Starseed Pilgrim - Searching for Starseeds Man [out now on Steam]

I feel like this may be the case, unless someone can confirm that it changes significantly after 6 hours or 8 hours or something when you reach the actual ending.

Exploration is there, but I'm not sure how compelling the exploration actually is. That part could perhaps be better.

Yep, it definitely is. I also stopped playing once I finished the first gamephase of exploring the game mechanics. Which still was worth it to me though.

I'm so dumb, I H'ed
in the 2nd suit base and climbed up the credits. This brings you back to ground zero. It even has a warning! Thankfully, I'm back to the 2nd suit now which is faster to get to once you know what you're doing
.

What is the next step after this? Someone just spoil me, just the next step. Actual spoilers XD

Han on, I'm confused. There is an "actual" ending I thought -- are you saying it goes in phases after that and you can essentially play forever?

There is an ending, but the game is basically split into two parts. A) The exploration of the mechanics part, which takes a few hours. And B) Exploring the World and mastering the mechanics to get to the ending. And I lost interest when I got into B. The game is a masterfully crafted experience for A, but B is "standard" video game fare.

Sounds pretty unsatisfying. I ended up trying to make a map because I got bored of
exploring without any real idea of where I was going.

Yeah, unfortunately the second half of the game seemed bit unsatisfying to me, but I got about 5 hours of a very interesting experience out of it, so I dont mind.

Played for a couple hours making some solid progress. Now I'm over it. Feel like it's probably just more
cryptic messages and suits and base building.
That's cool but the core gameplay mechanic just doesn't seem like it's 5 more hours worth of fun. Neat concept though and the whole presentation is pretty slick. Worth 5 bucks.

Well,
each world does have a slightly different mechanic in regards to what the blocks do. They don't change much if you want to get a single key, but adds great challenge with opening triple keys.

Then
there's the triple key levels which are super hard

I also don't find this as appealing as the discovery, but every once in a while now I open the game to try to do one of these challenges.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what are you guys talking about with the ending?
I came across credits, but I thought those weren't the ending?

Is there anything after the 2nd suit?

Well if you ever choose to go back, I recommend
CTRL+ALT+PrintScreen and MS Paint
. Seriously - I did this over the course of an hour :P.

Yeah there is. I can see why the IGF judges didn't really take to it.

is there any good reason why the game just doesn't give you unlimited seeds? As time goes on, and I hear more about the game I just think I might stop playing, seems like a real lack of closure, or not worth the effort...
Sending you a PM.

Yeah I did do something in Photoshop.

Thanks, Toma, for the fun contest! I am looking forward to playing this game and sharing my thoughts with all of you. I am already doing my best to avoid all spoilers.

I played 16 hours Finally beat what comes after one of the tri-star locks and I think I might be done. I really loved the exploration of the game but the challenge of opening triple star locks is too daunting
Except in the world where you can stand on the darkness. I loved the surprises like that that this game throws at you, but I feel like ive seen 90% of the game and the other 10% will be way too much work

Made a map so we can compare gardens. Spoilers naturally.

I think there's more to be found so it's not definitive. I've seen enough of the
late game now to know I'm not putting in the time to finish it.
Good for those who like a challenge I guess.

I love the way I'm basically pruning my hub world as I parkour my way through it. A rough map is definitely useful for those getting overwhelmed. Makes it way easier.

Yeah I'll probably never fully beat it. It's really difficult.

That's what confuses me about Blow's praise for the game. He's often talking about how his games value your time, while providing a long term challenge.. this game satisfies one it seems but mostly because it sacrifices the former.

I have only put a little time into this so far but it is interesting. Seeing how long I can go without looking anything up, thanks for the key Toma!

I got a question, could be a spoiler:

If you reach the out limits of the hub world, is there an invisible wall? I'm a little lost right now and don't want to go into endless nothingness anymore.

Looks awesome.

BIAS! :O

I liked watching Northernlion's run, then Giantbomb's Jeff and Patrick play,
they totally understood things in different ways, I can see games like this becoming more popular, Its slightly roguelike in its trappings.

Starseed Pilgrim EP by Dualryan has been released. That sweet music.

Sooo...

Can you actually finish the game? Does it have an ending?

I think I've found all the isles and I've beaten one of the three key door things with the black suit. What would I have to do to get an "ending"? Please don't say I have to get that three door thing on every isle!

I hate to break it to you, but...

Yeah no chance I'm going to bother with the
three key doors
was amazing during the first few hours of discovery though.

The first few hours were easily the best and "special" part of the game. The endgame feels tedious, but its still nice that its there for those who want to play more of it.

, it was amazing during the first few hours of discovery though.

I've put 4 hours on the game,
looped the map from left to right linking the first four isles, then up to the purple suit. I've had pretty solid runs in the blue suit world which is where I've done most of my farming and unlocked my only triple key lock so far.

I really didn't think the mechanics were that difficult to ascertain... but they make for a very inventive and frantic experience.

Small doses for sure. This game has the propensity to piss you off tremendously.

I love it. I can't see myself getting
every triple lock, or even making every suit accessible for that matter
, but it's definitely a game I'll keep coming back to.

I have gotten the third suit and I just keep going back to the first level to grind, as it's much harder to reach the keys in the following levels. Am I missing something? Getting really repetitive.

So I finally started playing this game again. I realize that I'm having a really hard time getting used to the mechanics. I hit Down at the first screen, get to the first level, and proceed to mess up horribly. Any tips?

Observe what you are doing and how you are using the mechanics presented to you. Ask yourself what you can do and how that works. "Messing up" in a level isnt really a severe punishment, just try yourself out and see what happens.
