Betterman 01:
Okay, so.....uhh..........Seraphis, if you want to mutually dissolve our agreement, I'm cool with that, because this was just.......man, I don't even know where to begin.
I suppose it was a bad sign already when the OP was a live action video of a coral reef under the ocean with translucent stills of the characters slowly panning across the screen to some kind of slow, warbling song. It was uncomfortably Arjuna-esque. I mean, any mecha series from the years immediately following Evangelion should be assumed by default to be pretentious garbage full of DEEP THEMES, but this show basically trumpets it from the hilltops within a minute of starting.
I think that what struck me the most in the first few minutes was just how much the art design in the show embodies the absolute worst of the 90s. The insufferably-loudmouthed wiener of a protagonist has an endless repertoire of fugly faces, and virtually every other character is afflicted with some severe curves in their facial profiles, cheek zigzags, goo-goo-googly eyes, really sharp hair, and other unfortunate features common in shows of the era. I mean, this is just a taste:
good lord.
Apart from the character design, it's a visually bland show. While this may have been partially attributable to the subterranean locale in which most of the episode took place, the color palette feels dark, dull, and muddy. There is no impressive animation of note, and while it's always tempting to describe 2D mecha animation as being good by default, Betterman's mecha are entirely average for a work of its time. There was no fluidity, complexity, or dynamism to the combat in the episode; the mecha essentially stands in place, makes simple punches, beam attacks, and so on. There are really only two visual aspects of the episode of note: first, the show seems to have been produced in widescreen, which is unusual for the time. It's sometimes clear that the staff has no idea how to frame scenes correctly because the tops of characters' heads are often awkwardly cropped off, so if this was a thoughtless choice to make the show appear more "serious", it's laughable.
Second, and perhaps most oddly, it's quite noticeable that whenever a scene has any sort of digital effects e.g. displays on computer monitors, the entire scene is inked digitally and the show freely switches between ink and digital animation at will. It's blatantly obvious:
I'm not even going to speak about the narrative because it's the same boy-meets-mecha and same absolute mess of technobabble that every Evangelion ripoff that ever was and ever will be has had as a first episode. Except Betterman is worse than the average ripoff because even serious scenes are laced with ill-fitting and atrocious manic "comedy", usually courtesy the protagonist. Imagine a version of Evangelion where, at the moment that Gendou orders Rei to be bought out on her gurney after Shinji refuses to pilot Eva-01, that Rei's IV bag pole falls over and hits Shinji in the balls with a loud clanging sound effect. That's the essence of Betterman comedy.
I'm unsure as to whether or not I'll stick with this as I have far better shows that I want to use my time to catch up on, but it's unquestionably bad.
From the Frontier Works booth at ACE. Neptunia anime related:
Director is apparently Masahiro Mukai. He's said to be a fan of Nepgear and Uni, which spells nothing but unmitigated disaster. On the plus side, he's also reported as saying that he doesn't want to show a male character in the anime.
I'm starting to think that one scene from Kotoura-san (you know the one) did more to damage GAF's view of anime as a whole than just about anything ever.
Seriously, that fucking scene, man.
There was a movie?

Sounds like something that needs to be seen.I can honestly say that Betterman's digital scenes looked better than its cel scenes.
Yeah this looks pretty awesome.Ufotable's Yoyo and Nene movie looks great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVswez8lzYQ
If those people even knew how mild it really is in the grand scheme of things...every second word would be an accusation of pedophilia.

Very reminiscent of an intro for one of the games. Zero IF or Compa except for a background appearance at 0:23 / zero Blanc outside of stills is slightly disappointing. OP is Bitfrost tier. Get hype regardless.Neptunia anime PV for darkside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Mc4coUqWSkc
Old website said summer 2013 and PV confirms it. Edit: Updated website also confirms it.When is this supposed to come out??
nao from 5pb. She did the OPs for the games.Do you know who the singer/group is? It sounds vaguely like Halko Momoi and Under 17 but thats not her.

;_;
Well there's like at least three more seasons of JoJo's to go though so if they could square the money for that though this nonsense than that'd be swell. But this is probably going to net them TONS of money so they can work on more failed projects like Ben-to!
She's hit or miss to me. I like Kirihirake! Gracie☆Star but nothing else she's done on the Neptunia games really stands out. GO→Love&Peace (by Ayane, who's also from 5pb) > anything I've heard from nao.Nao eh? More like Nooo amirite. >_<

The only thing that kinda bothers me is the protag's eyes. Looks way different than how the manga does it, but In Brain Base We Trust!
Not abiding by the three episode rule. Oh deary deary me.I watched the first episode. It was awful.
Yes.I was under the impression they get run over by a car. Right?
And thus this meme finally comes to an end. This doesnt quite sound right. the songs are not harmonious with each other.
I honestly thought this was a DTL post at first. Is Cuticle Detective Inaba worth watching? I only heard of it because of this gif

And I honestly thought this was a kayos post at first. What's a Turkish delight? I feel like I've heard the name of that before...
Sport an easter avatar for the weekend.month is almost over... maybe a new avatar. maybe a dude this time to mix things up.
ACE already rocks!

Jun Fukuyama, Mamoru Miyano, Yoshimasa Hosoya, Yuuki Kaji, Daisuke Ono, Nana Mizuki.
Woooooooow!
I wish to get excited, but I can't. I blame the SHAFT factor.
Friendship... treaty? It'll be similar to the manga then, with the CPUs in a quasi peaceful relationship rather than the Mortal Kombat you see in the early stages of the games.Neptunia anime synopsis said:This is Gameindustri. Beings called the Goddesses rule the countries of this unreal world. The four Goddesses govern four states: Planeptune, Lastation, Lowee and Leanbox. For many long years, these countries fought each other for Shares, the source of the Goddesses' power.
However, fearful that the conflict would pointlessly erode their countries' strength, the Goddesses signed a Friendship Treaty forbidding them from taking Shares by force. Under the treaty, the Goddesses and their younger sisters took a new step forward in their relations.
It was the dawn of a new, dynamic era marked by shared laughter, disputes as well as cooperation. What the future does hold in store for Gameindustri?
np. Incidentally, Tsunako (main artist for the Neptunia games) drew nao for what I believe was one of the soundtrack covers. It turned up in the Mk2 artbook anyway. This music is so upbeat and catchy its ridiculous. Thank you!

Hopefully it'll have a budget surpassing Gurren Lagann. Lol.
It's more like I can't get excited because the trailer does zilch to get me excited about new Madoka beyond the fact that it's saying "HEY THERE'S NEW MADOKA coming on", except not really because a huge portion of that trailer looks copy-paste'd from the show so we didn't see anything actually new apart from some neat art at the beginning.sounds like you can only blame yourself if you can't get excited because of such a childish reason.

Thank you ducky. You are the best.
Thats what they want you to think. They will end with aending. Duh.conquest
That was the episode where I very nearly quit watching the show. And when people say S2 sucked, I wonder if they mean to insinuate that S1 did not, because it most definitely did.
Why despair? Even if the current season doesn't appeal to you, that's just more time to watch past shows that may appeal to you! Or more time to do other things entirely. So since the new anime season is approaching I figure I'd try and keep up with the new AnimeGAF thread after falling to wayside some 200+ pages ago in the winter thread.
After finally reaching the end, a combination of the OP and all the following posts have managed to kill any enthusiasm for the new series or catching up on my backlog.
Of course, I could just stop whining and watch something enjoyable like Sketchbook again...

unless they plan on silly adventures comedy during the whole anime , there must be a conflict somewhere planned . Did they reveal any potential antagonist from the games yet ?
