Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

I'm certainly seeing less use of the bubbler special which given I'm in lagland (I've done everything on my end, wired connection, ports forwarded...I'm still on a phone line though rather than fibre) is something I'm okay with. Now if only those blasted Kraken could go away too.

When you're refilling ink your meter flashes when you have enough ink for your sub weapon.
There is also a sound effect to indicate it too.

Splatoons no different from any other moba. Useless teammates are frustrating.
Especially Splat zones with the frustrating you spend nearly 5 minutes on this struggle but you lost so YOU GET NOTHING!

Don't do this. Splatoon isn't a "MOBA" and "MOBA" is a bad genre name anyway. Almost any online game can be called a "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena".

I like Valve's name for Dota 2, " Action RTS", although this name can't really apply to the whole genre since stuff like Smite exists.

Anyway Splatoon is definitely an arena shooter in the vein of Quake, but of course with it's own set of rules. I think the main thing that puts it in that group is fast pace and movement-focused gameplay.

How often can you get money from Judd? Once every map rotation, or once per day?

Your Vibe (based on your wins/losses-ratio) resets every map rotation, so you can get more from him every 4 hours. It's 100 for Toasty, 300 for Smokin' and 1000 for On Fire (there's also SO HAWT, but I haven't ever gotten there, so not sure what that nets you).

The amount of money stacks, so if you have "On Fire" but you never went to see him while "Toasty" or "Smokin'" you will get 1400.

I rerolled to gal 96 and got 11 wins, 1 loss. I feel the weapon is pretty OP when I play against it, I hate using it due to the low fire rate which is annoying to me as an aerospray user on turf wars. But hey I ranked up to A- thanks to it.

What's the general consensus of the life of this game? Apologizing an advance for not reading the 340 pages of this thread. Had some extra cash, bought a WiiU Super Mario 3d Bundle. Mario has been great, Just curious if this game warranted 60 bucks yet.

40 hours logged so far. Haven't scratched the surface. Still loads of fun. Can't wait to go back home to play more. And I've been playing games since the NES...

Edit: Pick up Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2 and Captain Toad while you're at it! Affordable Space Adventures on the eShop as well.

Just joking. Though there are many similarities in the PvP aspect I would never seriously call it a moba.

port mack is pretty interesting as a splat zone map

It's probably my favorite Splat Zone map so far. Having two capture points in divergent narrow pathways makes for an interesting attack/defend dynamic because due to the proximity between the zone and the spawn point, one team is guaranteed to have one captured point to defend. It's hard as nails to tell what the safe approach is. It's like high speed stealthing.

could do with a bit more accessible high ground, taking out the forklifts actually kind of annoys me

god ranked is so good when the game is actually contested instead of being stomp after stomp after stomp

Wow, OT2 title vote is pretty close. I'm down with either of the top two though, so it's all good.

What's the general reaction to the zapper? Haven't played with it yet but it's so aesthetically pleasing that I want to use it regardless of its power.

Think the Splattershot Jr. but with a much more narrow spread. It's a weapon for accuracy, pretty good in Ranked Battles thanks to the Echolocator.

Good range and fire rate, great special (echolator), questionable sub weapon (bomb). Oh and it might be a little bit ink hungry, but not as hungry as the splattershot pro.

Wait what? How does it decide who wins in the event of a draw?

Just finished a game with both teams on 100 seconds and the othet team got one point and won. Where did that one point come from?

This game would be approximately 9.65 times better if I could just ban ever playing with Japanese people. I never want to play with or against them and it's ruining the online for me.

Just let me play with Europeans.

I'm Level 17 and got paired in a game full of Level 1, 3, and 4 players. I felt bad after the match, so I exited the lobby and found another group to play with lol

I don't have more lag with Japanese players than with European. Quite the opposite, most of the time actually. I'm on a wired connection.

Wait for Splatfest, you'll have a whole day playing with EU players only.

Hi folks. I jumped into this recently and love it, but I'm having issues finding answers to these questions. The thread here is so large I'm sure they've been asked, but I can't seem to track them down. Any advice is appreciated:

1) Do multiple item bonuses stack? Say, if I have increased run speed shoes will that stack with an increased run speed hat?
2) Who is Judd? How do I find him?
3) Are there any obvious things a newbie should be doing outside of matches? Talking to Judd for example, gearing up in a certain way, etc? I'm mostly unsure what the best options are for spending my gold to gear up.
4) I've been consistently #1 or #2 on my team's leader boards for my first 6-7 matches. I've won more than lost. Feels good bro.

Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks!

if me and a teammate score 11 and 10 kills and you score 1 or 2 kills on my team and feed the enemy 12 dissolves i earn the right to ritually disembowel and grill you on a skewer

1) Do multiple item bonuses stack? Say, if I have increased run speed shoes will that stack with an increased run speed hat?

Yes, they stack but with diminishing returns.

2) Who is Judd? How do I find him?

The sleeping cat in the Plaza.

3) Are there any obvious things a newbie should be doing outside of matches? Talking to Judd for example, gearing up in a certain way, etc? I'm mostly unsure what the best options are for spending my gold to gear up.

Play the single player campaign. It's good preparation, and you unlock some good things.

Several passive abilities like Damage Up etc. stack but not if they're on the same piece of gear. They don't have as much of an effect the more you add though.

2) Who is Judd? How do I find him?

Judd is the cat that determines who the winner is at the end of a round. He sleeps right outside of the Inkopolis Tower.

3) Are there any obvious things a newbie should be doing outside of matches? Talking to Judd for example, gearing up in a certain way, etc? I'm mostly unsure what the best options are for spending my gold to gear up.

Experiment, find your niche. Buy gear that you like. Play the Single Player to practice, beat bosses to get their scrolls which grant you access to new weapons to buy (assuming you're the proper level).

4) I've been consistently #1 or #2 on my team's leader boards for my first 6-7 matches. I've won more than lost. Feels good bro.

Already off to a good start, keep it up.

Is there any point in playing ranked before you hit level 20? Yeah, you get 1800p if you win, but if you lose, you get big fat ZERO. The rewards are great, but so are the risks.

Yesterday we won a match 96-95 in Saltspray Rig. Was super even all throughout, it's pretty nail biting.

I understand why they withheld ranked from actual launch (even if it only took 3 days). You really need a competent team to push and defend in it. It's super hectic due to how everything is compacted to this one area you have to keep fighting over.

Higher the rank, the more experience you earn when you win. C+ was 2500

Got to B- but haven't tested that out yet. You can level up much faster in rank as long as you win 50% of the time

1) yes they do (at least some of them). but they don't stack linear. for example: more strength increases your shot dmg +3 , 2 stacks won't let have you dmg +6. It's somewhere between 3 and 6 (my numbers are random). Also to note: primary abilites (the big icons) have a greater effect than secondary abilities. Ninja squid obviously doesn't stack.

2) Judd is the cat. You can find him in front of the lobby.

3) Talk to Judd once per map rotation. He will reward you with some gold based on your longest winning spree. As for gearing: just have fun with it. Buy some stuff in the shops, level up as you feel like. :)

As far as I can tell, this is wrong. I tried that by my own. they seem to stack

The way ranked works now with random weapon loadouts is garbage. I've consistently guessed right which team will win before the match even starts. It's pure luck based.

Thanks all! Looks like I'll finish up the rest of single-player first, then get back into online multiplayer. I'm leaning towards focusing entirely on speed-increasing items (run speed, swim speed, and anything else that exists) as mobility seems really useful/fun in this game.
