somehow I managed to beat the first game but it was so bad that I have no desire to play the rest of the series.

I've always heard that 2 was much better though so I would like to hear why you think the original is better.

I appreciate the original game more for what it attempted to accomplish than how it turned out. Despite the monotonous mission design, AssCreed 1 succeeds the most at making the player feel like an actual assassin; this is something Ubi began to move away from beginning with the sequel and has since abandoned entirely in favour of a traditional action-adventure experience that simply makes shallow pretensions about incorporating investigative or stealth gameplay.

Edit: Having said that, Rennaisance Italy is my favourite setting of the series thus far (2's locales and Brotherhood's Rome more so than Revelations' Constantinople).

I see. So they more or less turned an intriguing concept into a mindless action popcorn flick type of thing.

That's a shame.

Wayforward posted this in kickstarter email regarding Shantae Risky's Revenge steam;
We are hard at work on the Steam release of Shantae: Risky's Revenge and it looks like it will be available Q2 of next year! We're tentatively calling this the "Director's Cut" because we are taking the best parts of the DSiWare original and all our favorite updates from the iOS release to make it the best version of Risky's Revenge yet!

It's not mindless. It's just not really an open-world stealth game, which is what made the original game such an interesting concept. Now it's just "hey, run around, discover things, stab people, sail the Caribbean..."

AC4 is SUPER FUN, and the best-written game in the series so far (not that that's saying a whole lot). It's super innovative as a pirate game, and has more in common with Red Dead Redemption (except it's, well, good) than anything else. So I'd hesitate to call it "mindless action popcorn flick." ACR, sure. AC3, well, no--it's actually a really interesting, but deeply flawed game. AC4, though, is just plain awesome--but could benefit from a return to stealth.

well my biggest issue was with the really simplistic rock-paper-scissor combat of the first game where counter attack beats all.

I think at this point I'd be totally happy if every 3rd person beat em up kind of games did some kind of variation of the arkham batman games.

I think you all don't like AC4 because you are criminally insane.

I would honestly think the people who do like the series are closer to that. I have no idea how one could justify liking the pointless, basic activities and collectibles and the most basic, near automated platforming and combat in all of gaming. What's left after you take all of that away?

Haven't you got a ball and cup to play with somewhere Derrick?

Just got my Clickteam Fusion 2.5 Steam key (if you bought the humble weekly you can ask for a 60-something % off upgrade voucher) and it suddenly hit me, why would I want to have software on my Steam account? Seems kinda silly.

I have played a little of AC4 and I agree, it is not very fun (in fact I felt a bit depressed after playing it).

You lost me at video games having a point.

Folding@home is more of a video game than Mario I presume.

What if they provide a DLC batman costume, does that fix everything?

So much for SteamOS, I've tried 7 or so different methods now and my PC won't even detect it

EDIT: Haha, as soon as I post that it goes.

Uninstalled Skyrim again. For the last time? Doubtful. But I needed a break because all I seem to do in that game anymore is take pictures and mess with hair/makeup/clothing.

What's the word on Teslagrad? Great game, average, wait for a better deal....

Controller support seems to be slightly broken, at least for wireless controllers: you need to manually set the bindings and they appear as "joy8" and whatnot rather than actual X360 button names.

Any collectors interested in Football Manager 2012 let me know.

In a few hours I will be going to a store that had a few retail copies last time I was there, so I might be able to get some steam codes for any fellow Gaffer interested, unless they sold all the copies already.

It's annoying how Sega pulls the previous instalment as an option when releasing a new one (you don't see, say, 2K doing this with the NBA games). I hope Panda reverses this habit when he's the company's president. ;)

You mean the gameplay?

Really? Oh man, that's bullshit. Hopefully Valve can get these SteamOS videos blanklisted. The new ID claim system is just stupid.

It was probably the Portal gameplay that set it off instead of SteamOS. Still, I thought Valve said they wouldn't be participating with the system.

Not only sega, the train simulator games do it too, and I think the Magic the gathering games also remove older versions.

I don't think so. The uploader wasn't clear on why the audio was removed; he could have had something playing in the background that YouTube picked up on.

Train Sim isn't exactly the same as it just uses the one app which is updated on a yearly basis whereas the Football Manager games all use their own apps. As for Magic, 2012 and 2013 are still available; it's just the original game that WOTC pulled.

Reason #1 I need to add you on Steam: Your collection dwarfs mine and will make me feel better about my weakness for collecting digital games via Steam. ;)

I appreciate the original game more for what it attempted to accomplish than how it turned out. Reason #2 we need to be friends on Steam: I also think AC was the best game of AC and AC2 because it actually felt like you were gathering intel to perform an Assassination -- it was also kind of fresh in a "Matrix" kind of way, where the way it was introduced was very intriguing and pulled you into the universe. AC2 just felt like GTA:Renaissance to me. I 100%'ed it on both console for some reason, but... yeah, I prefer the first game. The only other game I've played in the series is AC3:L and I liked that better than AC2. At some point, I should really try AC:B, AC:R, and AC3.

You probably already did, and don't even know it.

Reason #3 I should friend JaseC: This sounds like something I would do...
