STEAM | December 2014 - Read OP for winter sale questions

Oh man, steam sale happening and I wasn't even aware! Grrrrr still having finals right now.

So GAF, I've been waiting for dark souls 2 to go on sale for an acceptable price and it's on sale for an acceptable price. However, I hear there's gonna be a souped up version next year and I'll have to wait another year for it to go down in price again. What do you think? But it now or wait for it?

Roll out of bed, make breakfast, excitedly sit down too see what glorious loot I can get for cheap, open the Steam store, and...

I've never had a good first day of the sale. That's really disappointing.

ModBot

Not a mod, just a bot.
Thanks to an anonymous benefactor, I am giving away a Steam key. To enter this giveaway, send a PM to ModBot with any subject line. In the body, copy and paste the entire line from the message below containing the game you want to enter for. Confused? Watch this GIF tutorial or ask for help.

ModBot Basics:
- Do not trade keys you win off-site to enrich yourself. Don't try to claim games you have no interest in collecting or playing. Don't claim games to give them to friends off-site.
- If the key is already taken you will not receive a reply. Replies may take a minute or two.

Edit: Got in, thanks!

Not sure where to ask this but how do I go about getting in the steam group? I don't want to bother anyone that's online. I don't have any local friends that play games so I'm looking for some people to play with. My Steam name is Jams775.

the wishlist showing up on the main page is neat.

the discounts being shit for the most part is not neat

i suspect this neat feature being responsible for both my client and browser showing just blank black page. i have huge wishlist (1000+) and so far i only found one more person with same issue. he has 700+ items on his wishlist.

anybody here having same problem?

I bought bunch of games I'll never play, because hey! it's sale time and I really can't make my mind about Flight Simulator, like I add it to the cart, then remove, then add again, halp!

Weird to see people not holding off on Dark Souls 2. Don't see a reason to jump in with the remasted edition coming soon.
Last I heard, the old PC version is getting a partial update. It will be everything except the new graphics and some game design tweaks (perhaps to accomodate the graphical overhaul?). So it's not as crazy as it seems.

Wait for the dailies.

Play games you already own to take your mind off of it.

You have to look at these things objectively. It might be bad for you as you already own everything. Think of it from the perspective of someone else.

MGSV launches on Steam, with MGR for $6
Dark Souls II record low price, with Dark Souls, post Steamworks patch for $5.
ETS 2 ties record low price.
Styx record low price.

Kind of a pet peeve of mine when people like to be hyperbolic about the state of the sale. Could it be better? Of course, but it's fucking nothing?

Come on guys, I told you sale cards are going to drop on the day of the sale

The sale cards drop in price once people get their 1st card from the community vote.

I was expecting valve to use the usual one vote every 8 hours and card on the 3rd vote formual not this new 1 vote every 24. During the previous sales the sales cards increased in price between the 1st and 2nd vote.

:(

it doesn't include the DLC and it's not going to use DX12. Pretty big things to ignore when considering a purchase.

Panic selling when everyone else does is always the worst option.

I should've listen to you when the cards were at .25 each. Panicked and sold some of my stock for half that because i didn't anticipate a lack of a metagame + 1 card per holiday vote instead of every 3 votes. Gonna heed your advice from now on, bro

You were only right because Valve did something completely new, which is hand out cards to everyone the moment the sale started. Otherwise they would have at very least held their value or gone up a little, and any event would have driven them up substantially. Every other sale before this one, cards at least doubled in price on the first day. Waiting was the smart gamble to make, it just didn't pay off this time.

Weird to see people not holding off on Dark Souls 2. Don't see a reason to jump in with the remasted edition coming soon.

The remastered version represents a significantly reduced value to PC gamers. Most of the changes are getting ported into this version, and any toaster can already run the game at 1080/60. We are left with some vague promises of DX11 and shuffled enemy placement, without any tangible examples.

Not to mention the utility of playing one of the best games of 2014 now, as opposed to 6 months in the future.

A small reminder for the winner: Please PM me the name of the game you want to see in tomorrow's giveaway. This should get interesting with the sale starting today. One simple rule: It must be available on Steam for 10 Euro's or less. (since I still don't own a money tree)
If I don't receive a reccomendation in 24 hours, i'll get one of the titles some other nice Gaffers recommended or choose one myself.

Happy holi(seal)day's! :)

You know what sucks? When you save back money for the holiday sale and then you end up having to buy more things to pay for other people's gifts. Mom got my kid a bike, so now I gotta get a bike lock. Brother got my kid a new game, now I gotta get him more memory because it has an install disc. FUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!

what the hell?

what's the point in arranging your wishlist by typing the number, just to see so many games getting mixed up after saving it?

fix this valve

as someone who waited like 3 years to play DS1, i guess i can wait for a DS2 complete edition to come out with some quirks fixed. So i dunno, paying for a version w/o DLC and the possible promise that some things will get worked out kinda sounds equally baffling.

Well, two games can't possibly occupy the same number. Everything at that number you entered and higher will be dumped backwards one space.

Seems logical to me, though I would appreciate more organization options.

but that's not what's happening

i put a game from #30 to #15

after saving i see that the game is at #15 but #20 is now at #37, #10 at #6 etc.

makes no sense

So is Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin going to be sold separately from vanilla Dark Souls 2? meaning it'll be stupid to buy DS2 right now
