I will repost the thread with the Greasemonkey userscripts that can help.

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=566695

With the re-alphabetize script and a little work on your side (and a dropbox account or anywhere else you can store a publicly accessible text file online), you can have a custom list of names to replace ones you don't like, and they'll be ordered properly too. The only downside is it slows down the page loading times a bit.

Interesting.

That MAL Greasemonkey script has absolutely saved my sanity regarding that site. I nearly flipped my desk when I saw Spice and Wolf, which I had been watching for the first time, turn into Ookami to Koushinryou sometime late last year.

If it wasn't for the fact that custom list designs are fun for me, I'd have abandoned that site for something a bit more useable.

This reminds me that I never watched the last episode of Spice and Wolf season 1. Strange, cause the last one I watched ended on such a cliffhanger.

The definition is American, because if we were speaking Japanese "anime" would refer to animation of any nation of origin.

What would be hilarious is a Japanese language bashing campaign of MAL, but unfortunately weeaboos can't be bothered to actually learn enough to read it.

lol, druggie toys

The world of shinki is kind of fucked up. Your master sends you back for whatever reason and your memory gets erased. Let's not forget they're essentially slaves in the first place. This is some AI dilemma shit right here.

Straight Title Robot Anime 12 (End)

Didnt like the ending episode that much but it was to be expected based on the plot. Anyway I had some amounts of fun throughout the twelve episodes. The closest Id probably get to enjoying an anime just based around girls doing things, I guess being robots made it a bit more interesting and the va's are pretty funny in their own skits. The robot simulations were an excellent touch as well with hilarious concepts for changing the battle moments (Subaru!). 7 / 10.

Woah, didn't know someone else here was watching this. Did you ever watch gdgd fairies? It's pretty much the only other show to have an improv sections for the VAs and it's got a similar setup beyond being another MMD show, I think you might like it.

Look in the script source and find the dropbox file. Copy it into a text editor of your choice. Edit the lines corresponding to the anime whose names you want to change with the name you want to display, or erase what's there to use the romaji name in MAL's database (using the line number = MAL ID + 1 rule, where the ID is in the URL for the anime you're naming, so for LOGH with ID=820, you edit line 821). Upload the modified text document to dropbox or other public hosting of your choice. Replace the text file location in the script. That should work.

Yes, it'll require a bit of upkeep as you add new shows to your list, but it should be worth it in the long run.

Please let me know if this works, or if I made a mistake in the instructions somewhere.

Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi and Omoide Poroporo are my favourite Ghibli movies. Oh god.

I'm surprised FMA didn't get butchered.

If it were in Japanese, it'd say 千と千尋の神隠し!!! /idiot

EDIT: beaten like a weaboo dog by Mad Pierrot >_>

Another new anime coming in July -- Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku, based on one of Gangan Online's manga series.
"Kitakubu" (literally, "go-home club") is Japanese slang for kids who go home instead of joining clubs, sports, or other afterschool activities. In one school, there is a real "Kitakubu" of high school girls who do whatever they like. The president is a free spirit named Sakura, while Botan is the combative heir to a school of ancient martial arts. Claire happens to be the daughter of the head of the powerful Kokonoe conglomerate. Natsuki joins the club at the invitation of another freshman, Karin, but she is unprepared for the hijinks there.
alternate summary said:
When a friend asks Natsuki what high school club she's going to join, she cheerfully responds "the go-home club". However, she soon realizes that this club actually exists at her high school, and she's just expressed interest in joining it! Before she knows it, she ends up as one of the two new members of "the go-home club," which is a small group of eccentric school girls. One of the girls likes fighting bears, while another is ridiculously rich. But what exactly does the go-home club do?

Yeah, I switched to the cached version and notices the dropbox url in the scripting so I'll mess around with that and see what happens.

Wait, they weaboo'd LOGH?!

Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu?!!!!!
Yep, it's a disgrace.

Evangelion: 1.11 You are (not) alone (BD Rewatch)
I've been pretty addicted to Eva stuff lately. It's getting a bit unhealthy! Especially for my wallet, though the first two Rebuild movies are reasonably priced and pretty well packaged, so I ordered them pretty readily. I watched this originally on Toonami when it aired not too long ago and enjoyed it well enough, but for some reason when it's sandwiched between commercials and barely SD quality I don't feel like I can give it a fair rub. So now having seen the BD (and with the Japanese track, which is how I experienced the characters originally) I feel like I can give some real impressions.

I typed out some thoughts I had while enjoying the movie just so I'd have them collected, so if this sounds a bit listy for an impression post, I apologize in advance.

