Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

I'm quite envious right now seeing these screens. This seems like my cup of tea and something I'll easily get addicted to. Too bad the medical study I was a part of solely to have money to buy games ended up getting rid of me because I had too many health issues to give reliable results...lol.

These small games are what makes gaming fun to me anymore. So glad to see the genre grow.

Is it possible to literally run around the planet? I stumbled upon this HUGE research lab filled with enemies on my left, so I started walking right for a while and now I encounter what appears to be the other side of the same research lab.

Also - is it possible to just ignore the distress beacon mission and go? I'm searching for hours now, I can't find silver ore anywhere.

As I just asked/mentioned in the Steam thread most concurrent players for an early access game by a long, long way.

Yea? thats awesome! Tiy said if the steam stuff went well they are going to be looking at getting an office. Because for those that don't know all the Dev staff currently work from home.

Really excited for the future of this game!

That tip about X is nice but its still a bit..clunky getting access to your L & R items. I have my sword and bow and if I have nothing selected (like 5 slot) I can switch between L or R..

but anything selected and only access to L.

And this bow sucks..I need to make a sniping building.

You can go onany planet any time.
My guess is that doing the quest give you access to tiers 2 planets (level 11-20). Just throwing a wild speculation, I'm as clueless as anyone else.

how do i make a crafting table

Have to take the wood you get for taking trees down, craft that into refined wood and then it should let you craft the table. Everything is layed out easy enough in the crafting menu. If you hover over the thing you want to craft it will tell you the mats.

Yeah derExperte posted this link to the all time concurrent title on Steam. Terraira is at around 90k at the highest and Starbound is over half that on its first day and early access too boot. Closest early access game I can see is Kerbal Space Program at just over 10k.

Post bellow for reference.

I can't think of any that could have been more successful. You could check http://steamgraph.net/.... Nope, sorted by peak http://steamgraph.net/index.php?action=games&sort=peak and Starbound is really high..

Thas just nasty

So question..how do you see your hunger bar? It only pops up for me if I lose some hunger. I eat and it doesn't pop up.

Also meat isn't a 100% drop with bow? I get like 1 meat every 10 mobs.

Seems like they come back over time. I could be wrong though. I haven't gone far from my camp but seem to have plenty of trees.
&Kouriozan

Thanks, ( it must be really slow to grow back naturally or I never went far from my house long enough ), still hope tree seeds will be introduced, so you can grow tree from planet x on planet y.

Might be minor spoilers about world generation, but I don't think it's anything too crazy:

I found a small settlement of friendly Florans (same race as my character). Does anyone know if they'll attack me if I take their items? They've got some good stuff I haven't even seen in the world yet.

Edit: decided to test it myself. You can
steal from settlements
freely at least as far as I can tell.

Edit2: Found some bongo drums you can play by clicking on... good stuff

do i have to use bow to get meat to drop?

Yes. But that only means you need to get the killing blow with it. It has been posted and I personally find it easier to weaken the monster with a sword first, back off and finish with the bow.

The post Froli had will help with a lot of questions people have.
Some basic tips.

Someone also mentioned that by putting 2 torches together, they give off the same heat of a campfire.

man my work day must have killed my brain or something... I don't get something and this is probably really n00bish but whatever....

so I have my sword on the left click and the bow on the right click. why is that when I right click I still do the sword attack? also it seems the only way I can get the bow to select is to use the last item in slot 6. that can't be the case can it?

sorry guys... it was a long day.

i just got a legendary club made of bones that shoots exploding bones. amazing.

oh dear, it blew my stairs up!

Wow, I have made very little progress. :lol

I'm still working on making an Iron Anvil. Can't find Iron ore for shit.

Edit: Right after I typed this I found four more ore which gave me enough.

seems thats only for dual weilding single handed weapons, weapons that are two handed (bow) will not work.

was pretty much luck, killed this big ass level 2 monster and it dropped it.

Hard as hell finishing with the bow and when i do they just drop leather

Because meat isn't a 100% drop rate. Sometimes leather will drop. Yes its still hard to finish with the bow sometimes but honestly its easier than killing the monster completely using the starting bow. A couple slashes with the sword, still keeping a bit of distance, and then keep running back and line up a killing blow with the bow. Hope this helps.

You are correct.
Trees grow back naturally.

Heh, and here I was trying not to chop too many trees and particularly not those around my spawn/camp. Considering raw wood is a source of ship fuel, from now on they're "cut down on sight".

Went to the other moon orbiting the same planet as the one I started in, it had an ecosystem of type "moon" and when I touched down, a bar with a sun icon began to go down, and my health drained when it hit zero. I take this is "heat" and I was freezing to death? At least I didn't seem so suffocate. Lots of lunar materials there, including the very soil.

Game is amazing as expected, but it's 1:30AM and I have to get a shower and go to bed or I won't be able to get up tomorrow for work.

Figured out that everyone has the same universe and each planet has coordinates that act as the seed.

Still doesn't explain why my singleplayer and multiplayer worlds are the same and things transfer between them.

Is there a way to sell or scrap stuff? I actually need pixels more than anything.

And i've just died like dunno how, had 90%, jump down to normal enemy from not that high ;\
I already had pixels for Iron chest ;\

Looks like it's the same as Terraria.
If you host a server then people will be on your "universe".
