Square Enix launches Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary "News" page.

Well, after the FF7 "Remake", I don't know if I want Square to touch any older FF anymore.
For me, remakes, or reimaginations, reboots, or sequels pretending to be remakes, etc. are their own thing, a whole different experiences that cover already familiar material, and I don't consider that as "touching, or ruining the original".

FF9 is one of my most favorite games ever, but frankly, I was never the kind of a person that considered it as some perfect, immaculate, and untouchable thing that no one should ever try making a modern version.

I don't expect of any remake to be as good, or to surpass the original - I just want them to be enjoyable, and to let me experience the familiar old game in a different, modern way.

Probably the worst news I've woken up to in a while.

People gonna start pretending they like the game now as we get slop that will damage the games legacy. I'd rather they just didn't touch it.

Its a great game but I dont know how excited I am to replay it. It will really come down to the graphics, art style, and QoL stuff. Will definitely get it at some point.

Definitely looking forward to playing FFIX, but I imagine convincing modern gamers to play something with this level of mishmash between the background art and the character models would be an uphill battle.

Nope. It's going to need some good smeary filtering to get rid of all the jaggies and AI.

I mean is the guy on the stairs just floating in midair, because that is what it looks like.

Also, no VA is another death sentence for modern gaming.

The game I wanted to love but never could..
Same here. Battle system is clunky, world feels drab and it comes off as generic. I forced my way through it on release and my only memory of it was the ending which was done really well and tried to play through it again a few years ago but found it to drop off after the forest in the mist. But hey, different folks different strokes eh. I think a remake could make things a lot more enjoyable and realize certain potential more though.

Yep, they're gonna show off the remake on Wednesday. This basically feels like a soft confirmation. Timing's too coincidental.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic, because there are plenty of legit worst-looking games that have become incredibly popular.

Like, I'm not saying something like Vampire Survivors or even Hollow Knight is objectively or subjectively bad for their aims, but I think most would say FF XI has a much more ambitious art style and technical visual complexity, even if it's "messier" because it's lower resolution.

But the rumor is, they're remaking the game anyhow, so complaints about aliasing and whatnot from the original won't apply.

Watch them do everything but a remake.

The rumors have been leaning towards a remake, and if a "smaller" game like Romancing SaGa 2 can get a remake, I don't see why FF IX can't, considering it'd sell even better (as there is much more nostalgia for it).

In fact if there is a IX remake it's probably in the style of the RS2 one.

My guess is you're gonna see the remake in the next three months. The real question is, Switch 2 Direct, a future Nintendo Direct, or Summer Games Fest?

Switch 2 Direct. The timing's too much a coincidence IMO. Plus, it's probably the best place to reveal it.

Like it feels 99% likely to be there on Wednesday.

Hopefully this is the year they actually announce the long rumored remake.
I'd be fine with a more straightforward remake or a FF7 Remake style "re-imagining". Though if they go with FF7 route I hope they keep it down to 1 game.

Well there is stuff like the Moguri mod on PC which helps a lot with making the characters blend in better with the background

Those aren't Remakes and is why half the FF fandom don't like them. If they up the graphics and just add QoL and nothing else FFIX would be amazing.
Yes, this. I don't understand why someone wants a "remake" to a nearly perfect game that already exists. Just go replay it. No need to mess up what already works.

FF XVI was fully voiced and has the most boring, bland soulless flavour text ever. It was another negative trait of an already incredible awful game. FF IX is good as is.

Agree 100%, but even so, VA is required for modern gaming audiences. FFX is good, and I enjoyed Remake/Rebirth VA for the most part, but I just don't they can get away with not including it. If they don't I personally won't mind, but I just don't see it happening if it's anything more than a simple port.

The Moguri Mod is magical and perfect and would probably be better than any remaster they tried to do. So I hope it's a remake rather than a remaster since the Moguri is already so darn amazing.

As I said in one of the other threads, I would expect them to do 8, 10, 12, 13 remasters too in the not too distant future. But it looks like 9 is first.

Not me, I still think the original is a plotless, tedious mess! Upgrading the graphics isn't going to do much when that was its main redeeming quality in the first place.

This game has a special place in my heart. I cried an unhealthy amount of tears as a kid when this game ended. It was like saying goodbye to my friends. I left their world, now everything is just a memory. The feeling of that last song when it played summed up exactly what I was feeling.

I will accept any form of remake, remaster, or reimagining or this game. I only want to see my them again in new perspective.

Yessss!!!!!!!

You have gotta be really media illiterate if you think that. The plot makes more sense than both the other PS1 FF games but aight.

FFIX's plot is garbage. A shapeless, rambling episodic mess. You may be charmed by the characters, but personally I found them twee and uninterested.
In fact, I dislike its whole "hi-do-ho" fairytale thing.

And don't get me started on slow as molasses and twice as dull battle-system.

Its got a couple of neat ideas (the floating island is inspired, even though it hides the lamest "superboss" in FF history), the first-disk flows excellently and is a great example of onboarding, but after that... all downhill.

Look. I've played the game through several times, so my opinion is not hastily arrived at. Feel free to disagree, but I promise you my criticisms are not unfair.

Before I judge you for having bad taste. Opinion on FF X?
