Apple Trailers version in 1080p
Hopefully that works for people. Get it while it's hot and all the feels are feely.
Man, super hyped nowI found a way to save the iTunes version to my computer. Those who have wget installed, enter this in Terminal (on your computer or whatever command-line equivalent you might have):
Code:wget -O swtfa-358fz9G-tlr1_h1080p.mov --user-agent="iTunes/11.0.5" http://movietrailers.apple.com/movies/lucasfilm/starwarstheforceawakens/swtfa-358fz9G-tlr1_h1080p.mov
This will save the full video file (not some reference file) in the default directory. Enjoy!
Going through the whole thing frame by frame, what struck me is that every shot has film grain. It is absolutely not a pristine, perfect image, but full of texture and life. Looks glorious.
Yeah, if anything, Abrams makes competent films. I don't doubt this will be reviewed well and that it'll make bank, I just doubt whether or not I'll end up liking it as much as I want to. Like, how much of this movie is really going to be a throwback? Super 8 was half a good movie, half a snoozefest, and it felt like he tried his hardest to copy Spielberg without hitting the right notes at the right time. I felt like his Star Trek films used nostalgia in the worst way by taking large chunks of random stuff from the franchise and trying to have it hide the terrible plot, weak villains, and the complete shift in tone and philosophy from the source material. He's got a track record of letting me down so I'm pretty cautious with his films.

I got some feels and I'm not even a Star Wars fan.

Might those be the studio lights reflecting off the armor?

That shot with Luke and R2...

There is some reaching going on all over this thread.Visual parallel?
Yup. And what I nags at me is the similar nostalgia laced feeling in these trailers. Normally I'd be 100% on board with something like that, especially with Star Wars, but with this being an Abrams film...This is precisely how I felt about the Star Trek movies. Everyone I know says they were good but I felt they were just hamfisted nostalgia callback after callback in hopes you forget about the super lame plot you're being fed. Oh wait Leonard Nemoy cameo lol!
I fully expect there to be some super stupid callbacks in this, like them falling into a trash compactor and there being a trash monster (so the audience can go LOL I remember dis!).
Looked like Mustafar to me...
