Haven't been to liberty in over 15 years. Don't remember if I want to the crown the last time. Do remember those killer stairs though.

I'd actually like to visit Ellis Island one day. I don't really care about going up in the statue, but I'd like to learn more about the history of the site. Like I'm a decendant of Portugese immigrants, but my family name is very American-ized. I was always told that if the immigrants had a weird last name and couldn't speak English, they'd just record a name that sounded more English. That could be an old wive's tale, but it's kind of weird thinking that your last name might not actually be your real last name. My last name certainly doesn't sound Portugese.

My grandmother used to have really old photos of the first of our family that came to America when they were still in Portugal, the Azores to be more exact. It was crazy, because they were the men posing in front of their Portugese home and it was literally like something out of Braveheart. It was like a stone-built hut/shed with like hay or something sticking out of it.

I really wanted to go up the statue when I was in NYC last year, but tickets were already sold out for it (or something like that). I did get a good look around and had a nice lunch at the island.

Always been something I wanted to do since I was a kid.

It's going to take them a full year to slime the inside of the statue? Pffff, it took the Ghostbusters less than a day. Stupid government always takes too long to do simple things. Hell, if it's anything like typical construction, they'll say a year yet it will just get started a year and a half later and take 5 more years...

A freaking entrance ramp to the Belt Parkway (the main highway that wraps around Brooklyn/Queens/Long Island and goes towards NYC) in my neighborhood has been closed for 14 months for renovation that was scheduled to take just 4 months, and there's no end in sight. It's caused immense gridlock during rush hours on the local streets. NYC is the worst when it comes to construction and other projects. It usually takes at least twice as long and ends up costing twice as much as estimated.

I'm planning to go to New York next year for a holiday trip. Wasn't planning to go to Statue of Liberty anyway so I don't think I'm missing out, apparently the queues to go inside were up to several hours.
