yay. exciting
Cosmic horror gate?
I hope for a really big Endboss where you need a whole server to beat him.
Every time I see this thread get bumped I hope it finally released out of early access, but it's always some underwhelming update for me. :/
I wonder if this will ever make it to ps4.

The reason Starbound is taking us so long is that we're trying to build an engine that allows us to do some very exciting things in the future. Before that engine is complete we make compromises and include content for the early access players that is somewhat placeholder (current quests as an example), that content allows us to experiment with new engine features and gives existing players new toys to play with whilst they wait. But going on all the time along side that is the development of a very complex engine, being developed with goals in mind that are much larger in scope than the goals I believe Terraria is trying to achieve.
The Starbound engine is almost done and already the potential of the engine is being explored by modders and players. Things like our scripted interface system, scripted AI, scripted weapons, scripted projectiles, scripted quests, scripted objects are being used to create extremely unique and interesting content. There's a massive time deficit that goes into creating those systems and making sure they're easy to work with and modify, but once they're done they will lead to an absolute content explosion and I think people are going to really enjoy how we use those systems.
Almost nothing is hard coded in Starbound, its almost as much a platform as it is a game. Were making it incredibly easy to add content, we'll be opening that up on steam workshop and we'll be using those systems ourselves to great effect post 1.0 release.
<Tiy> Next update is likely the colony update, colonies, some new biome content, other bits and pieces
<Tiy> update after that is the combat update, very revamped combat, special attacks as secondaries on weapons, scriptable items (finally boomerangs, homing rockets, other interesting things), new monster types, some other bits and bobs
<Tiy> update after that is vehicle update, vehicles that persist in the world, multiple seats, moving platforms, some other bits and bobs
<Tiy> update after that is the story update, we're producing missions throughout all these updates, they'll all be tied together, all of the current awful sidequests will be replaced, and youll have a storyline that gives the game a lot of context
<Tiy> then some polish updates, and we're more or less at 1.0 (I haven't mentioned every feature)
<Tiy> then a bunch of post 1.0 updates
Well, this is a Stable version update, those are basically serving as milestones to the 1.0 release which is the "real launch" in name only; the game is in a very playable state now and damn near everything is in... the problem seems to be feature creep because they're building the game engine to be kind of future-proof;
You can read the full comment here.
They roughly outlined what's ahead in IRC a while ago, tonight's stable release will cover the first thing on the list, though it sounds like some of the combat updates made their way in too;
So, TL;DR: They're getting there...
Any notice on what time the patch is going up?
Metadept is still at the office implementing the patch. It's 4 am there.
Right this second (04:08) he said on IRC "waiting on yet another build so that i can see whether this one works"
(04:21) "yet another versioning thing for old universes [is causing the hang up]. It's fixed, but still waiting for the build to finish. kyren and i really want to get this patch released"
Anyone actually able to get the client to launch after updating?
Mine just says launching and stops there.
In your steamapps/common/starbound/prereqs folder there are some vc_redist.exes. I installed the one for x64 and it works now.
works directly from the .exe. Can't get it to launch from steam though.
I think gafserver just decided to choke.
AH ok, thought it could have been on my end since the game crashes when I try to rejoin.

So, is the underground exploration still boring, or did they manage to make it a tad more interesting?
This will be my first time playing ones of these games on a public server. I figured it might be more fun knowing that the universe is filled with other people. Is there anything in particular that I should know when playing on a server like this?
I'm assuming you meant the GAF server I have running? Its actually a private server for GAF (and approved friends).
Generally, the server is there to just casually play with others, and show off your building skills. As for particulars:
1) Be respectful of other players' builds. Don't start changing/destroying things you did not create yourself.
2) Don't leave anything important on the server worlds. If you find a cool item, store it on your ship.
3) Don't be an ass.
4) Finally, for the love of god, do not under any circumstances post the bloody server login details to the public (directories, other forums, etc).
Yep! I assume yours is the official unofficial GAF server. That all sounds alright to me, and you don't have to worry about me posting the details. I don't know why anyone would want to post them to the public, but I guess it's the internet. Thanks for doing this, by the way!
Had it happen when I was running the official unofficial GAF server for Terraria. People were blowing crap up left and right, the world was a crater filled wasteland.
Does anyone know how I can find the material I need to update my matter manipulator?
The newest update is stable?
