Split/Second Demo Out Now on XBLM

Anyone try the PC version yet? That's the version I'm probably going for, but it was ported by another studio for Black Rock, which has me concerned. I'm hoping the PC version will provide a smooth 60 fps, but you never know with console ports.

I enjoyed the demo but I'd also like to try out Blur. I've always liked PGR but I'll have to wait for the Blur demo to be released first.

I was kinda shocked to see the high review scores but then I read about the rubberbanding AI in reviews and in here. Thanks but no thanks. I'll save myself the frustration.

So let me get this straight:

Going faster than everyone else = Non-repetitive

Going faster than everyone else + strategically blowing up other racers + changing course layout = Repetitive

What the fuck are you talking about?

It's not even a matter of preference or "the type of racing fan you are".

If you are a sim racing fan, driving 1h30 in Grand Prix 4/iRacing around the same track, while adjusting setups to improve the lap time is less repetitive than activating the same scripted events over and over. On the other hand, an arcade racing fan will get bored driving around Spa after 5 laps. So yes, of course it's a matter of preference.

That's interesting, as quite a few people (including myself) have commented on the poor (read: unfair) AI rubber banding.

Are you drifting even after you are in first place? I have notice that Drifting in this game lowers your velocity, causing the AI to get close faster. So ones I get into first place I don't drift and the AI has problems getting close to me if there isn't any explosions to lower my velocity that is.

Repetitive is not the word you're looking for then.

Old, would be more apt.

I am with you as far as wanting PC. Plus, I would like to know if the PC port supports the X360 controller and/or the Logitech wheels.

To be fair, battle racers are a lot more fun when you have other AI cars to battle.

Well, I picked it up today but one try it until much later. Here's hoping it's a decent port. 60 fps would make a big difference here.

They just closed the multiplayer demo that was open for a couple months. :P As far as demos go, it was far better than the S/S demo simply because it had multiple stages, cars, and was online. The S/S demo is barebones by comparison.

Of course both games are awesome and I'm getting S/S today and Blur when it comes out next week. (I do think Blur is better though.)

It sounds like it does based off the reviews. Only thing that worries me about the PC version is online. Will there be anyone playing?

Please let us know how it plays, I had the 360 version pre-ordered and cancelled it last minute because of the subpar graphics and framerate.

Waiting to hear impressions, I tried the demo twice on separate occasions, both times I nailed first and the powers seemed far more gimmicky than tactful. Couldn't really decipher any reason to not just immediately abuse them the moment the little icon pops up over an opponent, and well...the racing came across as surprisingly dim.

Yet podcasts seem to really dig it, so what is the disconnect here? Poor demo?

Based on how much I played and loved the demo, I went ahead and picked this up along with RDR. Played for about an hour this morning and had a blast with it. Could just be my imagination, but the game does feels much faster than the demo. The AI does seems a bit cheap at times, but I really suck at racing games, so that's probably why I had a hard time finishing first place in some of the later races in the first episode.

I dunno, maybe GAF is right and this game does suck. I guess I'm just a sucker for flashy graphics and explosions.

After reading some of the reviews I was turned off by the lack of depth and bare bones online (where the game would thrive IMO)

I will probably give the game a rent or pick it up on PC when it hits $20, unless GAF impressions are really strong

Wal-Mart is selling it for $30 with a $10 gift card included. Their cheapest shipping is awful so I'm going to try to pick it up at a store and return the boxed copy whenever it arrives (probably in June).

This may have been discussed, but as far as I can tell the Wireless Wheel is basically useless with this game (I've got the retail version). From using it briefly it seems to me the dead zone is just crazy big and makes turning too difficult. Not that I'd necessarily want to use a wheel for this other than just to fool around with, but I just wanted to see if anyone had better luck.

I'm willing to try my hand at the official thread, but I would aim for something like the one for Blur. Would that be OK?

Sure. That'd be fine. Doesn't need some "Official thread of Driving around in my automo... OMG A PLANE!" or anything.

the giantbomb review (4/5) does a good job of explaining what is good and bad about it

hopefully the PC price will drop soon
