The thing is going to be a fucking bloodbath. Super Sea Snails are worth 30 thousand a piece, and your amount is doubled if your team (region wide, not game specific) wins the entire event. Anyone who works for the other team is your ENEMY.

I figured Japan already had theirs when I saw all the Splatfest T-shirts pop up in the lobby yesterday. Until then it wasn't clear to me the events were regionally specific. Which may be a problem for me, as I play on NA but not during the typical hours for NA players.

Actually that guy Spyke can take the snails and add extra perk slots to your clothing or reroll the perk in every slot on a piece of clothing (ex. A shirt with two slots can have 3 slots if you give up snails)

You can use them to add slots to your gear (so some nice shoes that only have 2 slots for example can be upgraded to 3 slots).

Spyke lets you add 1 subperk to a gear not already at the max of 3 subperks for 30,000 or randomize the subperks of one with 3 already unlocked. One snail can fill that entire cost.

I would say 2/3s of the gear in the game are 2 stars or fewer, meaning you need 1 or two snails each to get the full potential out of all the gear in the game.

The maximum number of snails you can earn is 24, if you performed very well and your team (regionwide) won. However, this is halved if your regionwide team loses.

And how is this going to work since the online's region free, but the Splatfests seem to be region exclusive? (This weekend in Japan's with Rice and Bread, next weekend is NA's Cats and Dogs, and the weekend after that is EU's Rock and Pop apparently.)
