The Z2 Extreme is drastically better than what comes with the current Steam Deck.
I wonder if that chip hits all their price target though.

I've long said that Xbox best Gamepass move would be to just allow it to exist on Steam. Unfortunately for MS, Valve has no incentive to do such a thing.Xbox Steam deck for $100 more incoming.
My dream handheld at the moment is a 32GB Z2 Extreme with a 1600p OLED screen that can go up to 144Hz and VRR. Yes, I am aware that most games won't come remotely close to those specs, but 800p looks pretty good on the original Legion Go and the 144Hz, gives excellent options as well. I'd also love to see BFI added in.I wonder if that chip hits all their price target though.

How many Steam Deck consoles do you believe have sold? The steam deck is currently ranked 6th in global steam revenue. The cheapest steam deck is 400 dollars.
If we assume the steam deck is generating 100 million in revenue per month which would be the equivalent of a 50 dollar game selling 2 million copies a month (we know for example Dune awakening is at around 700K units sold since it launched).
Assuming every SKU is the cheapest one, which we know it isn't 100 million divided by 400 is 250K units.
The most expensive steam deck is 650. The fewest units would be at about 150K units.
Think it's safe to assume it's around or under 100 million in revenue per month. Lest we believe Eldenring Night reign is doing 2.5 million units per month. We know it's done 3.5 million total across platforms in 2 weeks. We could maybe extrapolate that to 5 million (6 if we were being generous) over the month, and assume at most the 2.5 would represent half the total sales going to PC.

That's as good a use case as any since weaker systems may not be able to emulate more demanding consoles.I honestly only used mine for retro gaming, kinda regret buying it.
Yes, so, basically nothing.Probably anywhere between 3-6 million units.
It's not "drastically" better but could be about 40-50% higher in certain games (not all). The Z2 Extreme is drastically better than what comes with the current Steam Deck.
For a console? Sure. For a handheld PC that has near zero retailer presence? It's significant. How many laptops do you think MSI sells in a year?Yes, so, basically nothing.
Or they can commission AMD for some low power version of Strix Halo with an RDNA4 GPU which will embarass all the Z2 Extreme handhelds out there and go toe to toe with the Switch 2 in upscaling.CGood. Valve needs to put out a new Steam Deck with the new Z2 Extreme.
Yes, so, basically nothing.
That's gotta be it. New one based on those new amd chips.New one coming.
Bestbuy and Amazon have new ones, but with a ridiculous mark-up of course.Does anyone know where I can get a new unit from at a decent price in Canada? I just came out of surgery and bed ridden for a while. I need something to do before I go insane from boredom. I'd rather not settle for the new switch. The deck is more my jam.
There are numerous complaints about build quality and materials compared to the Neogrip for Switch 1
Do you have the Switch 1 Neogrip and how does it compare in your opinion?
Yeah all I see are ridiculous markups. Newegg sells it for 1600. wtf lol.Bestbuy and Amazon have new ones, but with a ridiculous mark-up of course.

I think this is much more likely, but it's very probably that AMD won't have the custom chip like that available before either late 2026 or even 2027.Or they can commission AMD for some low power version of Strix Halo with an RDNA4 GPU which will embarass all the Z2 Extreme handhelds out there and go toe to toe with the Switch 2 in upscaling.C
CPU power isn't the issue, its how fast GPU power can improve. RDNA4 has massive positive implications for handheld PCs and its shocking valve havent jumped at the opportunity for a FSR4 compatible Steam Deck 2 chipset
Odd considering the Steam Deck is the superior device. They decided to make Steam Deck unavailable during the first few months of Switch 2
I guess they decided that giving up is the best solution
A SteamDeck is not worth getting right now. Too many devices are more powerful and have a comparable price, plus they can all have Bazzite/SteamOS installed on them.I wanna upgrade mine to the OLED version but I'm afraid they'll announce a new one soon

Yeah I've been keeping an eye on the ROG Ally. I will still wait a bit though, not in a rush.A SteamDeck is not worth getting right now. Too many devices are more powerful and have a comparable price, plus they can all have Bazzite/SteamOS installed on them.
Unless you get it for dirt cheap, a SteamDeck should be avoided. It's been outclassed by LegionGo and ROG Ally.
its not just about power. deck still has the best battery life and screen out there, as well as the back buttons and touchpadsA SteamDeck is not worth getting right now. Too many devices are more powerful and have a comparable price, plus they can all have Bazzite/SteamOS installed on them.

SteamDeck still has it's place, but every other device can be dropped to lower power levels. yes, the screen is nice.its not just about power. deck still has the best battery life and screen out there, as well as the back buttons and touchpads
It's not odd to me. It's only odd to people like you who don't realize that Nintendo is invincible when it comes to the handheld/hybrid market. If the Sega game gear and the PlayStation portable as well as the PlayStation Vita couldn't even sniff the Nintendo handheld coattails then that should tell you something. Nobody on this beautiful green earth can defeat Nintendo in the handheld market. Once you allow this to sink into your mind you will understand that nothing should surprise you. Valve will never stand a chance.Odd considering the Steam Deck is the superior device.
