Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Mode - Spoiler Thread

So what did you guys think?

I actually really liked it, probably my favorite fighting game story mode. It reminded me a lot of the first animated Street Fighter movie, which is good enough.

The story has some problems trying to explain what's going on, but there's so many callbacks and cool moments that make it super fun.

And I guess Abel and Decapre are good bets for Season 2?

no wonder akuma wont fuck with ryu in sf3, dude is a wizard and finally learned disintegrate

akuma afraid of gettin blasted by a real top tier wizard now

Re-post from SFV Community Thread:

Just finished the story mode without skipping anything... Its about 3 hours. Nothing like the MK9 story and its on par from what I remember watching for MKX'story.... I was streaming it as well.

Its ok, there are ton of stages they could use and give for free. They are going to paid aren't they, knowing Capcom. Also the dolls were ok, but a bit redundant in terms of the number of fights.

Ending does have
Gill
. Also, unless Capcom decide to
retcon SF3 with a sequel DLC stories. I don't expect to see anything new. Unless they do Alpha story, SF2 story and SFIV story...

Anyway, I would it give it 7/10 and that is being generous.

Also it took me it took me less than 3 hours (2 hours and 45 minutes or so). I timed it by streaming it online on twitch.

Gill is in the ending of the story mode

Also, I wonder if we will fight
Shin Bison
with the extra difficulty mode.

The story mode felt like the Saturday Morning Street Fighter cartoon/anime that was on USA Chanel back in the 90s. It was cheesy by taking itself too seriously. lol

Gill being voiced by Liam O'Brien is crazy, I wasn't expecting that.

As stories go it was pretty bad. That type of corny bad where it starts to actually be funny. In the end it does what it was meant to do, tie up the Shadaloo loose ends and introduce the Illuminati. So mission accomplished.

I thought Juri was lame as fuck in SFIV. After watching her on story mode of SFV I now think she's awesome. Crazy and an asshole, but a cool asshole. Kinda like K' in KOF is a cool asshole. Good job, Capcpom.

I like that my girl Karin got a lot of focus. Cammy was a Yamcha-tier jobber the whole time, Ryu became Ansatsuken Jesus at the end which was amazing and holy shit at the 3S references. Seeing Gill in the end and Helen being Korin was pretty hype.

Again, it made me excited to even be a part of fighting games in general after all this time. (Despite some questionable writing.)

Also, it was cool to see Rashid at the forefront.

It's the best fighting game story I have played. Not perfect, but way better than I was expecting. Ryu is a wizard now for sure lol.

Azam, Decapre, Abel are likely for season 2 it seems.

SFV story mode made me laugh several times. MKX felt like amateur cinematography.

Idk how that works as a proper comparison but whatever.

SFV just glanced over too much shit at one time. MKX had this problem too but it was easier to hide.

People probably just gravitate towards SF more so in their minds its better for some odd reason.

MK9's is better than both though.

I want to try it now but i cant figure out where to dl it. Its not on the in game store, and i cant find it on the ps store either. Anyone care to spoil me on that?

On steam if you look on your page where you launch sfv from you check a box. It should start downloading. For PSN go to the website and look it up through there. I believe there are some links to it in a thread about pre loading the story mode.

Oh i see. Thanks.

Does Ryu have to save the day again ? Srsly that scene with Charlie dying was dumb as hell.

All that build up for nothing ? He could have at least turned Bison into Shin Bison or something and they could have used that Bison alt.

Story had good build up till about half way , then the endless Doll fights became annoying.

Mixed feelings but I enjoyed it. I feel like we didn't really learn anything important or see any of these characters bond (seriously, almost no interaction between Guile and Nash?) but it did what it was trying to do and clearly they put some work into it, I definitely didn't expect Capcom to make so many story-specific characters and stages. Also kind of bummed Alex is literally the only character who gets sidelined like that.

Still entertaining throughout. I hope we see another one when the roster is bigger and I hope this kind of 3-4 hour story mode becomes Capcom's standard moving forward with fighting games.

I liked it well enough, I thought the ending part was very weak.

Charlie's sacrifice didn't seem to mean much

Ryu beat Bison...because reasons

No shin Bison, or any really difficult boss, it's just Bison with V-Trigger at the start of the round.

Epilogue was cute and very bro fisty, but I think it would have been cooler if Ryu turned Evil and revealed that's how he "conquered" the hadou to a freaked out Ken heh.

Has anyone played through Extra? Is it any different or just higher difficulty? Is there anything beyond Extra?

I really like that Rashid got the main character treatment.

He is the main character of SFV.

Like Abel was gonna be for 4 and Alex was gonna be for 3.

Well I'm not sure it's a fair comparison.

