Yeah, I think this is going to be rather divisive. It seems like a way for J. J. to focus on Rey as the "new Luke" thrown into the hero's cycle and only she and her friends can save the galaxy, but it comes off as a retread.

Oops, you're totally right and not wrong again based on this excellent example of terrible imagery.

I always found it frustrating because I knew that if I were a kid in the prequel era, I would have never liked Star Wars. I was an iconoclastic kid and even at 10 years old, I hated pandery cartoon characters making fart jokes, badly acted romance, etc.
Why...
Why is BB 8 sooooooooooooo adorable?!?!?!?!
💘
That's what I am worried about. I really like the trailer and will most likely love the movie. But it seems like a retrend to me..
Its literally "The Hero's Journey". Look it up. Its been in writing since the dawn of fucking language.
The same story could be broken down for the character in your avatar. If you are worried about this film retreading A New Hope, then you my friend don't realize how many things have been retreading since the dawn of written language.
I agree with you there. Episode III had lot of beautiful shots in there. I really loved Kashyyk look in that film..

Sure I exaggerated but come on, there's not enough space in my space opera. Yes there are cool sword fights and a few neat battle set-pieces. But for the most part it's just dull, stakeless dialogue. There is always something going on in New Hope and Empire and RotJ, there are loooong swaths of all the prequels where there's just absolutely NOTHING happening.
But you can have a hero's journey without touching on the same basic plot points of New Hope-RotJ.
Wow man, I am allowed to criticize it. I am looking forward to the movie, and I know all about The Hero Journey. No need to be an asshole to me.
Stanley Kubrick BTFOSaid no one ever. That's about as generic of a shot as I can imagine.
I mean.. it's symmetrical. An amateur photographer could tell you why it's factually uninteresting.
And based off of 2 teasers, less than 3 minutes long, we can assume this film is touching on the same plot points as A New Hope/RotJ....Gotcha.
So it really is a Skywalker family story light/dark struggle again. The girl looks fantastic. Great face.
Ehhh, people can bitch about ROTS shots as they please however the opening sequence to ROTS is still pretty epic to me. Especially after the the fighters fly below the starship and you see the scale of the battle going on.

Eh, there was still OG trilogy to adore and we mostly hate the prequels too. Some people have nostalgia towards PT, but they often realize it's because they haven't seen them in years and don't want to shatter the illusion that they weren't that bad.
Honestly, most people my age think when they hear oof Star Wars they only think of 1-6 if they didn't see the series, others go straight for 4-6.
Stanley Kubrick BTFO
This must be a joke. Patio with sci fi buildings. No meaning.![]()
Oops wrong again.
the prequels do have great shots. People just blindly hate on the entirety of them without looking at the positives.
Anybody who thinks that the prequels have nothing of value at all, that they were just George Lucas throwing silly shit at the screen for 6 hours, that there was no artistry or care put into it....
Just read the ring theory I guess, I don't know. That details things better than I could.
Artistry? Camera A. Camera B. Walk to window.Anybody who thinks that the prequels have nothing of value at all, that they were just George Lucas throwing silly shit at the screen for 6 hours, that there was no artistry or care put into it....
While I agree that a lot of people use Plinkett as a crutch for their own lack of an argument, it's not like people were praising the prequels before he came out with that. People were already commenting on the bland direction and empty visuals.I find it really bizarre, quite frankly, when people can't even admit that the prequels had some beautiful imagery because of bad compositing in Episode II and shot-reverse-shot during expository sequences that nobody noticed until Plinkett mentioned it but which yet now is COMPLETELY HORRIFYING. Meanwhile RotJ continues to get a free pass because of nostalgia despite it being absolutely visually bland.

"Let go of your hate."
Not our fault you can't back up your arguments.

True, but people still kind of are. I think GAF just has a lot of extremes on both the Prequel supporter and hater sides. I know plenty of people that like ROTS, but hate the first two.People were pretty positive about ROTS though.
People were pretty positive about ROTS for a while, though. And it still has an 80% approval on RT.
To be honest when he said "the first two seconds" I took that quite literally and wasn't thinking about the downed Star Destroyer, just a shot of sand dunes, which have been done a billion times in Star Wars.
As it is, I think that shot of Anakin is pretty beautiful. The lighting is great, the set design is great, and I get a very good feel of what Anakin's internal conflict is like at that moment, staring out over the cityscape of Coruscant thinking about his conflicting loyalties, his nightmares about his dying wife, the toll of the war. The way the light slowly come on as Padme interrupts Anakin's brooding is also a nice touch which isn't captured in a still photo. ROTS is filled with a lot of scenes that use lighting for symbolism and mood, particularly evening and twilight shots. It's a very beautiful film and people ragging on it for visuals of all things just seem blind to me.
That particular shot immediately connected with me when I was 15 and it still does now.

Really looking forward to seeing what Luke looks like.
Me too for the most part, I was just pointing it out.![]()

Anchorman 2 scored higher than Anchorman. Your argument is invalid.
