Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

I deleted and reinstalled the local data and that didn't work, but when I deleted my 'players data' within the game data folder everything worked and is up and running! :D

I'm having a little issue with my home planet, I built a basement right below where people teleport in. The problem is people now spawn down in the basement level instead of the surface level. Anyway to fix this?

I haven't tested it properly but when I built a house next to spawn in singleplayer and had some wooden platforms above the beam-down spot I would stop on the platforms instead of going through them.

EDIT: Just tested it, nope.

So what's up with the kennel that has the dog nearby? My friend accidentally killed the dog, but I took the kennel. Anything special here?

Well, this both equally sucks and is disturbing...

Development for the game has been halted for a bit, because they're working with the authorities. Looks like some asshole was using the Starbound forums for his pedophiliac tendencies.

Wow...what? That is so unexpected.

Where's that news? And what the fuck? :(

It's on Twitter:

@Tiyuri
Delaying development to deal with a sexual predator targeting children. Just in case anyone is wondering

@Tiyuri
People asking for elaboration, we're working with authorities to deal with someone that's been using the community to target kids

Slightly better news, Tiy tweeted the delay should only be a day.

Still a horrible thing for them to deal with.

Building in the magma layer at gafworld is so time consuming, but the outcome is going to be so awesome...it's just going to take me forever to finish my building project....

Where do you sell stuff at?
I think they forgot to set the sale value of Tesla Spikes. I have about 100 of them and its worth 100,000 pixels
There is no selling mechanic yet. Currently, pixel value corresponds to how many pixels it takes to use your ship's 3D printer to replicate objects.

You stick the item in the 3D printer, it gets analyzed and destroyed but now the data is in the printer and you can use pixels to replicate as many of the item as you can afford.

Is it safe to play now? Are there going to be any more wipes?
What stage is the development at now?

It's still the very first stage of Beta. It's "safe" to play yes, no more character wipe. However, you can definitly expect universe wipe, which means that the planets in which you build your bases may get wiped. So, I would advise you to keep your stuff on your ship (ships seem to be safe for the time-being).

Windows update probably kicked in while I slept, it auto-rebooted computer.

Server back up.

For style points, you could configure the server exe as a service. It would automatically start when you reboot.

From the command line:
sc create StarboundServer binpath= "<path_to_the_executable>"

I haven't set one of these up myself, but curious to see if it works. You'd set the startup type to automatic in the services control panel.

Imagine the possibilities! A Free To Play update! Use real money to get pixels*!

*Disclaimer: This is a joke and I know it's downright insulting to even imply the developers would do this.

It all sounds great, the current progression is really boring. Can't wait for quests to be properly implemented :)

Sector X sounds downright amazing. Director Mode even more so! Can't wait for GAF Server Admin shenanigans! Potential for some crazy April Fools shit going on in the future :)

Been debating about auto-starting it on reboot. Although my method is just a tad easier.

Windows 7 (or below), I can just copy the shortcut into the STARTUP folder in the START menu.

Don't have Win8, so I don't know if they removed that folder.

Anyone else seeing Windows network issues running a local server? It works for a while and then craps out with TCP buffer full errors. I've not got anything else running (I even killed the utorrent...)

Edit: it was, of all things, my router. Power-cycled it and all is better now. Grr.

Pardon me if this is a dumb question. It probably is.

Let's say I download a mod for a custom race. What would someone else see me as who doesn't have that mod? Same for any items or weapons.

I believe the server needs to support the mod as well if it is using assets that don't exist in the game yet.

A new patch today and it seems that the server is down(?).

Yeah, because if you update your game, the server itself will not match your version until I update it on my end, so no one would be able to get on the server.

Server is updated and ready to go. Be warned, the devs did tweet earlier possible 2nd update later today, so don't get TOO comfortable.

I know that the server window spits out error messages like crazy when people with mods hop on the server, although I've never bothered to ask if the mods aren't working.

They got fuckin' Smooth McGroove to the the microphone instrument. I swear, it's like there's a little bit of everything showing up in this game. And if you don't know who Smooth McGroove is, shame on you.

Have to admit, I'm a little annoyed.

They tease a screenshot of a keybinding interface. a month or longer ago. Maybe 2 now. We wait and wait, they talk about how its coming next patch. Next patch hits, and its a do it yourself in the config file that isn't very user friendly.

I would not have a problem if they didn't tease us, and talk about a feature that should really be in the game from the get go... Maybe thats just me.

The patch that hit now sets it up where now they're just going to be throwing patch/updates at us nearly every damn day (that's their plan). If they tease us with an UI, then you know they're at least working on it. Its only a matter of time.

Hell, possible 2nd patch maybe today, so maybe we'll get the keybinding UI.

EDIT: Ah wait, just reread the update post, probably not gonna show up in the 2nd patch.

Heads up, looks like the 2nd update just hit. Server is going to be rebooted. Give it a few minutes for it to go back up.
