StarCraft: Ghost moved to Next Gen?

the product catalog that comes in WOW has a page for Starcraft: Ghost, but it says 'Coming to Next-Generation Game Consoles'. So are they confusing it with this generation or next generation?

I know that there has been some chagnes in the game since Swinging Ape has taken over, but I wonder if they plan on just killing the current game and starting over.

I noticed this as well and would love an answer.

Surely they can't mean the current consoles. Anyone referring to this generation as next-gen still needs to be shot.

Well, to be fair, when SC Ghost was first announced, this gen WAS still occasionally called the 'next gen.'

you think they would have 'Coming soon to Xbox, Playstation 2, and Gamecube' with logos below like they do on their website for the game.

Well...that's stupid. Maybe they shoudl look up the differences between 'current' and 'next'.

Seems like the game's development has just been a mess. Didn't they boot one developer off the project and replace them with another one? Did they have anything playable at this year's E3?

If the game is still 1-2 years from completion, then perhaps they are better off moving platforms.

Maybe it's no longer coming to the three consoles and they haven't decided yet which one to cancel... :lol

If the game isn't coming for current generation consoles, I can think of better ways of announcing it than with an unclear hint in a product catalog.

It was originally developed by Nihilistic Software, then they were 'removed' from the project, and Swinging Ape Studios took over. It was playable at E3, but it was really bad. Painful controls and dated gameplay (original release was scheduled before splinter cell)

Pretty much anything any original titles that would otherwise be coming out after Q2 05 is (or should) be getting moved to next gen consoles. Take a look at the release schedule after April '05 on any console. It's pretty barren, other than the usual Madden-type stuff.

What will happen is that the bigger publishers will publish their sports and licensed crap across both current and next-gen platforms, while everything else will be transitioning over, especially original IPs.

It should be moved to the next-gen IMO. It would probably do a lot better in sales.

Besides, didn't Swingin Ape just start redoing the game fairly recently?

Is Ray Gresko still there? Hmmm from the webpage it seems not. Man, I remember when people thought this company was going to whip ass. Now much like Double Fine, they do basically nothing.

Can't remember.. but I played it at E3 2003.. If this one ends up next-gen, then it'll have been in development for a long long time.

It looks like the game is going to get cancelled anyway. Wait for an official press release before trusting a poorly worded advertisement.

That's not saying much. The period after April usually IS pretty barren until September, and why would you be expecting what's being planned for next holiday season to be fully announced and on the schedule NOW? It rarely ever is.

It is way more sparse than usual next year. Games are usually announced 12-18 months before release. We would have pretty good visibility by now on next year's major releases if it was a normal year.

The game's not going to be cancelled and as far as I know it's still coming this generation. They're moving from an SGI development environment to Macintosh or vice-versa for Ghost, so that's one of the reasons this turnaround by Swingin Ape will take awhile.

not really. i remember planning out the "games of 2004" feature last year at gamespy and being hard-pressed to come up with a lot of definite winners. you start hearing way more about new games in the month leading up to E3. it's pretty normal right now. publishers don't want gamers (or press, for that matter) thinking of anything besides their holiday SKUs unless they have nothing good out right now.

i imagine the "next generation consoles" thing is just a holdover from when this game was originally announced (that's what they said back then) coupled with a blizzard marketing department that's inexperienced with console games and doesn't realize that it implies something much different in 2004. it might indicate one or more SKUs are in danger of getting dropped, though, since they weren't specific.

what god for saken developer is working on SGI machines, let alone Mac? I highly doubt that Nihilistic would use hardware like that, with their PC background.

I know Nihilistic uses Maya, maybe Swingin Ape is more familiar with a different 3D package running on Mac.

I wouldnt be supprised if they moved it to next gen, blizzard are obviously never in a rush and im sure MS would love ($$$) to have a blizzard game for Xenon.

I guess it depends how much swinging ape wanted to do to it.

You guys worried about this somehow delaying a SC2 shouldn't worry at all. It's hardly connected to Blizzard in terms of development, so they can (and I'd say probably are, even if it's not going to be spoken of at all anytime soon) be working on that internally.

Personally I thought SC Ghost was going to be crap until Swingin' Ape took over. I liked Metal Arms and this seems just up their alley.

The game appears to be very mediocre, if it wasn't for the Starcraft name nobody would even take notice of it. I'm not too excited to see that game released, ever. Did Blizzard take over development now or did they give it to yet another company? Cause if they're doing it themselves they better drop it and make SC2 ASAP.

Starcraft Ghost doesn't have any bearing on Starcraft 2 development. Now that Warcraft III, Warcraft III TFT, and World of Warcraft are done, I expect to hear a Starcraft 2 annoucnement soon...!

So Nintendo has a shitty holiday lineup?

SC2 is not currently being worked on. Diablo III, on the other hand, is. Expect a D3 announcement long before SC2.

If this ain't true, I will hunt you down and beat you senseless. Better not be a MMORPG either (there is enough out already).

Aw, crap. Really?
Dang. Oh well, back to Warcraft III and Dawn of War.

The next Blizzard game to be announced will be WoD (World Of Diablo).

What will really confuse fans is that it'll be a racing game.

Fuckbeans. I was worried development allocations would go to a new Diablo game instead of a new Starcraft game. But I always thought the Starcraft team and Diablo team were two different development houses? Starcraft being Blizzard and Diablo Blizzard North?

:(

I'm starting to think Blizzard is scared to develop Starcraft 2. It'll have the highest expectations of any Blizzard game ever in development.

Why do people want a new starcraft over a new diablo? God, blizzard done the RTS thing to DEATH. Hell, the genre in general has been done to death on pc.

Diablo 3 would be the easier game to have on both the PC and a true next gen console. That's the plan it would seem, but who knows. Things change.

It is true. Hell, even Bill Roper in numerous interviews before he left Blizzard mentioned it. I'm expecting an announcement at E3, maybe even CES (as part of another announcement)*.

* = speculation on my part, but I have heard rumours.

yeah, but didn't most of the real Diablo staff leave Blizz North? all I know is WOW was mostly Blizz Irvine but a little of North as well.

Doesn't Xenon use Mac Dev kits.

TEH X-CLUSIVE!

Probably not...the 'world' in the Ghost screenshots previously looked a bit Halo 2ish for comfort.
