Stellaris - Paradox Dev Studios new sci-fi grand strategy game

Didn't see any talk of the stream today. I missed it. Is there anything worth checking out the VOD for?

We learned a little bit more about how federations work (every member builds into a united federation fleet that each member controls in 3 or so year cycles), but other than that it honestly wasn't that interesting apart from the typically fun banter.

Bought it full price on Steam as soon as it was available. No regrets. Stuff the extra money into more content, Paradox. MY BODY AWAITS!

I would love to see Riker in infiltration missions in a Blorg world.

Well, got my new PC sorted :D

All sorted for Stellaris and Total War: Warhammer in May :)

GTX 970
i5-6600k
Water cooled
8gb ram (will get another 8gb soon)
SSD and 2tb HDD

So it looks like quill, arumba and a bunch of other youtubers got their steam keys as well.

It would be nice to know when the NDA lifts. I want to see Arumba breaking the game already lol.

I'm torn on pre-release streamers covering the game. On one hand I want to see it, and on the other I want to experience it for myself.

In fairness, it shouldn't matter. There are so many permutations to the game, whatever they do is unlikely to be the same as what you will do. Also, I doubt in any small number of streams they'll even get through a whole game. I'm still trying to work out what to do for my first game. Do I go for a small scale somewhat short game, or full scale all AI that could go on for months at a time!?

Only a little more than a week to go!
Can't wait to tell the fallen empires to 'get the hell out of our galaxy!' once I've grown sufficiently strong to be able to stand up to them.

Yeah it seems like it will lot more like CK2 than EU4 where there is more of a role playing aspect so the stories the game creates will be a lot more personal.

Like above posters can't wait to see Arumba play, he got me into CK2 and I'm excited to see him take on Stellaris.

Love the small details they've added to the game.
Today's @StellarisGame fact: AI Ship design is influenced heavily by their personality, which determines which weapon types they prefer.

For example, Honorbound Warriors will fit the biggest guns they can find, while Migrating Flocks prefer carriers and missiles.

However, there is also an element of balancing versus opponents, so they won't use *all* one gun type, to avoid too hard counters.

Haha, that Fanatic Xenophobe description
Any alien influence must be ruthlessly quashed. Only by staying pure, and true to ourselves and the planet that gave us life can we guard against insidious Xeno plots. Even mastery over the Alien might not be enough to guarantee our safety...
Damn.. I might just have to go Fanatic Xenophobe for my first game after all.

Can't wait to play this game. Now I just need to figure out what i'll be playing till it releases ^^'

I've been playing Star Control 2 / Ur-Quan Masters lately. Nothing like Stellaris other than being sci-fi set in space but it's making the wait more tolarable... it's a really good game.

I've tried many hours, but never understood a thing about EU4.

I'm with you- I had over 600 hours in EU3, adored the game, but could never really get into EU4.

Right now I'm playing through Metro to pass the time. Once May 3 hits, I'll switch to Tropico 5 off of PS+.

I've been trying to get into CK2 in anticipation of Stellaris. Is it usual in CK2 for years to pass early in with basically nothing happening? I'm waiting for a claim to be fabricated so I can become the Duke of Leinster but there seems to be very little for me to do while I wait.

For small countries there is often nothing particular going on since you don't have that many people to manage, and as a Christian you don't have that many expansion options.

If you have the expansions, you can while away the time choosing personal foci and discovering Copernican astronomy or whatever.

When you get a little bigger you can look for people with claims to marry into your family and expand that way.

I actually just picked up CK2 about a week ago for the same reason, and if you're starting off in a single county in Ireland then, yeah, it seems like there are going to be stretches of time when you don't have all that much to do. Don't be afraid to just crank up the game speed, though, if you're waiting for something to happen. You've got around 400 years to play with (or more, depending on DLC), so waiting a year or two to fabricate a claim, assassinate your uncle, or just wait for your levies to build up isn't the end of the world.

Just getting around to watching Thursday's stream. For some reason it's super hype when the Frienderation goes to war and the Blorg's various super weak allies rush fleets out across the galaxy to help as they can.

In Ireland, yeah pretty much assuming you aren't in the old gods start. It will be slow going at first. Crank up the game speed and make preparations to press the claim once you get it. The bigger realms or those on the borders between the major religions are much more lively.

Have you tried being a vassal in HRE or England? In CK2 you don't have to be the top dog in order to do anything and/or have fun.

Agreed. I had hours of fun ruling Isle of Man and struggling desperately to hold onto my independence vs. the duchy of the isles. (I got halfway to turning the tables and then lost everything due to a poor inheritance decision earlier in the game...)

To pass the time before Stellaris I've been playing Thea: The Awakening, a 4X. It's currently annihilating my free time. I like it a lot.

7 days my god the wait is killing me... maybe I'll start watching Babylon 5 again, for the 2nd time this year.

Most fun I've ever had in CKII was while playing as a Duke in the Byzantine Empire. I basically spend the entire game trying to scheme my way onto the throne, blinding and castrating everyone who got in my way. It was the stuff of legends.

How's Mare Nostrum? I've only heard complaints about it and the recent patch, so I've been staying away. Worth picking up? Assuming you've got it, obviously.

I don't have it actually, I find the add-ons to be very overpriced for what they offer. So I normally wait for a good deal on Steam or DLGamer or something before I bite.

I've tried many hours, but never understood a thing about EU4.

Heh, YouTube tutorials are pretty much how I learned the game. So complex, but that's the whole appeal of it. :D

No I haven't. I'm still very much learning the ropes. I've seen Ireland referred to as tutorial island so I've just been trying to take it over as a first objective.

Anyway sorry for dragging this off topic.

Stream schedule for the multiplayer event has just been confirmed. Starting tomorrow we'll get a total of 14 hours of Stellaris multiplayer (4 sessions).
