Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

Is it just me or did no one complain nearly as much during the PS2/3 ages about exclusivity? Or did I just miss it...

Also seeing how 95% of 3rd party "exclusives" end up on the other console anyways I wouldn't be terribly worried XB1 owners.

Im glad this is a console exclusive. Its about time things got spiced up again. This industry needs things like this to keep things competitive. And competition will keep gaming alive and well. Maybe now Microsoft will buy out something like Soul Calibur or Virtual Fighter.

Ewww. Why would you want this?!

And this is modern Capcom who doesn't care about pleasing their fans or catering to an already establish fan base look at Monster Hunter with Nintendo and Dead Rising with Microsoft. Capcom's only worry right now seems to be their bottom line precedents be damm it seems.

Dead Rising has always been MS though, so they are catering to existing fanbase.

And Monster Hunter is probably Cappy's biggest franchise now and it's only on 3DS.

I guess the question is implying that why would Sony allow for a PC version if they moneyhatted it.

Considering MS' deal for TR excluded PC, even though they're not direct competitors.

(one reason why I'm more okay with this than the TR deal.)

I'm assuming the more platforms they want to keep it from, the more money they'd have to pony up to compensate for that loss of potential revenue. That's assuming the agreement was indeed them moneyhatting for exclusivity, and not a Bayonetta 2 scenario where Sony was the sole reason the game exists - but I have a difficult time believing that considering the fact that there's a PC version.

That's the thing thou most hardcore fighting enthusiast have a PlayStation console because there's so many Japanese Fighters that never made it to PC or Microsoft consoles

The 360 was the superior console for Capcom games last generation though and received all of the bigger fighting games up until the last year or so.

Yep...I agree. Personally, I think it makes the whole thing a little more fun. As an XBone owner who recently bought a Wii U, I was thinking this morning, "well, I guess I've got to put aside some pennies for a PS4 now...dammit". In the end, I want more reasons to buy one.

Wasn't it like 2 years ago or so when EVO would go primarily Xboxes? I'm sure it's going to have to change again.

Didn't mean it in that way, of course this deal was in the works from before, I just don't like these types of deals.
Same. I am happy with games like Bayonetta 2 as that would not have been made without Nintendo, but something like this would have been made regardless, so in reality it is just stopping many people from playing the game, unless they buy a new console.

I'd argue that this doesn't keep things competitive or "keep gaming alive and well". I'd argue that innovation within games as well as platform features and services is what can do that. All this is doing is getting people to throw money at each other to hold a game or others in a penalty box for a while, or indefinitely, more frequently. It hardy improves everything else other than providing something to market

Microsoft started this whole thing with Tomb Raider and now Sony is doing it with SFV, either way I don't like it. Just glad right now that I own both systems.

There's a couple reasons why this is not as bad as MS and Tomb Raider:

1. PS4 doesn't have half the install base/marketshare of the Xbone, so the majority of console owners aren't getting blown out with this deal like was the case with TR. It also makes a lot more fucking sense because of the current console marketshare. TR deal doesn't make any sense whatsoever! :/

2. Street Fighter has never had the vast majority of the fighting game hardcore on Xbox, it's always been on Playstation and associated with PS. So again, the hardcore fans of the series aren't getting bummed out like was the case with TR, which was also a traditional PS franchise. I don't think you can say the same with SF and Xbox, in all honesty.

But I know that doesn't make this deal any harder to swallow if you are a Bone owner.

A trailer with like 15 seconds of gameplay. The game looks just as ugly as SF4 did but with a next-gen sheen over it. Not sure what else there is to say right now.

Chun still has monster man hands. Ryu still looks like a roided out Frankenstein. Disappointing to say the least.
GG looks so much better art wise. Not sure why Capcom wouldn't go for that. SF 3 remains the last one eith great art direction.

Dead Rising has always been MS though, so they are catering to existing fanbase.

No that proves my point Dead Rising 2 did come to PS3 and Monster Hunter started on PS2 and was exclusive to PS2 and PSP (with the exception of Monster Hunet Frontier for PC in Asia at the time) before switching to Nintendo Cosonles I'm just saying that Capcom sporadically changing hats like this is not new.

Wow, seems Sony was serious about dropping bombs tomorrow. Awesome news

If Sony did fund this then it's not like TR. TR was just MS paying to delay the PS version

Possibly, but did TR even get announced for any platforms when it was first revealed?

