Further Details
Paramount has announced the collector's edition of Star Trek: First Contact which stars Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner and LeVar Burton. This new two-disc special edition will be available to own from the 15th March next year, and should set you back around $19.99 in total. As well as a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and English Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the first disc will house an audio commentary with director Jonathan Frakes and screenwriters Brannon Braga and Ronald D. Moore and a text commentary by Michael and Denise Okuda. The second disc will include a Jerry Goldsmith: A Tribute featurette, a Legacy of Zefram Cochrane featurette, a First Contact: The Possibilities featurette, a Unimatrix One featurette, a featurette on the Borg Queen and a Design Matrix featurette. Also included will be a First Contact Production section that includes featurettes on The Story, The Misile Silo, The Deflector Dish, The Art of First Contact, another feature on the designs of the Enterprise as well as a making of documentary. Completing the package will be a Scene Deconstruction which features the Borg Queen Assembly, the Escape Pod launch and the Borg Queen's demise, storyboards, a production gallery and both the theatrical trailer and teaser trailer. The only notable exception is deleted scenes. Our thanks to Gustavo from TrekWeb for the heads up. We're also awaiting confirmation on the inclusion of DTS

The Ron Moore and Braga commentary will be great if the Generations one is anything to go on. Braga is an idiot who doesn't know anything about Star Trek and Moore is one of the best TNG writers ever so the Generations track was great.

No deleted scenes isn't much of a surprise because if I remember correctly, First Contact didn't have much cut out at all; especially since they got a PG-13.

Let's just hope the transfer isn't screwed to all hell like the new Generations transfer was.

Apparently, there was a Q scene in the movie at some point. I don't know if it was cut at the script stage or if it was actually filmed, but I've never really been able to figure out where it would fit in the story.

Excellent. Hopefully Insurrection and Nemesis will follow later this year. :)

How exactly was the Generations SE transfer messed up?

I'd like to know too. I haven't seen it yet, but the older DVD release was awful. The new one can't possibly be worse.
Also, I don't see myself buying this since First Contact has already been announced for HD-DVD launch.

The CE Generations is finally an anamorphic transfer (the original disc was not anamorphic and just 4:3 letterboxed), but it's got major sharpness issues. Some may not notice it, but it really annoys me, even on my 32" standard definition TV. Here's a paragraph from a review of the disc on "The Digital Bits":

Sadly, if there's one knock with this 2-disc release, it's the video quality. The film is thankfully (and for the first time) presented in anamorphic widescreen video on DVD. The colors are lush and completely accurate, and contrast is absolutely perfect with deep, dark blacks. The problem, however, is that the video has an overly crisp and digital look... and by overly I mean annoyingly so. Edges tend to jag and shimmer, and there's really no reason for it other than artificial edge-enhancement applied after the fact. Those of you with small, analog TVs will probably never notice it, but if you're watching on a big, widescreen anamorphic display or a video projector, it's definitely going to get on your nerves. Take a look at Worf's brandolier or the detailed rock faces on Veridian III at the end of the film. Ugh. The film is absolutely watchable, but you high-end videophiles are going to be ringing your hands.

I mean, we're talking first-gen PS2 jags. At least, so it seems to me.
