STARFIELD celebrates its second anniversary, Bethesda posted a cryptic teaser

honest question. is this even possible with the engine their running? as I understand it's kinda the limitation from the engine and unless they rework the whole thing from the ground up, that's never going to happen no?
It's a totally fabricated issue. Going in buildings it's usually 1 second. It doesn't even matter. Anything that's 2-3 seconds, it cycles between all the photos you take in photo mode and actually looks nice.

No one actually gives a shit in reality. They've been told it's the worst thing ever, and just repeat it like mindless zombies. No one cares that there's loading screens in 90+ rated Metaphor, or Donkey Kong Bananza, or countless other games. You would be surprised how many games have loading screens, because most times people barely even acknowledge they're there. To even engage with this debate like it's based on honest opinions is a waste of your time.

Its a great game............ for the first 4 hours.

After that, you suddenly realise each planet is a 10x10 sqaure of rinse and repeat POIs.

The space travel in each planet atmosphere another dome of nothing and rinse and repeat.

It's such a joy at the start when you explore for the first time, but then its rinse and repeat very quickly.
For me even the first 4 hours were bad. The entire introduction is poor and it can also be quite dumb, like the reason for why you get an expensive first ship. The world also feels quite dead when you arrive in the first big city.

In my opinion you need to look hard to find cool content. There's some in the faction missions, but not a lot.

I played it at launch and I enjoyed it for what it is, although it was still very disappointing. For better or worse, it's a middle-of-the-road Bethesda RPG in a space setting.

I did the UC Vanguard faction quest line early on and it was really fucking cool. The rest of the game felt like a big letdown after that.

It wasn't overtly woke/preachy but it had a strong "Modern Audience" stink to it. There's like a perfectly homogenous blend of races/genders across all locales and all walks of life. There's a total lack of gendered behavior, like you could gender swap every single character and nothing would feel different or "off" about it (except for the girlboss characters now coming across as toxic males). Everyone everywhere wears frumpy unisex clothing.

And the writing was extremely lame. "Like HR was in the room" as Veilguard was described.

Lots of times your dialog choices are either "polite, don't rock the boat" response or "flippant, snarky, sarcastic zoomer" response. And often they'll make all of your options say something stupid, just so one of the girlboss characters can be like "no, that's not what this is about" and then proceed to lecture you.

I feel like they put a lot in place as a kind of safeguard for the engine logic, but were a bit overzealous in the execution; a lot of these screens can probably be minimised in a way there's less interruptions.
Like in the below video you can see a barely 2 second loading screen when the ship goes to space, during take off the player still has full control and all the logic is still working, it's only when it has to unload the planet area and load in the space area there's a brief loading screen.

This is different than the whole animation that plays when you actually take-off manually.

Definitely right about the cities, it's not acceptable from a studio as big as Bethesda to have barron cities when you have offerings like CP2077, GTA, RDR etc.

No more loading screens pls, that's all I wish for :messenger_expressionless:

Ironically, this is the only type of mod that would fix it:

s2eApvk.jpg

Planet-to-Planet/Objective mission selection (removing space).

Because then it would remove 4 loading screens and their animations (flying into space, flying into a new system, flying near a planet/spaceship, landing onto said planet/spaceship).

I don't have the skills to make this mod, but doing this and making the game less immersive would solve a ton of loading screen back-to-back problems.

I enjoyed the game for what it was when i played for approx one month via Gamepass which i then proceeded to cancel till the next major release.
I'd buy for PS5 ecosystem and start over- id probably enjoy it more to be honest.

I really need to play the game. I love the general idea and the universe they built, even if it's not as compelling in reality.
Its worth playing and does a lot of things well, but it sacrifices what made the Fallout and Skyrim great and that was unforgiveable.

It was too much quantity over quality.

Hated the second half of the main story. I enjoyed the faction quests more than anything else. Shattered Space DLC was disappointing. The "powers" weren't that great, but the core gameplay was fun. They are supposed to revamp the space exploration/battles which is badly needed.

Overall, still stay Starfield is a good game. Glad they are still adding stuff eventhough seems like we should have more at this point, two years later.

TBF it is much longer on console
What are we talking about then, 5 seconds? 10? Grab a candy or whatever while you wait. It's not that bad. I grew up loading games from cassette tapes on C64 heh

They use your photos as loading screen, can make things less annoying if you make sure you take awesome photos.

Is there really any cause for celebration?

Don't make me post the Steam daily active users graph.
They just want to remind you theyre still a thing.

Like how MS posted that 30 year RARE anniversary post (just a week after canning two of their projects)

two years and its still a shit game that can slightly turn to less shit with mods. Their most disappointing and worst game ever. If people are thinking they were secretly working on something major that completely overhauls the entire game lmao to them.

I remember when people said it would lag far behind FF16 in sales lmao.

Platinum category on Steam, 657M USD in reported sales, best selling new IP of the year, literally the only SP game to reach top 10 in users in 2023.

Not exactly a flop…
Don't forget the most important:

I forgot about that, it's surprising considering how much hate the game got at launch. 130 pages review thread.

It was one of the last battles of the console war but certainly the most fierce.
It's a fun space WRPG. Some tried to make it more, or some make it less. I loved my 300+ hours spent with it.

No, no you honestly don't :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm like you, I love this stuff. Space, so full of promise! Space ships, planets, ALIENS! Oh my..

This game will make you hate.

It's not worth it. Play Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky, that weird UBI Space game that looks like a cartoon.. (That wasn't that bad, actually..)

If you like Space games, don't bother. The loading screens alone are enough to piss you off, and that's before you get to the utterly lame ass characters with Gen Z writing..

And that Nightclub in game. Oh god, that Nightclub

Please, save yourself :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Even the modders ditched it.
I'm waiting for a sale on PC, I want to play the Stars Wars total conversion mod. Played a bit on Gamepass on Xbox and it was not great.

I won't believe they've changed Starfield into something I'd be interested in coming back to until I see new appropriately dressed dancers in the nightclubs. That's my litmus test.

I bought the complete edition on the Series X, still a bit gutted about that..

And funnily enough, after I posted I checked out the price on key sellers and Steam, it hasn't dropped much at all for Steam, which surprised me somewhat

And to be totally honest, I never knew there was such a conversion mod, the last I read a lot of modders just didn't bother.

I'll check it out :messenger_beermugs:

We wanted the next evolution of Bethesda RPGs, this generation's Skyrim.

We got a decent 8/10 game that has < 25% of Skyrim's player count after 2 years.

Definitely not a total flop but also nowhere near the hit that Microsoft expected + needed.

When this shit comes out on PS5 watch it rise up the sales chart and the narrative change that its not as shit as alot make it out to be, the main thing all my boyfriends over on the PS5 will get to enjoy the game of there dreams finaly 💚💙💪.

I remember clocking the loading at launch on a standard 980 Pro, 1-3 seconds going through doors. Can't even pick your nose that fast!
Except thats not the only time it happens right? Its everywhere. I was shocked they decided to ship a modern game like that - it completely breaks immersion for me and ill never enjoy it with such interruptions.

The "general idea" was great, I was hyped for years, but upon playing it, you quickly find it hollow and soulless, I managed about 20 hours, and even that felt like time poorly spent, which was a damn shame for the promise it held.