It's not a question of if they "could", it's a question of whether Capcom wants to.

This announcement and DD/DR3/REmaster aside, their priorities are obviously not in exploiting the core market like it was early last gen, when they had a bunch of new IP in the early 360 days. They're mostly focused on mobile, F2P and a few core IP atm. I'm sure RE is prioritized there more than SF, and we know they're working on RE7 and the remaster. Then there's Deep Down, and who knows what else.

Capcom isn't exactly made of money. They probably don't even have a billion dollars.

But RE6 fell short of sales expectations and SFIV outsold it by a decent amount, iirc. I'm sure they could have funded it, but Sony probably offered to pay or help pay for it.

So I'm a "Hardcore fanboy" because I'm calling Microsoft out for how they've been treating towards consumers, even outside of consoles & even when I've been gaming since the 80's. OK.

No, you know why you're a fanboy. I've seen your posts and you've been called out for your posts several times.

Wait.

Forget the Xbox one...everyone got so wrapped up in system wars crap that something far more important was missed.

THERE WAS NO MENTION OF AN ARCADE VERSION. AT ALL.

Wasn't it like 2 years ago or so when EVO would go primarily Xboxes? I'm sure it's going to have to change again.

Aside form the year where Sony sponsored Evo I believe SF4 and Marvel have always been run on 360 due to PS3 having lag issues with certain characters and stages.

This is a good point, it makes people hungry, if Assassins Creed went Xbone only, that would force Sony's hand and they'd make a game completing for the people who want to play that type of game

Both Sony and MS need to carve out an identity for themselves to stop themselves just being seen as "weak PCs"

I'd rather they fund new IP than buy out stuff like with Tomb Raider and potentially this, though

MEGA-fucking-TON son!

Of course that is assuming this is a true console exclusive for at least a year. During that time span, the community will already be set on PS4 and releasing it on the bone will only catch stragglers and casuals.

Hopefully this shows that Japanese companies will get behind the Sony console again and provide us with a wealth of content. That they will focus on what they do best instead of forcing what they believe the "West" wants in a game. Too many stupid games last generation from Capcom and other Japanese publishers. They should feel more at ease with the development costs since, dare I say it, the King is back!!!

3. Rise of the Tomb Raider is a sequel to a game that released on PS3 and Xbox360 last generation and had a definitive edition released for PS4 and Xbox One

Why would that specific trailer have to tell you that information, considering where it will be shown? The Arcade version is incredibly likely, but doesn't need to be in that trailer at all

Hard to test an F2P game in an arcade.

Can't wait for that announcement to get people worked up. Capcom and Ono did their F2P test run with Deep Down, now it's time to apply that to SF.

Slap a new coat of paint on SF4, charge $5 for stages, taunts, ultras, costumes, characters, and BP boosts and they are good to go.

For point 2, the SFIV series is most popular on the 360 compared to the PS3 and PC versions. Even in Japan where the 360 was a flop their players preferred the 360 version. The hardcore just go to where the best version is.

Sure, let's keep making facts up to justify the exact same behaviour from different companies. I own both consoles and that doesn't make me less disappointed.

So SF5 being exclusive is a sign things are changing for the better? Ok now.

People need to stop with this "associated with the PS brand" bullshit when it comes to SF. If its associated with anything its the arcade, then the home versions were on every console.

This may be the saltiest thread since DQ9. Everyone should already know you wait 4 or 5 re-releases before buying Street Fighter anyway. I got burned buying SF4 at launch. It won't happen again.

Jesus stop that noise. Keep that F2P out of SF.

Yeah right, like you personally know me. But keep acting like you do.

You know why I've been bashing MS since E3 2010? Because of the shit that they do (& still do, as a matter of fact). And the reason why you & the rest have been "calling me out several times" is because you can't handle the truth everytime someone like myself speaks out facts about your beloved company (& I've been one of those who were against Sony back in 2005-2008 with the way that they've handled both PSP & PS3).

Capcom are the masters of 4th Factioning (Glory Hunters to you Non-Planetsiders) then, only going to those who will give them the glory.

I wonder if this would happen (or cost Sony more probably) if Xbox managed to start off a bit better.

Maybe if Capcom sold Mega-Man to Nintendo, they'd get some money...just a thought.

360's ease of development definitely made it the choice for all character action and fighting games. Can't say they have that advantage this gen.