The new look of the Rebuild movies probably affects me less than it does others, that is, at least 1.11— It isn't hard to imagine them botching it a bit later on (especially hearing so much vehement distaste for the new 4.0 preview). Though here the movie generally is quite nice to look at. That is to say, it looks like a big budget anime flick. The caveat being the sometimes intrusive CG we're all too familiar with. Except in a few places I didn't think it got in the way too much during the film. Notably, when New Tokyo 3 was preparing for an Angel invasion and the buildings begin to descend, the CG buildings come across as hollow and fake. A stark contrast to Eva TV which had fantastic mechanical structures all the time (Something I really loved pointing out while doing impressions for the show!). I did see the Eva's as CG occasionally, but they were few and far between as well as brief, so I don't really have any comment there. Except maybe when the 6th Angel threw 01 and he was flying through the air... That was sad CG. The Angels, sans the Fourth, were mostly, if not all CG, and while I'd obviously prefer to see them hand drawn, I didn't think they were poorly done. It supplemented their otherwordly nature in some aspects, and I think that was sort of a relief. That being said, all-in-all, the visual presentation was great— especially in HD.

The narrative pace of the film ended up pretty excellent. In the beginning it was a bit quick and I imagine hard to follow for those new to the series, but it evened out and found its stride in good time. My biggest worry for a film representation of this story is what could be lost by a rushed nature. A lot of my personal enjoyment of the series comes from the deep psychological paradigm of Shinji and the pilots; something that might be trounced over in favor of a hard hitting blockbuster movie. I ended up really content with the way they handled it. Especially Shinji's wandering through the streets of Tokyo 3. A few small things were lost. If I'm allowed to nitpick, I was sad to see the moment with 01 blocking falling shrapnel from hurting Shinji on the umbilical bridge be omitted. I always thought that scene really brought to life the bizarre nature of the Eva's. Though I could see it being taken out for plot reasons, namely if
Yui's soul isn't within 01 for whatever reason
, in which case I'll be happy they did get rid of it. What else? It was odd not seeing
SEELE portrayed as humans at the get-go.
I wonder what the reasoning for this could be? Perhaps in retrospect they didn't feel the need to cover up some of the secrets as much as they originally did. What with
Shinji being straight up introduced to Lilith. Also, the shout-out to the instrumentality project in the Gendo SEELE conversation.
I hope instead of just making the plot more accessible, they go with something surprising and new. DON'T TELL ME..!

It's a good start to the Rebuild series and it gives me hope for the movies ahead. On to 2.22 with Asuka <3

Uta no Prince-sama Maji Love 2000% 04

I will say my enjoyment of each episode basically relates to how much I like the idol boy of the day. Today's Mr. Straight Arrow, so I wasn't as interested.

I did enjoy more Mamoru hamming it up which is always fun.

I am also amused at how much less of a role the otome lead has this season. She might as well be the deus ex machina of the troubles where she magically solves the problems without even being there. Hell, the new idol is basically taking over her role this season as the voice of support. Oh my, is he the new otome lead? I approve...

The Marvel/Madhouse power hour will never end!
Iron Man: Rise of Technovore and Ultimate Spider-Man producer Harrison Wilcox revealed in an interview with ComicBookMovie.com that fans can expect more collaborations between Marvel and the anime Studio MADHOUSE.

"Like anything in the entertainment industry, people should vote with their wallets if they want more of something," Wilcox said. The producer also said announcements about future animated Marvel plans "would be mid July for some reason..."
So I guess they might announce something at SDCC?

They really like that superimposing someone's face onto a moving background while they are talking. Are they trying to distract us from all the WORDS.

The problem with Valvrave is that its a straight Gundam rip with a pretty boring protagonist. The only differentiation it has was the twist which is not even the good kind of twist.

The Light of El Cantare
Jewelpet Happiness 03:

bImCSGB.jpg

WHY ARE THERE STRAWS IN THE BREAD

This is awesome. Jewelpet Happiness is easily a better plastic-shit-for-little-girls show than Dokidoki Precure, and here are some of the reasons why:

  • The characters aren't as blatantly archetypical. Chiari, the protagonist, has some prominent foibles like her bad luck, but there's no single personality trait that dominates any of the main cast to nearly the extent of a character like Mana. I mean, hell; one of Chiari's two best friends is some kind of magnate's daughter like Alice, but does she have a butler and drive everywhere in a stretch Duesenberg and conform to the stiff and delicate oujosama act? No; her background doesn't even come into play unless the show can do something funny with it like it did in this episode. Jewelpet Happiness's humor doesn't rely on its characters acting in narrowly predictable ways and interaction feels surprisingly unforced/not meticulously designed by committee for it.

  • There's really no unpleasant or garish character design. I'm not sure who the character designer for this is (ask 7Th, he'll probably know), but characters are drawn in a streamlined, rounded style that's low-budget friendly while still being distinctive. It's clear that the designer has experience creating characters for otaku shows, but there's nothing suggestive or uncomfortable about the Jewelpet characters.

  • The girls are actually allowed to like boys. Progressive stuff. There are even man nips in the OP!

