how do we turn HDR on? or is it on by default? i just tried Rainbow Six Vegas and it has HDR in the games menu. does that mean its definitely on?

People say Ori 2 is a particularly good game to showcase the HDR. I believe it also works fairly well in Diablo 4, Resident Evil 3 Remake, and I'm sure there's more, but so many people are still waiting for the device to arrive (myself included). Next week or so there'll probably be dozens and dozens of good choices, and in a month or two, hopefully hundreds (currently ~400 are listed on the PCWiki).

Cancelled my order for the 512 and reordered the 1tb one.

Sitting at "Your parcel has been sorted at our hub and is on its way to our delivery depot." with Parcelforce since yesterday afternoon.

Was hoping it would come today, but I guess it'll be tomorrow at this stage!
Still the same this morning atm. Kinda weird, usually Parcelforce are timely enough with updates

Keep us updated pls.
Hello there,

Thank you for your patience and contacting Steam Support.

We understand that the long wait could be very frustrating sometimes.

We've checked and confirmed your order is being processed at our warehouse.

You can track the status of your order and see real time update on your order status page.

The package will normally arrive within 4-8 days after it is shipped(excluding holidays and weekends), though this is only an estimate and would depend on the carrier.

We do our best to deliver all orders within this estimate but it is not a guaranteed delivery window.

If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

So nothing. No change in status. I guess it's luck of the draw with their system and it doesn't matter if you ordered 19 minutes after launch or a day later. However, the charge went through on my credit card a few days ago. I'll be patient but I hope it arrives before the holidays.

Haha, I opened a ticket yesterday and got the same exact response (word for word) today.

Are you in EU as well?

512 GB OLED Deck for 569 EUR

or

ASUS ROG Ally - Ryzen Z1 Extreme for 599 EUR

?

How much do you care about HDR and OLED? I just got mine and damn Ori is a sight to see. That bright white and the sunset blasting at your eyes in all its glory, and at 90fps too. Battery life is going to be sick as well.

If Steam OS, HDR+OLED, and the battery life don't count as much for you, then Ally for sure.

OLED is definitely important for me, I don't care at all about battery life as I only use it at home. I'm just curious how good LCD on Ally really is.

Its not bad but it doesnt compare, its a no contest in screen department.

It's not even HDR. HDR is pretty sweet, you get impressed right away with Ori. And plenty of games will get HDR I bet, already like a dozen work well, but could easily be hundreds in a few months.

But on the Deck you have to accept the newest games are going to struggle unless they have Switch ports lol. Not all of them, especially if they are PS4/PS5, then they're usually ok, but once you get to PS5 only games, that may be too much. But there's no shortage of games to play, so I don't see the problem myself. I can't play game X, but I can play A. B. C. D. E. and F. Steam Deck 2 will play game X, so as long as you aren't deadset on playing every new release on the device, the power isn't that big a deal. And a large majority of new releases still run, just not every AAA.

Yeah the reason i dont care about the performance part is that I wouldn't want to play Alan Wake 2 at very low with FSR be it on the deck or ally when I have a 4080 PC and a PS5. And even if I wanted I would stream, for which the deck screen will look better.

Yeah, I haven't used streaming much, but since they're adding HDR to Moonlight eventually that will be another plus for deck, and I imagine that PS5 streaming software will also get HDR at some point as well. Haven't really tried either yet. But people say the Moonlight one works incredibly well at 90fps as is, and even better when HDR comes.

I had the choice between OLED SD, Ally and Legion Go. I chose SD OLED. I love the fact this thing is made specifically for games (much like the Switch) and it is primarily a gaming device made for us gamers! Not saying the others aren't but Valve seem to have heavily invested in the Deck and I love the care they've taken with it. Just wish we had an official release here in Australia! Already onto the 2nd iteration and still no Aussie (official) release date in sight!

Mines in the packaged items phase. Hopefully it moves quick. If not, no biggie. I got my screen protector and track pad things in. Just need my “case” for it.

I’m gonna be asking a lot of questions here once I get it.

So while on paper the weight difference of the devices isn't that much, the lightness of the OLED is immediately noticable.

The Dpad is much improved! it doesn't have as much resistance as before when pressing, this is big for me, I was resigned to play 2d games with the left stick on my lcd model as I hated the feel and resistance of its Dpad.

Love the comparison. The HDR looks even better in person too, Ori is great. Will be really nice to see more and more games add it in, I'm particularly looking forward to playing Midnight Suns w/ HDR on the Deck once that's fixed up.

Thanks for your post, the reports of the not so great dpad had me hesitant to order the oled (this would be my first deck). Have you tried shmups, as well?

The screen looks great - just out of interest, does anyone have an issue with slightly loose x and y buttons? If you shake the deck gently they rattle - if you move your thumb across them they rattle. They have a little play left and right in the hole I think.

Might be nitpicking - but don’t recall this with the LCD one.

Only had a short time with it so far but:

- Feels nice in the hands than the old one
- Screen is amazing, and a very nice size
- Batocera doesn't work yet :(
- Did manage to get Chaiki to work (kind of pain, but should be ok now that it's set up), works very, very well with the oled steam deck. Its not quite as "clear" due the lower resution vs the portal, but it's completely ruined me on the portal so far. When I switch back the the portal, which I love the controls, the size and sharpness, but when I move (say, look left or right) there is so much more smearing going on. I had to go back and forth a couple of times just to see if it was just me exaggerating and so far it doesn't seem to be the case. It was the one thing I was most complaining about on the portal (corrrcted, said steam deck by accident), so it's not a complete shock but when you switch directly between the two it's more obvious.
Also of course the black levels and contrast are also better on the steam deck, even though the portal screen is actuall quite good in terms of contrast and color.

Going to try and get some xbox local direct streaming going, had it working breifly and it seemed fast/responsive but the keys are mapped yet so I have some work to do.

My diagonals were really bad on the LCD one. Couldn't play THPS on it or fighting games.especially down left was hard as fuck to press.

Would you say its greatly improved?
