Now that I've seen how the Steam distribution system works I find it even less fathomable why companies have users download GBs of audio and video data in languages that they aren't using, or massive patches. It's really quite well designed, and it's rather easy to prevent both of those scenarios.

I pray every day that devs start getting a clue on this front. Game sizes are getting bigger, and internet speeds in a lot of area's aren't catching up with the change. Being able to cut down sizes in such ways would be a god send.

Yeah, it's handled pretty well.
But I'd like to have the option of downloading more than one language and switch between them on the fly as well.
(Unless this is already possible and I don't know how)

Played 4 missions of Lost Planet EE, around 2 hours, and I have to say it's fun so far. Presentation - not visuals - feel older than PS360 era, more like PS2 era. Writing, voice acting, cutscenes, menus, mission design. It feels very old gamey.
Gameplay itself is fun thankfully. It's an arcade shooter-fest mayhem extravaganza. At some points, especially boss-fights, it's hard to see what you're even shooting at. And boy are the bosses relentless. You get staggered in a loop. Very frantic.
The antithesis of modern cinematic gaming really.

Fur in LP has no right to look this detailed. Rare furry bosses can tank the framerate to single digits though.

That's Byung Hyun Lee and you can't convince me otherwise.

Yup, Steam's depot system is pretty useful. When I first got Steam developer access I made a dumb mistake, but once you understand it, it's pretty simple and the user is even free to change the depot freely if they know how.

This said, sometimes a game being able to change language freely is appreciated, especially if you want like, English localization with Japanese voices or something like that. But I don't think a lot of bigger developers take the time to/know too much about Steam's very helpful Depot system.

(also did you get Steam Developer privileges from something, if you're involved in a project I'd be interested to hear about it)

I bought a Steam Link the other day and it's awesome. Been playing Dark Souls on it and it runs like a dream, except when someone starts up Netflix. I'm on wireless right now, but I'm going to switch to wired once the ethernet cable I ordered off Amazon arrives.

Yeah, had similar issues over wireless, which I'm sure at least in my case is down to the rather poop tier router I have. As long as no one else is also doing heavy streaming at high resolution, it works fantastically - but moving it to wired made it near perfect.

Where did you see this (Sorry, just saw your comment and couldn't find where it was referenced and so on)? Super interested. I think it's really interesting how incremental updates on consoles too are nearly impossible due to lack of build tools and preference of binary files (leading to massive patches).

man i am having a pain of a time installing this ssd. Is there a up to date guide that explains bios and windows settings for ssds? All my results are unhelpful forum posts.

Just hopped in to play Dark Souls III for the first time in a while. Man, PvP is pretty much dead on PC. I'm guessing everyone is playing in the DLC Arena? I don't have the DLC... I'm super tempted to buy it but I still can't justify spending $15 for like 3 hours of content.

I'm still using the router my ISP gave me which probably explains it. Hoping to finally replace it this Black Friday.

Progress on their blog shows about half of it done. Hm, might play something else.

A couple of weeks ago, the modder said that only 5 rooms remained in the base game.

http://neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=222059687&postcount=2322

http://www.re4hd.com/?page_id=1656

The environments are only the first (and I think largest?) chunk. They still haven't started on the character/weapon models.

5 rooms are untouched, essentially. Even that's not true anymore, the last two updates have been about room 329 which is one of those 5 rooms.
Looking at the progress summary can be a bit misleading because so many rooms are in progress and that page is always lagging behind, but looking at the blog updates gives you a better idea of how far they actually are.

Character models and guns etc are going to be a breeze in comparison.

Mission 8 done in Lost Planet. 3 left. It's janky and the staggering from bosses is a headache but the mechs are fun. Hope the finish won't become a chore. Would like to finish it tomorrow.

Not to speak for Durante, but you can read all about Steam's inner workings on the Steamworks documentation site, which you can access even with a regular account. It's a little outdated here and there, though.

Edit: Or at least it was. I see that the "Prepearing for release" section now recommends not releasing during the weekend whereas it previously mentioned that weekend releases were not permitted.

Had one death in Darkest Dungeon. My Antiquarian with shit quirks bought it on her first mission. She was abusive to her fellow heroes and deserved to die.

Things got a little hairy when I accidently summoned Cthulhu but I managed to escape with no fatalities.

I finally had a bit of a go with Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen last night, after initially buying it two years ago on PS3 and not touching it, I purchased it again in the recent humble monthly.

I've only played an hour or so, but it looks pretty dated, some games from that era like Sleeping Dogs still look amazing on PC, but Dragon's Dogma definitely looks like a PS3 game. Combat seems fun though.

Well, Dragon's Dogma was designed exclusively for the PS360. Not entirely unlike how Rage's textures are awful as Carmack desired PC-inclusive cross-platform parity and so they were created with the limitation of two X360 DVDs in mind.

