Starbreezes next title revealed: "The Darkness"

"Majesco announced today that they have chosen Starbreeze Studios to develop The Darkness, which will debut on next-gen consoles.

According to a release by Majesco, "A good case in point is the Swedish developer Starbreeze, which used a dynamic shadow technology to build The Chronicles Of Riddick. We hoped to use the same technology in another game based on the comic book The Darkness...And so it was a natural to package Starbreeze with The Darkness since they already have an appropriate engine and don´t have to re-invent the wheel."

Music to my ears.

Should have seen this coming really, from December 7th

Platinum Studios and Dimension Films have striked a deal to create a big screen comic book adaptation of "The Darkness". The story focuses on a 21 year old assassin who inherits a family secret? He hosts a power known as "the darkness". Coming Soon report that Majesco are also in the process of making a video game out the popular comic book.

Another great game/crappy movie tie-in?

Woohoo!

Can't wait till developers start showing their next-gen stuff off.
The wait won't be much longer now. Expect a lot of infos on next gen games (and engines) before the end of january and the weeks leading to GDC where lots of stuff will be on display.

Darkness! Darkness is spreadin'! Oh Charlie Murphy, hyah hyah hyah, what did the five fingers say to the face?

SLAP!

Yeah but that will be mostly Xenon stuff.

You don't see that hideous costume much anyway. The Darkness (which is Marc Silvestri's rip-off of an old DC Comics character whose name escapes me at the moment) is about a mafioso named Jackie Estacado. He's a hitman and he loves his women. He finds out that he's heir to a power called the Darkness, which in the comic are shown as a never-ending horde of shadow demons at his command. IIRC it means he's immortal, but for comedic effect, he can't have sex or he'll die.

The Darkness can only come out at night or in the shadows though, and do his dirty work for him while making stupid jokes. His arch-nemesis in the beginning was sort of an "anti-darkness" female angel that ended up possessing his step-sister (iirc) and then her mother.

It was a fun comic at first but pretty much went nowhere after a few years. (Sort of like how Witchblade has ALWAYS been.)

You mostly see Estacado wearing a suit:

hopefully Starbreeze will leave it that way. After Enclave and Riddick, I defintely have faith they can make a good game out of this license.

It will be Xenon stuff because Xenon is the only next gen console developers know enough about to actually work on. But a lot of the new engines are done with portability in mind since the first line of code.

EA had better not go anywhere near StarBreeze or the Collective.

Resistance is Futile!

The Collective has made an EA game before. They will be assilmilated.

Eidos is located within the same geographic area as EA. They will be assilmilated.

StarBreeze has talent. They will be assilmilated.

Was this official? Did Majesco say anything?

Nothing I could find on the wires or Majesco's site, or Starbreeze's site for that matter. Who knows, I'm off to vacation in like three hours anyway...

DFS.
