Does anyone know when this will be released on DVD over in Japan. I've only been able to find the starter kit which consists of the making of and some other stuff.

I was hoping to go see it at TIFF this year but unfortunately tickets aren't available online.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, go here: www.steamboy.net , it's the first film from director OTOMO Katsuhiro since Akira (i think)

I don't think it has a Japanese DVD date yet. I know it's supposed to debut here in the US theatrically in October, though.

Dead

well not really...yet
Probably early next year, maybe sooner, since I believe the movie bombed in Japan

Otomo Katsuhiro is a God and I can't wait for this movie. The Akira manga (note: manga NOT the movie :p) is one of the best stories I've ever read. For Steamboy I think he made up the whole concept for the movie so for this work there are no manga volumes to skip/condense like he had to do with the Akira movie. It should be great. :D

The movie was alright. It's strictly a popcorn film aka Spriggan meets Indiana Jones. The animation and art style is nice and the music (done by americans) is great. Overall I enjoyed it and was glad to have seen it, but the characters are paper thin and there's very little development or depth to them. A low 3/4 at best.

Did you already get tickets for that yet or are you getting them at the door?

Thanks for the replies/reviews. I'm still looking forward to hopefully seeing it some time soon. This and Howl's Moving Castle.... and to a lesser extent Ghost in the Shell 2

I'm going to pick them up a couple of hours before it starts from the box office. I could go grab them now but I'm lazy.
