Linus tech tips is disappointed that the steam machine won't be priced like a console.

The content creators are licking their chops. Everyone will have a video on how to undercut this thing or spend a little more to get something way better.

The ram issue has this all up in the air. It really looks like it was meant to be $500. I guess we'll have to see how the price compares to ram on the market when the time comes. For example, it this is $700, but it takes $900 to build something similar by then. Gross.

Thanks Sam Altman. You fxxed over EVERYTHING. Hope your company implodes in a way no company or bank has collapsed in the 20th or 21st century. You deserve all the failures, my guy 👍
Fan of easy answers? People who don't think like those
If anyone, blame Google, it was their paper ("Attention is all you need") that cause furor, Altman was just the fastest out of crowd to go out with product. But even without google it was bound to happen, model itself is just clever re-usage of models from 80's.
You can't really stop advancement of civilization.

Wake up babe, new Linus video about the price of a Steam Machine just dropped

The Play Some Games part at 15:05 was the most interesting part IMO. The early stuff sounded like preemptive damage control for Valve even if that wasn't intended.

Btw this video had me asking what happened to that fat guy that used to be in Linus videos. I look it up…

At $700 just get a ps5pro. This will only be for steam gamers who want a living room experience.

Maybe for the few who are looking for a pc at that price/spec as well but it isn't going to fly off the shelves. I want one to play with but I'll wait for a sale

ok now i want to know what happened to the fat guy. do tell bud.

The problem with releasing it as a reference device is... they tried that the first go around and it flopped.

Steam Deck, despite being subsidised, hasn't sold that well for a console.

The saving grace might be that memory prices go even higher and Valve can get a reasonably priced supply due to bulk purchasing.

That was on deep sale for Black Friday most likely to clear out stock, can't compare
It depends on if HP is selling at a loss or not. If they still broke even, then Valve still has a chance to beat that price as they are using cut back lower tier binned parts. Moore's Law is Dead's BOM was $425, and that was using normal pricing for the CPU and GPU. Memory prices are of course up in the air, but I could really see it happen.

He's a fat woman now.

Just to put things into perspective, the leaving LTT wasn't a one off. Lots of people have cycled out recently. Though I'm not sure if that was a catalyst or not.

Yes, considering 5060Ti prebuilt systems can be had for $899, which are 2x (or 3x with DLSS) the power of Steam Machine, it's like bringing out the OG Steam Deck now and charging near ROG Xbox Ally X prices for it.

The primary market is going to be upper middle class nerds who already have a 5090 "gamer battle station" in a dedicated office/computer room, that are buying Steam Machines for their dens, living rooms, basements, and bedrooms.

Then why not just build your own mini PC? What is the benefit of buying the Steam Machine when you can get some ITX build for the same price that probably will offer better performance?

I remember the reports about 6 months ago that Valve was entering into mass production of these boxes. There must be a warehouse somewhere stocked with them at this point. Otherwise, if I was Valve, I would just say due to unfortunate market conditions we are putting this off. Unless they are willing to take a loss, these things might be dead on arrival.

This is it, Valve if fails this round, there won't be a third round of machines ever, most likely. Proving Valve cannot count to three!!!

Steam machine is toast it's a last second decision by a company that hasn't manage to organize or capture the computer market and I'm not saying this because I work for Microsoft or ea origin but when you look at PC (personal computer) gaming it's a mess (virus, #2 ram shortage #3 too many launchers, adjustments (only enthusiasts celebrate)) pc gaming's problem is it isn't very good with the casual consumer, its marketing situation isn't very good, updates you don't trust, I think prior years you look at the computer picture it's printing a document, sending an email, etc.
