Starfield Constellation Edition will ship only with Digital Code. Base release has disk.

That's just needlessly silly. Now everyone's going to do a long download just to play.

Why change what's been working? Not everyone has high speed internet.

Seriously, the future is fucking dire for physical.

This sucks. Even though it will be on Game Pass forever I need to own a physical copy of all BGS RPGs. It probably doesn't really matter. I feel the same way about Halo but who knows if my box contains and actual disc of Infinite since I've never opened it.

They will make money with storage expansion

Even with a disc, it installs the game to storage so you're not saving storage space.

The download part is not the issue, it would have been better if they just stick in a disc with a 10MB installer on it, at least that will let people who want to rent, resell etc, do that.

The tweet being deleted means it might not be true, hopefully it isn't.

If true, why the hell would they wait so long to convey this? I'm getting it on PC and this still bugs me.

PC is already digital and you can play it on gamepass for less than 20 bucks. Not sure what the physical demand will be but it has to be low.

Stop buying plastic that ends up in our oceans. We don't need more plastic. What a fucking waste of resources.
As soon as I have the same rights and privileges with my digital games as I have with physical ones, I will gladly do so. When there's multiple storefronts that are allowed to have their own sales on console like there is on PC, I'll happily go all digital.

Until then, climb down from your moral high horse trying to dictate how people buy their products. I'm not conceding what few consumer copyright protections I have because you hate plastic.

If you want to make an issue about the amount of plastic waste, take it up with game publishers who really don't need to be using these massive boxes or cases. Don't attack end users. In the grand scheme of things, I'd be more concerned about the literal millions of unrecycled prescription pill bottles being thrown away every year than people who buy physical games or Blu-Rays.

Seals the deal that I won't be buying this nonsense. Microsoft may be awesome for backwards compatibility support and expansion, but this online requirement, you-own-nothing nonsense isn't worth supporting.

Already killed my GamePass subscription, after Halo Infinite disc license and this, I'm debating getting rid of my XSX.

This is great news for someone who is all digital, as I can shop around for codes that will now be more prevalent. Sucks for game preservation though I guess.

'Physical are to blame for the price'

also

'Enjoy your $70 piece of download paper'

If its just the box (code inside), fuck that. I've been caught a few awkward times by Switch games and it pisses me off.

If they meant a collectors edition, then they should have 2 models. Collector's edition with Digital and Physical version. That would suit, or maybe gaming overall needs to remove the game from the boxsets and let the purchaser make their choice.
My wife wanted just dance on switch, the physical version was like 30% cheaper than on the eshop so I got that for her. She doesn't really care about physical vs digital but still was disappointed to open up the case and find a piece of paper "why would anyone do this?"

Isn't exactly a new practice... Didn't God Of War Ragnarok collectors edition ship diskless and a code instead? (And others)

I have no issues... Im not a fan of cases and clutter personally. (I get why some dislike though)

Considering this is bethesda the devs who struggle with releasing a fully finished game, a physical release would kind of be pointless as it's going to need at leat several hundred bug fix patches to make it stable just like their other releases.

That for collector's where MS did thet for some of there's as well as Blizzard and Take 2/R*.

This is for the standard edition too, allegedly.

The point of physical is either to have for collection or be able to trade.
You can do neither with a code.
I dont see this ending well
Disagree. Collectors don't even unseal the box so it doesn't matter what's inside.

Collectors do not collect videogames. They collect cases.

Maybe a hot take but if they're going to go this route - just sell the game as digital only and eliminate the product on the shelf altogether.

This would be instant no buy for me.

Also, I should probably consider selling my Xbox of this is the permanent route they are going.

I don't care about physical since I've been all digital for like 5 years but this is ridiculous, why isn't it $50 or $60 then, like Alan Wake 2?

TBH at this rate I'm likely going to sell my consoles and stick to PC, no way in giving console manufacturers this much control over my purchases.

big no, why made physical case for paper then? i mean, we can always make it ourselves if it's empty inside, big no for me