Sleeping Dogs was targeting the PC at the time, while Dragons Dogma seemed like round peg square hole situation with that engine.

I still don't get why some of these devs are actually remastering games for the consoles. Just take the pc version and make it 60fps. And make whatever resolution is needed to keep them games at 60fps. I feel that is and always will be the best way to replay the PS360 era games. There is no need to redo textures, lightning and other stuff that absolutely no one asked for. 60fps makes games age like fine wine. Some shitty upgraded texture will make the game dated 60 minutes after you start playing it. The visual novelty wears off fast.

Don't know, LP1 is most boring and tedious game that i play. Hope that 2-3 is a little better.
PS - but yeah, dat DX10 fur shader!

Looks like Tyranny is breaking 100k Steam copies according to Steamspy.

Glad that the sale numbers are growing steadily, would be a massive shame if Obsidian's first game after Pillars of Eternity that doesn't have massive media hype were a commercial flop.

A question about Ys Origin, so I came to Epona and had to fight her, I had no damn chance haha... so is the game going to be like that? I have a problem with hard boss fights in games, unless I can grind before hand and be overly overpowered. (that's how I like to play, don't judge haha)

So I tried out some different pilots types in Titanfall 2 a little more indepth today, I just started trying the grapple hook after playing mostly cloak today and I honestly prefer the extra mobility grapple hook gives you to the benefit of being kind of invisible.

It's definitely a challenging game. However, as with Xanadu Next, just a few points more in attack or defense can make a huge difference. Before every boss fight make sure you have the best equipment (and upgraded) and an appropiate level.
EXP from enemies scales based on your level, so it's hard to overlevel by grinding, but it's also easier to reach the proper level. If you still gain enough EXP so that reaching the next level doesn't seem like it needs a lot of grinding, go for it - as said a single level can make a lot of difference.
Brute-forcing bosses won't really work though, you'll need to observe them, learn their moves and evade until they show an opening. That's when you strike.
I guess you're playing Hugo if Epona is your first boss, in that case level 5 should be good and don't forget to use your shield spell.

But I can tell you this now, you're not going to win against any boss on your first try. Ys' Normal mode is probably comparable to "modern" games' hard mode.

is now taking requests
So i recently bought a new computer and decided to try out steam for pretty much the first time in my life and i'm pretty damned impressed with everything. I've only bought planet coaster so far but everything installed like a charm. I'm playing on a 4k 65" tv and i love how i was able to scale the interface so it was still readable even when playing on max resolution.
Is that something that will always work even if i were to play older games?

The only problem is the steam overlay - the interface isn't scaling and i have no idea to make it readable without changing the resolution on everything else as well.
Is it fixable? I hope this is the correct thread to ask these things in.

Also the trophys i'm getting aren't popping up on screen. Not really a big issue but coming from ps4 getting those trophies pop feels a lot more rewarding than it should, really :)

I don't know about that particular fight, but the Ys games (on Steam at least) need you to be at a certain level to have a chance against bosses. Just pay attention to your xp gain and you'll be able to tell when the game wants you to move on. A single level can make or break a boss fight.

Xp grinding in ys games is pretty fast at thr very least a 15 min grind run would make u strong enough to mitigate a few of a boss' damage

Aaaah, yeah I need to prepare mentally for it being a hard game, well harder than I expected. The thing I liked about Xanadu Next was that the moment I hit difficulty I just grinded some and then it got much easier and with bosses I usually grinded alot.

Funny thing with Epona encounter, I was sure it was one of those moments in games, where you meet someone way more powerful than you and you get your ass beat but they stop the fight an inch from your death.XD

Ah, well that does sound good, I don't mind grinding but if it's fast grinding then that's awesome.:D

So far I'm liking Rise much more than Uncharted 4, which I found boring in some sections.
I really like finding tombs, and even the crafting is not so bad if you open all boxes you find, since often there are resources inside, so you don't need to waste time hunting animals etc.
When you power-up Lara, Survival becomes a joke, expecially if there are bottles around: those molotov are insane.

Crystal Dynamic really improved the formula with rise, I consider the first TR (reboot) very boring with an awful plot and story-telling, while Rise keeps your interest high enough even if the plot is totally not original.

Yeah, I think Rise is a much better game than Uncharted 4 too. U4 had such horrible pacing and combat always felt so spongy. But fwiw it had some stunning scenaries.

Have an offer from a friend over a FEAR Key but its not on Steam so I am not sure if its worth.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/silence-the-whispered-world-2

It seems Silence is not so good. Very short, beautiful to see but average to play.
I'm sad, TWW was really a gem, this is not on par clearly.

Also yesterday I tried Master Spy, the concept is nice, but even on Novice I find the game simply brutal. Too hard, and not in a funny way: you need to literally count pixels in order to have a chance to pass the stage, there's no room for errors, like at all. On Novice.