  • Actually likeable mascots. Yes, this is no joke. No less than six or seven critters are present in a given episode and they're deeply integrated into the events of the show, but somehow, I don't want to murder any of them. Most are reasonably intelligent, manage to use "cute" voices without being ear-murdering, only a couple of them have verbal tics, and they actually interact instead of moralizing or Speedwagoning. This episode actually caused me to (pardon my French Cajun) hnnng at a mascot for the first time in my life, and that's something that I thought I was incapable of.

  • Plastic shit kept to a minimum. There's some kind of faux-iPhone that the mascots use to do something called "Jewelflash" (and I have no fucking clue how it even works yet), but other than that, it's not constantly in-your-face. They introduced some kind of heart-shaped mp3 player or whatever this episode, but are the characters constantly going to be sporting it? Nope, it gets hung on the wall of the Jewelpet Cafe as a music speaker and isn't mentioned for the rest of the episode. There's no guarantee that the plastic shit won't pile up over the course of the series, but for now it's completely tolerable.

  • Fun humor and lots of reaction faces for all the reaction face fans. There's sort of the same "throw shit at the wall and see what sticks" philosophy to entertainment that made Smile Precure good, and while it's not quite developed to that level yet, the show is essentially a no-drama stream of antics and gags. 7Th has mentioned that previous installments like Jewelpet Sunshine showed a surprising amount of intelligence and self-awareness, and while it remains to be seen if the same can be said of Happiness, it's at least not dumbed-down for a kiddie show and you can tell that there's an effort being made to make it entertaining to general audiences.

I'm really tired right now and it's entirely possible that I'm playing this up way too much, but hosanna likes it so I'd like to think that it's not just me being :madp. Anyone who was dissatisfied with Dokidoki but still wants a weekly injection of harmless fun should give this a shot.

Oh yay, Tsubomi overcame the trial! And now they got these new Super Silhouette costumes. They're nice, but I hope they're not permanent, and are only used for that mega-attack they pulled on the Desert Devil at the end. I'd miss the colorfulness of the current ones if they went away.

Man I'm gonna be bummed when I finish this series. It's soooooo good. At this point in Futari wa I was ready to be done with it, but here I just want more more MORE!!!!!

Shin Sekai Yori is so goddamn weird.

And yet I can't stop watching.

SSY is a flawed masterpiece.
It is very unsettling too. purposefully disorienting and uncomfortable.

Why do so many people have to preface their excitement with "I don't like anime, but..." in pretty much every anime-related thread with some kind of mainstream appeal? Are they that ashamed to admit something in the medium could be enjoyable to them?

people are insecure about everything.

gotta maintain that faux-alpha cred so that people still care what you have to say on the truly important subjects like dolphin porn and Five Guys vs. Whataburger.

nobody takes anything I say all that seriously and for the most part they shouldn't.
my avatar is thusly appropriate.

You just haven't finished Geass yet is the problem.

Is Geass the most divisive mecha anime or what?

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam 25

Did I miss something? Last episode was capturing a lunar city, and this episode they have a prisoner and a colony drop is under way AGAIN. Good heavens this is at least the third time a colony has been dropped in UC. Kinda excessive, isn't it? This old guy hitting on Lt. Emma is adorable, though. Kinda sad that this means Kamile isn't gonna pick up Emma for himself though. Screw Fa, get with dat EMMA! When have Emmas ever been disappointing? Emma Watson, Emma Peal, Emma Frost . . .

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!!!!!!!!!! It's a law in Gundam you can't just say Wong, you have to shout it.

OH GEEZ. This Colony Drop episode is EXACTLY the same as the ending of 0083. JEEZ, Stardust Memory was just an all around terrible show, wasn't it?

With all of the people recently going through School Days for the first time here, I thought since I'd waited this long I might as well finally start it too. So HERE I GO:

School Days 1 - Confession
From the get-go, this episode had quite a few instances of awkward transitions. They were mostly fade outs but they didn't flow well. And that glass breaking opening title effect, oh man.
I did like the scenes in both episodes where Makoto and Sekai were passing notes to each other. It's nice to know that Makoto can at least be somewhat assertive when he wants to as well. Although, I kept thinking that he shouldn't even touch the tea that Kotonoha made after eating all of her awful sandwiches. She could have messed something up with that pouring tea! You never know!

Then comes the scene when Sekai sneaks in a kiss and that's when you know shit's gonna get real. If I didn't already kinda know what happens at the end of this wild journey, I would have said that romance tropes would take over and Sekai, the overly helpful friend, would be the true winner of da School Days.

School Days 2 - Distance Between the Two

I like that a lot of this episode is from the perspective of a "couple" going through their first dates no matter how bumbling they actually are together. I can't say it's a very common thing to show a relationship like this in anime which is why it feels pretty refreshing. I'm a sucker for stuff like this so the more the merrier!

This show really presents Kotonoha as such a naive, innocent girl in these first two episodes that I'm eager to see where it goes from here. On the opposite spectrum, Sekai is becoming quite the frisky girl!
