A look at Splatoon’s neater details – Paying attention to Miiverse

The problem is that people feel robbed anyway because they expect everything for free and whine when it isn't.

Words like yours are exactly what is wrong with this mentality.
Thanks for summing it up so effectively.

People pay for the game, as far as I know Splatoon isn't a free-to-play, is it ?
Content on the disc you're buying should be unlockable without having to open your wallet once more.

Are we really having this discussion again, after all the day-1 paid DLC crap we got from many publishers ?
Seriously...

Which is more toxic to gaming: the customer who accepts to buy anything twice (because that's what locked content is, in a sense), or the one who complains about it to hopefully change the situation back to what it was years ago ?

I was pointing out the irony how of light content games like Mobas are making more money just for skins as F2P games than real/disc games.
Which mean, don't judge a game by it's cover. If people have fun, they will spend the money on it whatver is a F2P or P2P or a full a game.

You don't like something ?
Vote with your wallet. Don't buy what you don't like.

I wish today was a worldwide release of Splatoon, then I would be a birthday squid now rather than a birthday kid...now.

I'm definitely excited for tomorrow though.

At 12:37, the time he was expected to come, I hear the bell.

Me to Peter: "I've been following you! Why were you down here like 3 hours ago?"

Peter Laughing: "I know! I bet you were thinking "Why won't he come to me?""

Me: "Yup!"

Now to sell the game next week for the Digital Copy. If I can sell a Bundle Version that is.

Just to clear up any confusion, did you think I replied to your comment while saying I disagreed ?
I quoted another member.

By the way, I totally agree with your last few posts.

I think the 'content' unlocked with the splatoon amiboo are a good compromise between giving you something for having the amiboo, but not giving you anything so special that everyone without amiboo feel robbed.
If it was just the skins and weapons (which are just reskins), then I wouldn't really care they locked that behind amiibo.

But the challenges are something I think looks very interesting and would have bolstered the game greatly if it was included in the base game. Have you seen the Kraken challenges in particular? You basically do speedruns and can do most of the levels without even transforming into a kid. It looked like it was a lot of fun.

Then there are the mini-games that they locked behind them as well, and this one doesn't seem like it was made for the purpose of amiibo. Seems more like they made them and then decided to add them to the pile of amiibo-locked content cause we knew there was going to be an arcade sort of thing since the first trailer.

They locked "3 things" behind them (with each amiibo having different things as well, one of which can only be obtained in an amiibo pack), it doesn't seem like a good compromise to me.

I just wanted to say how I felt about the matter, don't really want to really talk about amiibo outside of that.

Happy birthday.

I certainly don't agree with the way it is being handled with Splatoon amiibos.

I have an issue when a Mario figure unlocks Mario content in a Mario game, I have an issue when a Splatoon figure unlocks Splatoon content in a Splatoon game (especially considering the price of amiibo's)...

...on the flipside I don't have an issue if a Splatoon figure unlocks Splatoon content in a Mario game or a Mario figure unlocks Mario content in a Splatoon game. As I don't think that non-franchise content would have existed if not for the Amiibo.

Wow, I just had one frustrating match. Felt like I had to carry my team at the last few minutes. Killed the whole team by myself in front of our spawn. Luckily we won, but a com error happened before I got my score...lol

I downloaded the demo, but didn't have the chance of playing it. Hopefully discount will still apply. What is the time of EU release? UK midnight?
On previous releases it was midnight in every country (I´m in Spain and some games have unlocked at that exact time). But it could be different this time, I have only waited for a game to unlock in midnight once or twice.

I understand what you are saying, but I think that in this case, this extra content wouldn´t exist if it weren´t for amiibos. I mean, Nintendo´s way of functioning with amiibos up until this point has been more of an afterthought: "hey, we have to add something for the amiibos...just drop some costumes/custom colors or whatever" or using other functionalities the figurines can provide. It´s very different from creating the content and then adding a paywall to certain parts. Though I agree that in this case the amiibo content is the usual day one DLC. They should´ve thought of something different like the added functionality in Smash because as it is, it´s really locked content behind a paywall for Splatoon.

Having fun thus far, just did the first single player mode. Some Japanese players were destroying me in battle mode. Still toying with the ideal stick sensitivity. Y-axis always seems too fast relative to X.

Fair point.

The nature of the content is key. I strongly feel like the challenges and mini-games unlocked by amiibos in Splatoon could have been (and are in reality) in the base game.

To expand on your post, the way they handled amiibos with Mario Kart is very acceptable: they unlock cosmetics, which aren't part of the classic Mario Kart experience.
It's just a "thank you" to those that have bought amiibos for other Nintendo games.

This should become the norm: each amiibo unlocking little cosmetic things in many different games. Easter eggs of some sort.

Ahhh - good times. From Amazon UK, one after another:
- Splatoon special edition shipped
- Splatoon girl shipped
- Splatoon boy shipped

Tomorrow is going to be good!

To those complaining about "Lack of Content" until August: Would you rather have the base game be $40, and have the additional map and weapons be $20 DLC (instead of free) in August?

I don't think anyone wants that, but most likely a lot of people are now used to the "early access" style of game delivery, where a non-finished game is released for purchase early at a reduced price but light on content, yet promised to deliver more content for free to early buyers soon afterwards. In this case, Nintendo is essentially allowing early access but for full price, which is typically not done in the industry.

It's about value in the end. Note that I'm not one of the people complaining about this, but I am waiting until the game is "done" (and to see what it's longevity is) before buying both Splatoon and a Wii-U. That said, I'm pretty sure I see both in my near future.....

So it's likely this is waiting for me at home. After reading reviews, they really need ot patch in the ability ot change weapon without leaving your lobby. Christ.

Nintendo offers a Wii U bundle with Splatoon on May 29

People who can't wait to get their tentacles on Nintendo's upcoming action shooter Splatoon are in luck!

The Wii U Special Edition Splatoon Deluxe Set launches in retail stores starting on May 29. This inkredible bundle includes a Wii U Deluxe console and both the Splatoon (via included download code) and Nintendo Land (pre-installed) games.

Splatoon and the Wii U Special Edition Splatoon Deluxe Set launch in stores across Canada and exclusively at Best Buy in the United States on May 29.

Do we know if they're doing a midnight digital launch in Europe CET? Sorry if already asked, gaf moves fast. ^^

Wii Fit Meter? And Splatoon Dogtag AND Smash Dogtag AND a Red Shell my friend made all on a chain together? Might aswell just wear my Bullet Bill Shirt and go full Nintendo...

...or my Xbox One Shirt.

Yeah me too =) they should just unlock the game today at 9 PM or something, stores sell stuff as soon as they have it while we have to wait for the actual launch :/ kinda bummed.

(Yeah I'm jelly, a lot ^^)

You're right though.

Nintendo should see the situation and react to it. Not by preventing further sales from retailers, but unlocking the game on the eShop I mean.

Maps will be added during the time leading up to August. Not In August. The press has just shown their lack of ability to present information correctly and made it sound like there is only one August update coming.

Facts:
  • The game will get updates with new maps over the coming weeks
  • In August there will be a big update that also contains new modes and stuff.

Is the framerate in the plazza really 30 fps? It seems a bit lower. I wonder why, it's not particularly complex. It makes me worried about the next Zelda.

What does Zelda have to do with anything now? That's not only a different team but also a completely different type of game with more than double the development cycle. Zero reason to worry about that based on anything here.

They unlcoked Smash early. I pre-loaded it and was playing it at like 8PM lol (it was meant to unlock at midnight).

Which is why I am bummed out there isn't a pre-load option for Splatoon in the EU. :(