GGXrd only need to focus on story telling (and they improved it a lot in Revelator), while MKX and SFV have to make sure gameplay is integrated frequently.

I do think GG has the superior "story" but I don't consider it a typical story mode, I consider it an anime OAV.

I still think Capcom did a much better job than I expected them to. I expected them to go the lazy route and they didn't, added tons of npcs and unique locations.

I actually think SF5's story mode beats out MK9 and MKX for me, because it didn't feel there was as much idiot ball passing around like in the MK games. Spoilers for MK games

I rolled my eyes at Sindel killing all the good guys within 30 seconds, just to dwindle down the number and makes something happen. Raiden being the persistent local man who ruins everything in MK9 was a bummer since I always thought he was one of the cooler characters for looking like the 3 storms from Big Trouble Little China.

In MKX it gave me the feeling that most characters were jobbers just because of how the story is structured. You know who is going to get bodied since each chapter is separated by character, so you know that everyone else has the idiot ball since you aren't currently playing as them. SF5 actually made us play matches where the bad guys beat the good guys and switched around characters each match. Everyone at least had a moment to shine, which sadly the likes of Reptile, Kano, and Baraka would never have in their lifetime. I also didn't like the random powerup the Cage family got, that was kind of out of nowhere. I know I can poke fun of Ryu becoming Karate Jesus but it did feel like a progression since he finally got over Satsui No Hadou BS.

All games are cheesey as hell though, it's just that MK makes me go WTF more.

Yep, I pretty much agree. MKX story lost my attention and put me to sleep...no, seriously...it actually put me to sleep.

New characters candidates for S2 :

Azam
Oro
Sakura
Viper
Decapre ?
Ed ?

Old cast plus one brand new, could be cool. Also, more SF3 characters are always good. Also, I love Viper's design, one of my favorite in the entire SF history so yes yes

If SIGN's story mode is an anime OVA, it's a really fucking long and tedious OVA where 90% of the dialogue is bland exposition about shit nobody cares about and the other 10% is the most generic anime ever.

Or it's just the viewer watching something else while hammering the X button with the volume muted.

Glad to hear Revelator's story mode is better at least.

If you don't like anime stories, that's your own view. In any case, Revelator's story is far superior in terms of quality than SIGN's is.

Excuse me did you forget Peter?

The dolls are basically an efficient use of resources for Capcom: copy/paste Cammy's moveset, then give each of them some gimmick moves.

Santamu is annoying as fuck on Extra lol.

Only thing I was kind of disappointed about was that Abel never got a real match. Also, it would've been cool as fuck to get a Cammy + Decapre Dramatic Battle, but oh well.

If you played it while the servers were down, you don't get any retroactive, you'll to beat it again on normal.

I replayed one stage of story mode, then I started doing Trials/Prologue as Ibuki and Balrog, and in the middle of that it gave me my 30000 FM from Story mode.

Excuse me did you forget Peter?

Peter the CapCop for wave 2 plz.

I watch anime. I don't like boring and shitty anime stories, which Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN certainly feels like. And it's not like I have high standards.

I think i am the only one on this planet that general story mode isnt unlocked for him considering some people alreqmady finished it :( what the hell man ? Lol

Anyone else find it funny that Necalli didn't mean shit for the story?

He was basically an Akuma stand-in for Ryu and nothing else.

did yall notice that decapre has like, a lot of unique moves

as in 'her target combo into airthrow combo, a unique throw/airthrow anim, all her specials except air spiral arrow from sf4'

she even has weird crush counter properties and shit like teleport ground pound->airthrow combo

juni has some weird unique stuff too like the slide from cammy ball and karin's overhead kick but 99% of the time she just does her kick that goes into the hitgrab on EX for a million damage

I guess the question is...why the fuck not Akuma? Did Capcom sell Akuma's rights to Tekken ala Marvel selling Spider-Man and crew?

I thought Necalli would eat Ryu's evil spirit and become Gill, but I guess that would've been too cool. Necalli's just a jobber.

I don't get why Ibuki or Mika are in this, honestly. They do jack and shit. Just utterly pointless. I guess Alex is there to setup SF3, but beyond that, he's pointless as well. Also, there's no real ending here for Vega, Juri or Cammy + Dolls. It feels like something was cut. Especially when you go back and remember Cammy talking about she doesn't know shit about family yet trying to save the Dolls. It just doesn't go anywhere.

I liked it. Not amazing stuff I feel it could've been, but I enjoyed it. There were little nuances in the animations and cinematography that made characters way more likeable despite the dry anime-dub-like writing. Rashido was a cool main character, I wanted more Juri, and I'm glad we finally SF3 Ryu. The dolls overstayed their welcome though.
