Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

You started in Alpha sector which had 1-10 planet levels, then there was Beta sector [11-20], then Gamma [21-30] and then Xeta [31-40], so Alpha was tier 1 and Xeta tier 4.

Man Starbound looks like a lot of fun and I can't wait to get it. I personally am going to wait a few months because not only do I have other stuff to play at the moment, I want it to be a little closer to a final build before I get it.

Is the patch supposed to be today for sure? I'm holding off on using the beacon to fight the UFO because I don't want to have to build it again ;(
If all goes well we could have in tonight. Their chat updates on IRC makes it sound like they're nearly complete with rebalancing the last few tiers of items. Worst case it comes out tomorrow morning instead. So yeah hold off on the beacon, just mine the shit out planets and stock up on resources and store them planetside so you can hopefully access them with your new character later to night or tomorrow. Just make sure you jot down the X,Y coordinates for the planet you store them on.

After stocking up on so much stuff. Building materials, ores, furniture, food, etc. I have like 8 chest, 9 lockers, a few crates, a fridge and other various containers full of stuff and it would really be nice if they implemented an auto sort system and the ability to name containers so you can mouse over them and see what their name is.
Like my Avian Items locker or my Weapons Locker and so on. Also the 16 item limit is a bit silly, especially when teeny tiny locker thats like 2x2 can hold the same as a giant crate thats 4x3 or a giant cabinet thats 4x6.

Why keep the item you need to fight the boss until after the patch and not fight the boss and keep the stuff he drops for after the patch?
You could of course, fight the boss, keep his stuff and then build another beacon

Nobody has any guarantee that worlds will be safe, and I personally don't think they will be.
If they are though, it won't matter if you store your items on a local world or on a server.

Also anyone else find it weird that enemies have levels but you don't? I believe they are changing it to colors or skulls like in WoW now though, which will be way less confusing.

Huh, that's interesting. I thought it was odd that Hylotl starter swords seemed to be the same as Glitch swords. Turns out that the game seems to start you off with a Glitch sword on accident. There actually is a separate Hylotl sword, but the code isn't pointed at it.
I assume this has already been discovered/there is a reason for it, I just thought it was interesting.

We need to be able to name our ships, and when people beam aboard it displays the name similar to how it displays planetary names when you beam down. If for no other reason than it's cool to name shit.

Yeah my brother bought it for me the day before one of my finals and 5 days before my last final. Luckily I found out very quickly that there was already a progress-killing patch so that helped me quit until I was done with the last final.

I've finished the GAF crafting bench and it looks like it's working as intended!
Just need to code in the rest of the hats i've made after the patch and i'll be ready to share it with you guys.
If there's anyone else who want's their own modded items to be craftable let me know and i'll make it so they will work with the bench.

I've stayed up long enough waiting for it, now I'm going to play a bit of Euro Truck Sim 2 and then I'm going to bed. Starbound will have to wait until tomorrow night.
