LOS ANGELES, May 17 (PRNewswire) -- Square Enix Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan, "Square Enix") a leading developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software including two of the world's most popular franchises FINAL FANTASY and DRAGON QUEST, today announced plans for the FINAL FANTASY Crystal Chronicles series to be developed for the Revolution, Nintendo's next-generation console currently in development.

The Revolution's promise of seamless interactive entertainment provided by the built in Wi-Fi system caught Square Enix's attention. The company decided to join the Revolution with FINAL FANTASY Crystal Chronicles, which was originally released on Nintendo's GameCube by Game Designers Studio, Inc, an affiliate of Square Enix.

"We would like to strongly support Nintendo's next-generation networking plans," said Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix. "The Revolution may embody a new platform beyond a portable or console, which makes possible a new structure in the network gaming system, changing the ways communities are built and supported. This is the kind of direction we've envisioned, and we will challenge ourselves to provide immersive interactive content in response to what Nintendo offers."

More details regarding the new FINAL FANTASY Crystal Chronicles series are not yet determined and will be announced in the near future.

Nintendo has won SE's heart, it seems. All they need to do now is show the Revolution to the public which will generate hype which will result in sales which will prompt even more support for the system by developers such as Square Enix!

It's brilliant!

Hopefully this will be available at or near launch to help the system out in Japan. And if it does well, maybe SE can bring over more content.

Can't wait for NEXT GEN Bucket d00d ACKSHUN!!!1!!11

Correction: Bucket bitch.

After putting over 120 hours into a single file of FF:CC on the GameCube (we've started yet another one) with two others, this is laudable.

'Course they did mention this at the press conference.

I hope they do keep the bucket. I also hope they flesh out the combo system some more, keep the annual progression scheme and the plot/lore delivery how it was. Worked excellent for it's style of game.

Oh, and I hope it's as gorgeous as FF:CC was on the Gamecube.

The bucket was an annoyance. No one wanted to carry the bucket in my group of friends. Everyone hated being on bucket bitch duty.

PLEASE no bucket. It was an amazing game otherwise.

By the way, looks like Nintendo is getting the same level of support the GCN did, so I don't see how SE has defected to either MS (FFXI port + "promise of more games") and Nintendo (FF:CC2 + "promise of more games")

Yes, yes and YES. Someone understands the genius of FF:CC. Our little group loved it way more than Zelda: FSA, even though we greatly enjoyed that title too.

I also hope they keep the same composer (Kumi Tanioka). FF:CC was one of the best soundtracks this generation, along with Katamari Damacy and Space Channel 5: Special Edition.

I really loved FF:CC, but I can't see how anyone could like the bucket. It just slowed down the game, and became an annoyance for one of the players. It slowed them down. They had to pick it up and move it around for the group.

I rather just have it where you can't go past the edge of the screen. Or just have one member automatically generate a "bubble" instead of him having to carry a bucket for it.

Geezus people, you give the bucket to the person with the map. It functions as a workable lottery without you even having to do anything.

EDIT: Been out of town for the weekend and just realized that my avatar is still Wall Guy ...

FF:CC is probably my favorite co-op game. I like it a lot, but you already knew that, Dragona.

Four Swords is good too, some really great times, especially on some of the more offbeat stages. It didn't hold up as well, or make the impact that CC did though.

Either way, I just want updates to both, the gems amoungst the Snowblind-esque filth in terms of multiplayer dungeon crawlers. But my co-op days with friends seem to be coming to a close, so I'd have to consider with online play before purchasing now.

Jack said Square had canned FF3 DS or something.

Plus the bucket was even worse if you didn't have 4 players but just 2.

At least your first attacks with 4 people could be combos. But with just 2 people, one guy is attacking while another is setting down the bucket and running up to join the fight.

Ehhhh?!

Crystal Chronicles on Revo

Oh. Nevermind then.

He said that Square isn't actually working on FFIII right now and that they're not serious about the DS.

Being serious here. Huh? That's the whole reason I was going to buy a DS. So what's it coming out on now? Glad I got the Famicom version last month, then, if it's canned AGAIN.

Producing shit games is pretty on course for modern day Square, though. No big shocker there. Just drop me another FFXI expansion, a next-gen Crystal Chronicles with online play and make room for Enix & friends to carry the company.

Oh, and let Matsuno get back to Ogre games please. :( God, are they just gonna sit on those forever?

Dern right. The Xbot in me will say that FFXI > FF:CC, but neither match the magnitude of outright saying FFXII or FFXIII would be on something other than PS2/PS3.

Wow, an online enabled Gamecube game. zzzz

Expect a lot more of these. Looks like Nintendo is going to re-release online enabled GCN games to correct the mistakes they made with cube.

I never thought Nintendo would fail so bad they would have to repeat a generation.

FFCC was NEVER online to begin with. And besides, it was basically built for multiplayer. Adding online gaming will only rise the quality and fun factor

FFXIII ->PS3
FF Crystal Chronicles -> Revolution
FF XI ->Xbox360

Square Enix surely knows how to keep everyone happy :D :lol :lol

Ugh...Crystal Chronicles is so....meh. I didn't even buy this game for my GC, and I'm jonesing for an rpg. I'd have preferred a Mana game, OR.....VAGRANT FUCKING STORY!!! If they want to port a meaningless side-story to the Rev, then give us a Vagrant Story. It wasn't that successful on the PS1, but it could find a nice home on a Nintendo system IMO. Jesus, at least FFTactics or something. Crystal Chronicles is more underwhelming than FFXI for the 360. :( PEACE.

We're only waiting for the World of Mana system confirmation to see who will be the happiest though :)

Can't say how much was totally factual and how much was part of the DS-bashing spirit, but Vestal basically said that Square Enix padded the list with things like FF III for PR purposes but hadn't actually gotten around to it yet, then said maybe Kawazu would get to it since Romancing Saga remake was complete.

Considering that much of the remaking of FFIII had to be already done for WSC, and that most 2D DS games aren't afraid to look a lot like GBA games, I doubt the development time would be ginormous, though.

wow

An online enabled GCN game. Expect a lot more of these enhanced ports. REV is looking more and more like an online GCN with DVD playback.

I can not believe Nintendo failed so bad they are repeating last gen.
