Square Enix is also looking into entering the blockchain and NFT games segment.

I am interested too. Great to hear Square is interested.
I bought bitcoins recently. I am trying to make more money, i want to buy a Xbox Series X and a 4k TV.

I feel too old when people are talking about blockchain and NFT

I literally had to google what's the meaning of those two words

I really miss the good old times when all that we used to have was an game magazine and a cartridge that we blow to make it works.

Blockchain and NFTs will kill gaming, it will turn games more into a "job" than it already is. it will also lead to always online for games that utilize it.

The industry is dead already, this will just kill it off for good. (by the industry is dead i mean in terms of quality games that dont treat you like a dog)

Just to explain what it means within this context: Square (and many other game publishers) want to build their games as platforms. Imagine Roblox times a hundred. Give gamers a platform and some tools, and they'll build the games themselves. You don't have to do much beyond that, you give those gamers/builders a cut of the money you make from pure consumers and that's it. Easy money and super easy to scale.

Blockchain is fundamental for the future online content. It gives more ownership to the player.
It might be more but the ownership is still in the hands of the platform holders of the chain. The TopShot terms and conditions has a lot of things that you can't do.

This is basically people trading hats in Team Fortress 2 except it uses a lot more energy and hardware. It isn't anything new or exciting at all.

I'm still confused whenever I see blockchain/NFT in gaming. Is this something where I play the game and they give me money for playing it? If I have this right, why would they give me money? Pretty sure I have this wrong.

There is probably also going to be a unique id tattoo onto your hat but the fundamental design doesn't have to be unique

Can anyone post a link on how 'Block Chain' works for games? What is the story there?
I honestly don't get it. But it's a way to verify that you have the only real copy of a digital item basically.

So unless someone else can explain it to me, it's a way to auction off DLC and microtransactions with real world money. Like a Diablo 3 launch auction house on steroids.

In the context of gaming, it's 100% negative for consumers. It might be a little valuable for content creators of trinkets or mods who want to fleece whales.

When they start making games using real world terms that sound like battle mechanics in JRPGs, it's time to plug the N64 back in.

Square enix should start mimicking Capcom and make great games to sell some games, their current releases are a bit trash not gonna lie.

Bravely Second
Dungeon Encounters
Voice of Cards
Guardians of the Galaxy
Actraiser

That's just this year. Not counting stuff I don't play from 2021 like Endwalker, Life is Strange, World Ends With You 2, Circuit Superstars.

Capcom has a lot more of a AAA feel consistently, but I've enjoyed a lot of these AA releases from SQEX this year.

Those games are good and life is strange is one of my favorite games this year, but they also need to make money I don't see any of those games selling more than 3m-4m copies. Most of those won't even sell 2m.

These are the current limits. The rise of player expectations will further increase the offered terms by the developers.

In simple terms Blockchain is system that makes digital files finite. also transferable between users in the system without centralized authority. so the content can't be taken away from users.
For example if PT was distributed in a blockchain system. Konami wouldn't be able to stop players from selling the game digitally to others.

What's your take on why game companies are interested in this?

But somewhere is a server with the digital contents? A copy of pt is on every computer doing a hash of the content?

So... we got some great games with no strings attached, and you complain because of that?

I'm not complaining, I'm saying they need to make money developing better games like Capcom and not all the other shit they're trying (and failing) Capcom made a fortune this year with single player games, square enix is very capable of that too.

People are willing to pay more money for items with verifiable digital ownership, censorship-resistance and marketplaces to trade them.

I see this as a marketing thing for the publishers. If they can make things look more shiny by being able to say its a limited edition, only 10k made etc, it will drive up the cost this increasing their own profit. There is no way they are going to just open up their games for people to freely make money on it.

Stupid buzzword and stupid tech that's a gigantic waste of energy and time.

Anything that a game maker would want to do with the blockchain is already doable by your run of the mill MMO, you just need an account system and a centralized server with a database.
With that you can make objects unique and tradeable (for real money or not) all you want. Real money auction houses are not some newfangled concept. No need to burn forests worth of electricity over it.

Like "real life" art market, it will be just an easy way to launder money or converting them in a different form of value.

If it doesn't affect their HD Games and MMO business and is entirely separate then I don't have to care, yeah? It would be a problem if they started moving everything towards that direction, but then they didn't try that with GaaS despite committing to it years prior.

I am going to shill this site, you can make good money on farms, it's new token on fairly new blockchain.

Huckleberry

Not a financial advice, but I am getting close to 500 USD per month, with just 2k investment.

For sure! Better to have a DLC that lives outside the game that I can trade with others than one I can't though
