There was one excellently drawn and animated episode in season 2: Call of the Primitives, believed to be animated by Tokyo Movie Shinsha. Everyone should go watch it. The designs look great even to this day.

In terms of G1 episode animation, that one is orgasmic.

I would of given my left nut for them to animate the entire season like that, would of made it more bearable anyway (fuck you AKOM)

Oh wow yeah, just checked it out, it's really nice, like the good Japanese shows of the time Golion etc).

It's weird how the music keeps banging away and all those cheesy lines get said over animation that great!
