Started A Gaming Blog - Tips Needed

If you are using wordpress either make your own theme or try to find one not many people are using.

There is no need for arras-theme video game blog #5000

Here's an idea for a supplementary to whatever you like niche: treating gog releases as if they're brand new stuff, starting with tongue in cheek lines like how Black Isle or whoever have finally launched the hotly anticipated Baldur's Gate II, comparing what the games offer to modern releases in the genre (or same series in some cases), etc. Eh, I might do that too.

I've actually planned to do that for retro reviews. Not the toungue in cheek 'new release /trollface' but rating classics/not so classics as they stand compared to today's games (especially as so many are being re-released and made available thanks to DD services).

Make it a video blog on youtube, recording gameplay videos with your doing a voice over, and have a channel instead of a site, get money with advertisements from Google.

Cant you get your videos taken down if you dont own the content in the video though? I've had offers for some of my videos, but thought they had to be 100% original content. Honestly i'd love to get into something like this myself... I get the feeling that I should at least put my foot forward after seeing how many survival horror/rpg LTTP threads i've posted.

Probably would focus on niche action (Bayonetta, Vanquish, Binary Domain, etc.) JRPGs, Platformers, and survival horror, with retro stuff thrown into the mix.

Another hard part seems to be thinking of a catchy title that hasnt been used yet.

Start a blog that is centered around the idea of a blog existing in 1988 (or somewhere around there). Use the same dates from the present but just change the year (so on your blog today would be 2-8-88). Talk about upcoming games based on the games that launched during that time period, and write reviews for them as they "come out." Discuss any big news that happened, such as the arrival of a new console or announcement of the next big game in a popular franchise. As long as people are always interested in what gaming was like 25 years ago or whatever then you will always have the potential for success.

I thought of this idea in about 2 minutes so I'm sure there are a bunch of stupid problems with it but it seemed cool in my head. Obviously you would have to be into retro games for this to work, though.

Carve out your own niche. Do something no other game blog does and I'm sure the rest will come to you.

this is great advice, plus i'll add a bit of advice from my own experience.

1. keep a schedule, whether you post daily or weekly, whatever features you plan to have, have a schedule for them. Especially if you do a podcast.

2. don't be afraid to "manage: your staff. If they aren't contributing then make it known.

3. have an editor who has at least majored in English/Writing/Journalism. Your contributors will make mistakes, and a good editor can make even the worst article readable
