head +tentacles.

I really should've hit that hard but I was excited to hit lvl 4 that hour and hit up the shops.

:(

Real talk I hope the next map we get is Camp Triggerfish.

I've loved the look of that map ever since first laying eyes on it. So much water. Bubblers could easily be pushed off.

Ugh Rank'd is getting continuously more frustrating. Are they going to add any communication features at all? Maybe put more helpful shout-outs on the d-pad? Booyah doesn't really help much.

I would like a "You know I'm basically carrying you, right?" shout. Nice and passive aggressive.

25 points left, we have 3 alive in our team, they have one. Our team is just outside the splat zone. They wait without attacking 'til the points run to zero and we lose. 28-0.

E: Sendou, what's your rank?

I just saw a Splatoon advert on Hulu. I'm glad they're advertising but the whole 'You're a kid! You're a squid!" just oozed terrible 90s advertising. It was cringey. I guess that goes with the whole 90s motif though.
