STEAM | September II 2014 - Ride the Lightning

Since when has Steam preallocated the patches before loading them? Took like 15 minutes to preallocate and 1 minute to download the Dark Souls DLC

edit: now it's still "Updating" 15 minutes after the patch was downloaded

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
So I have about an hour left to decide if I want to buy The Elder Scrolls Online. As with most MMOs I get tired of them after a month anyway so the monthly subscription doesn't really bother me. The only MMO I've ever paid a monthly fee for was Final Fantasy XI way back in 2003.

I assume that Steam gives you a key to register so you can start your 30 days at any time, right?

This:

The Straits Times understands that the changes came after publishers and retailers, unhappy with the disparity in pricing, complained to Steam.

...is incorrect: publishers had to submit pricing in the new currencies or the game in question would no longer be available in those regions. Distributor/retailer pressure certainly makes sense, though.

It seems their examples are both 2K games, which is a publisher I would expect to have shifted their prices initially given their presence in the region.

The chart doesn't explain much either I feel, given that our currency is stronger than the 2 we're comparing with.

As long as games generally are still cheaper than in USD, the switch worked out for us.

Finished Neverending Nightmares this weekend.

The game is inspired by the thoughts that have plagued developer Matt Gilgenbach (creator of Retro/Grade) as a result of his battle with mental illness. You play as Thomas who wakes up from a nightmare only to realize he is still dreaming. From there you begin to explore different environments looking for answers wondering if what's happening is real o not, going deeper into Thomas' mind while everything gets creepier.

The game has 3 different endings which require you to replay certain sections and do specific actions to trigger them. Since this game is more about the experience I won't talk about the different dreams.

Unfortunately I can not recommend this game to everyone, especially if you are looking for a more gamey experience. The gameplay is just walking around from 1 room or hallway to another until you get to the end of each section. There is no combat, only a few light stealth and running from the enemy parts but most of the time you will be walking and slowly. There is a sprint mechanic but your character gets tired quickly.
This can get quite repetitive since more than once you will go through the same or slightly different rooms. Some of which do not serve any purpose and you will leave them as soon as you realize you are in one of those since there's very little to none object interactivity.

The visual and audio design as well as the music are great and do a good job in creating a tense atmosphere. And some of the visions and imagery you experience in Neverending Nightmares is really disturbing.

In the end I believe this would have been better as a short animation film.

I would advise to get it while on sale if you are interested in seeing some of the stuff that has been going through the developer's head.

I picked this up for <reasons> but I haven't played it yet.
Having read this, maybe I'll put it up next after Ethan Carter to knock another off the backlog.

All said, I felt like I had to put a snarky comment in here... it's just begging to be said.
Let me fix your first sentence about the game:

The game is inspired by the thoughts that have plagued developer Matt Gilgenbach (creator of Retro/Grade) as a result of his battle with mental illness (caused by creating and then playing Retro/Grade).

Maybe the game should come with a free copy of Retro/Grade and recommend that someone play it before attempting to experience Neverending Nightmares. ;)

What parts did you go for in your PC? Also Macaroni diet!

My PC is just sitting and waiting for both FFXIII and Evil Within right now. New trailer came out for Evil Within just now that even got me more hyped up!

I have yet to see even decent tasting dog food. I tried different kinds of cat- and dog food, and almost everything was awful, only a few were edible because they virtually didn't taste like anything. Some of the treats are alright, though.

Then again I only eat stuff out of the supermarket, I have to go to a specialist pet shop some time.

Use the 580 as a PhysX card.

Oh shit nice! That's gonna run Evil Within like a boss! I knew I shoulda waited just a bit longer for the 900 series since I built my new PC in April, but I still came up on a 4GB 770 so I'll be great either way. Awesome build though, you went with the same case I got <3

would be interesting to see if prices change down the line.

But you don't play games.

If I squint it almost looks like AssCreed. ;)

He does, I saw him unlock an achievement from the golf club game the other day!

I like mucking around with golf games (I've wasted at least a few hours of my life trying to beat that golfer in GTAV), but there being no in-game tutorial is disappointing. There are videos on the official website, however an in-game solution would be much better.

Edit: I haven't played Vertiginous Golf yet. It looks a little too ridiculous, haha.

Haha, well he was probably affected by how little Retro/Grade has sold along with his personal stuff. I guess this one will not be a hit either.

I did like Retro/Grade even 100%ed it.

I feel sorry for my fellow SEA bros. But look on the bright side, according to the article your COD purchases are cheaper than in our (PH) store!
Were you never curious what we're even feeding our poor pets?

Well... when I was a kid, yeah that notion entered my mind but luckily my rational brain (and a healty ass-whippin' from both the maid and my parents) intervened.

I've nibbled on those bacon dog treats.
They smelled good and I was a bit drunk. They were just ok.

This I don't see chariot being that odd in doing that. Higher pet owners are said to do that regularly when they switch their pets food.

I'm sure this is a pretty extraneous question that I won't get a clear answer for, but here goes:

I am not going to be able to upgrade my PC until the start of next year and so currently rock an i5, 4GB RAM and a 512MB AMD Graphics Card.

With that said would I be able to play Alien: Isolation and The Evil Within if I put everything low? =/

Thanks a lot bros <3 also Dogg, did you ever post your impression on that watch dogs dlc? Cause if you did I missed it. Was it any good?

Only done the first couple of missions as I didn't have much time or any semblance of a reasonable attention span yesterday but I did pop my initial thoughts here.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=131995052&postcount=8577

Liking it so far and will probably tuck into it a little more latter on when I get in.

Don't know but I'm sure you can take some sort of solace in the fact they are both cross gen games so might be manageable on that. VRAM might need some fiddling around with custom config settings with The Evil Within but didn't Transistor say it wouldn't run on your system? Did you try that in the end?

Depends on just how low, low is on those games. But yeah I'll say might be better regardless to wait on those titles.

The 970 apparently fits into the X51 with ease.
Looks like I'll be going with that pretty soon here.

too bad pangya (albatross 18) isn't on steam, would be a cool golf game for gaf game night and don't really require speedy internet, since you just take turns, my friend was really crazy about that game back then.

Even on low, you might get pretty bad frame rate. I'm surprised you've survived this past year with 512MB of vram

That's about what you should expect.

Well, I can't say I've been so inclined to see if I think my dogs' food tastes good... but I do make sure I read the ingredients list carefully and only buy those which are quality.

I wanted to like Retro/Grade... but it was so slow and boring in the opening levels that I had 0 interest in continuing it.
