I think the form factor of the Switch looks great

Steamdeck has better anatomy for the hands.
The Steam Deck hurts my hands just as much as the OG Switch despite being bigger due to the vertical grip and the placement of the buttons.

My Switch 2 will be 100x more comfortable then my Steam Deck OLED (which I regret buying honestly) because I will buy a Satisfye grip for it.

there's this one, which connects to the USB port:

this one which are traditional joycon replacements, with Hall Effect sticks:

the ones that connect to USB have the advantage that you can map any button to either of the grip buttons.
the separate joycon replacements can only map their respective buttons to their grip button.
so the right Joycon can only map ABXY R, ZR and R3 to it, and the left one only the Dpad and L, ZL, L3

Intersting... they don't make a satisfye grip for the steam deck?

They do make a grip for the Steam Deck but it's a completely different design and is more like eh Dbrand grip.

The thing that makes the Satisfye grip so good is the actual grip part of it. It puts your hands are more of an angle (the right side is actually at more of an angle then the left as well) which makes it vastly more comfortable. The Steam Deck (with or without grip), and the Switch by itself have a more vertical grip hold which is uncomfortable especially for me and causes your wrists to bend which puts strain.

It's also why the Portal is comfortable for me and part of the reason I still use it a lot despite being able to use Chiaki on my Deck.

I have the same issue with 8bitdo controllers since their grips aren't as angled as others, and the reason why the Dreamcast controller hurts my hands after like 30 minutes.

I do love that the SD isn't built for baby hands where you have to buy yet another accessory to make it more comfortable. Maybe one day Nintendo will get there on ergonomics.

It's hard for me to contest because I've never held a Steam Deck.

It's even harder for me to contest because neither of us have ever held a Switch 2, but one thing I do know is that the controllers can be popped off and replaced 🤷‍♂️

Steam Deck is fucking huge and bulky.
One of the few things I liked about the rog ally over SD was the smaller form factor (not drastically smaller mind you, I'm fairly sure the width is closer to the switch 2 than the oled)

…and button placement.

Amazing how something with a bigger/better screen and just as, if not MORE, powerful is in a much sleeker and smaller design/form factor.

Nintendo engineers have truly outdone themselves with Switch 2.

It's clear why you cannot mention 'battery life' even when you know these are mobile gaming devices. There are sacrifices made to keep a device slim. I'd have been happier if the Switch 2 was a bit thicker to incorporate a bigger battery.

The Deck also incorporates dual trackpads that add to the bulk.

That said, it's really really sleek and pro looking, and I can't wait to get mine.

?

The LCD Steam Deck has a terrible battery life and my Deck Oled, with its improved battery life, never reached the 2 hour mark playing SoT (a game originally released on Xbox One).

If I was a betting man I'd say the Switch 2 battery will out perform or equal the Deck Oled.

I love the form factor on the Steam Deck. Perfect in my hands. I can't go back to regular Switch anymore, but thankfully the new one is a bit larger, and should be a bit less terrible to hold. Will probably keep it docked 99% of the time though.

Does the overall size of the handheld matter at this point? You are throwing it into the bag regardless and with Switch/Switch2 joycon replacements are a must have for handheld mode anyways.

I find Deck OLED super comfortable, trackpads are amazing for old games without good (or any) KBM support and emulation is awesome on it. Plus battery life is very good unless you are really trying to push it with this gen AAA titles.

I am sure Switch 2 is going to be great, but they are very different machines based on very different architecture with somewhat different purpose.

Switch 2 is basically as large as a portable can get while still being mass marketable. The screen is the same size as the original 5 generations of the iPad mini.

I think it might be too large for children yet lacking that grip some larger hands need.

Should be good for me so excited to try it.

While many fans around the world have welcomed the larger screen and controllers for Nintendo Switch 2, reactions seem mixed in Japan.

Some Japanese users commented on the Switch 2's size, saying that it's "too big", comparing the size of the console to a magazine. A few also quipped that parents may not want their children walking around holding such a "big and expensive" device and its form factor might make it difficult to play during their commute on the train.

There were also some hoping that something smaller, like a Nintendo Switch 2 Lite, could be released to mitigate this issue.
