Nova edition it is. Though I am dumb enough to be tempted by the special paradox forum icon on the galaxy edition...

That is a cool looking spider, but I don't feel he is worth 6 pounds for now. I'm gonna a hold off on preordering till we are fairly close to the date but I imagine that I am probably going to go for just the normal edition.

Also, Looks like they listened to my dlc/pre-order race suggestion. one of them is called "Shadowy Anthropoid" and I suggested something similair to the Shadows from Babylon 5 on their forum :D

Imagine if we had two fallen empires manipulating the younger races in the proxy wars.

That's not an anthropoid though. Humans (and the rest of the simians) are anthropoids.

Those are Arthropods, I think the Shadowy Anthropoids are supposed to be humanoids (or apelike).

Humanoids in the game fall under the Mamalian class. They're calling Arthropods Arthropoids for some reason... Probably a spelling error.

Someone should probably point it out to them.

Nah, -oid is different - it implies they resemble arthropods, but aren't actually them, which would be correct. -ian is arguably incorrect though (but also arguably acceptable).

Oh, alright.

We'll see, I don't think they'd make such a glaring mistake on their pre-order material.
The fact that humans are mammalian doesn't mean that they can't add humanoids as well.

For people that have been following this, how accessible is this game?

I like space opera and empire management but I couldn't cope with Hearts of Iron (I tried the original and haven't looked at more recent versions) because it was way too much tedious micromanagement to get anything done.

Paradox says Stellaris is going to be their most accessible title yet. Sectors for example are almost self-sufficient if you want them to be.

Nova Edition for me. I usually don't go for special editions but this is Paradox so I can make an exception. They've never let me down.
Kinda wanted to get the Galaxy Edition but I can't justify the extra 20 euro's for a book right now. I might just buy it separately later if it has decent reviews.

Do it.

----

This game looks like what I wanted out of Civ: BE. I am indeed curious, but will hold out till release.

I'm torn between the Normal edition and Nova.
Currently I'm leaning towards Nova because... Spider race will be perfect in my Extermina....Unification of the galaxy.

Not a fan of lacking a species behind a pre-order (Or subsequent paid launch DLC)... Or am I misunderstanding.

Well, these are purely cosmetic portrait sets. It's not like they've locked a race with their own mechanics behind pre-order DLC a la Total War.

The way it works is that races in any particular game are randomly generated. Everythign that makes up a particular race, in terms of game mechanics, their ethos, their AI personalities, their politicla leanings, etc is part of the game proper, and is randomly assigned. The portraits, are also randomly assigned, and of course add a lot fo flavor.

I am going to stay strong and wait till post release. I have some suspicion on bugs (and not talking about spiders) with Paradox games (own every single one, every single one was buggy on release).

Edit: It's in GMG and you can use 20% off APR20 code. Hmm.....

So misunderstanding it is. That's great. Sorry I'm catching onto this title late so I'm still trying to get a handle on this. That would have soured my mood a bit as this just looks so phenomenal.

Yeah, that's my thinking at the moment. I'll probably go for the nova because that spider portrait looks awesome but I can't decide just yet.

That makes the Nova edition $40 with the code. The base game is $45 there for some reason though vs. $40 on Steam directly. Might buy from them (still a Steam key). Bought XCOM 2 from GMG with no issue.

Judging from the streams and footage so far the basic gameplay loop is way more straightforward than their other grand-strategy games. The game pretty much starts out seeming like a straightforward space 4X while you explore seemingly empty space, and then the game eases you into the more familiar paradox grand strategy mechanics of diplomacy, war, and internal politics as most of space gets claimed.
